I would like to know where Lou Dobbs got his figures. The 2000 census indicated the that population of the US was 281,421,906 people. The population of California in the 2000 census was 33,871,648. We know that not all 33.8 million residents of California own homes. Most illegal aliens can't even afford a home, even if it was mortgaged at sub-prime rates to start. If they can, there's no way that of those 33.8 million, that 10 million of them are illegals with homes in default.

Can you please provide a link to the article in which you found your numbers?

Are you saying they are all in default, and in default by illegal aliens? While I'll admit that our leadership is full of incompetency, arrogance, and crime, I don't believe the people are simply fools, rather, the people are asleep. That said, this nation is waking up at a rapid rate.

I have been unable to do so, even searching biased blogs and websites. I found a lot of spouting off about immigration, but nothing as specific as you have brought up here.

First, didn't occur to you that California's population is about 30 million; thus, close to half of the population would have to be in foreclosures?

Second, you need to understand Dobbs is the LAST person you should rely on for data about illegal immigrants. He is notoriously unreliable with his statistics, as he picks numbers of out the air to support his anti-illegal agenda.

Perhaps MOE can calculate how long it would take for California to reach 10 million foreclosures, but it certainly is not happening now, despite your friend Dobbs' comments, and certainly not by 10 million illegal aliens.

I'd have to go back and check Census records for several decades to get a good estimate, but if we start with Wingnut's 33,871,648 for the population of California and start speculating. Let's add a very generous 500,000 for homeless and illegals not counted by the Census (I could be wrong, but I think this is more than the national estimate from the last Census. I just don't care to look it up exactly, and 500,000 seems plenty large for our purposes). Then, since the Census is 8 years old, let's add another 3 million to adjust for population growth in the state. That would bring our total 2008 population to 37,371,648. Now let us assume that the average household houses 2.5 people (average of half a child per couple). This guess is probably low, which will give us more households than actually exist.

The number of households will be 37,371,648 / 2.5 = 14,948,659. If illegal aliens hold 10,000,000 of these mortgages, then 67% of the homes in California are in default to illegal aliens. I can't see how that's possible. And there are so many flaws in the assumptions of this exercise that the suggestion of 10,000,000 homes in default to illegal aliens is absolutely preposterous.

That being said, Dobbs was likely trying to shed a little light on an existing problem. Sensationalism tends to bring the attention. So in answer to the original question, if we have spent this much time talking about this bogus number, then yes, we are very dumb.
