a-train Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 The only power government has in "creating" jobs is to spread work, they cannot create it. It will merely come at the cost of lowered real wages for everyone and a stifling of overall economic productivity. -a-train Quote
john doe Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 What's the total number of unemployed people in the US? Does anybody have that number lying around? Quote
Moksha Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Thought these were very salient points from Palerider's article:Obama increased the number of jobs his jobs program would create, taking the number to as many as 4.1 million jobs saved or created — a benchmark his critics charge cannot be measured. During the campaign, he promised only 1 million new jobs. The analysis came out one day after news the unemployment rate had jumped to 7.2 percent, the highest in 16 years. The nation lost 524,000 jobs in December, bringing the total job loss for last year to 2.6 million, the largest since World War II. If Congress fails to enact a big economic recovery plan, Obama's advisers estimate that an additional 3 million to 4 million jobs will disappear before the recession ends. Obama's team also noted that with or without the plan, the jobless rate by 2014 would be the same. . Quote
Palerider Posted January 11, 2009 Author Report Posted January 11, 2009 The stimulus package he wants...as we all know it still needs to be approved.... Quote
Guest Godless Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 The irony here is that a lot of hard-working comedians are going to be out of work after the 20th. Quote
Guest Godless Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 Bush has been giving them solid gold for 8 straight years. Heck, the job was almost done for them! The only thing Obama's brought to the table so far is black jokes, and those get old after a while. Quote
Hemidakota Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 I guess we can include a few prophets since Adam that have the same disability as Bush does. I don't bother to listen to someone else lack of esteem concerning those around him in making it a joke. Noting the amount of jobs lost, our own Congress and Senate are to blame. Seeing Obama is where there when we lost jobs, we can also point fingers at him. Quote

Seeing Obama is where there when we lost jobs, we can also point fingers at him.Yes, Hemi. We can blame Obama for something that happened before he was in power. We shouldn't blame the economy, or poor investment strategies, or a scared populace not buying like they used to. We can't blame a war that has more than the GDP of most countries, or an economic system that equates to a zero sum game. The economy is not Obama's fault. It's now his responsibility, but it isn't his fault. Quote
Hemidakota Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 Think....Obama was a Senator who is at fault. Yes....he was a senator and not the usual governors. I don't blame any governor who becomes president but being a congressmen or senator, sorry, they are involve whether the media or others may like it or not. Quote
FunkyTown Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 You do raise a good point. As one of many at fault, I would suggest he shares blame with investors, banks and the American public at large as well. Quote
rameumptom Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 Let's look at the figures:Jobs in Infrastructure: 450,000Jobs in Energy: 250,000Jobs in Transportation: 150,000Jobs at Walmart: 1,525,000Jobs at McDonalds: 700,000Total: 3,075,000So, he will bring about the 3+ million jobs. The thing he isn't mentioning is that 2/3 of those jobs will be in China and India!!!! Quote
Hemidakota Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 A quote today from Feldstein: Fix Housing or Stimulus is Worthless Former Reagan adviser Martin Feldstein says that the current economic downturn is the worst since the end of World War II and that additional government deficit spending may be needed to stimulate a recovery. TheyCallMeMom Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 Obama has accomplished few things as senator except to show he is a bad judge of character As far a Bush goes.. I still cant decide if he is a genius mastermind or an incompetent drone.. seems most of the left claim his as both as far as creating jobs.. increasing taxes will NOT create jobs. Quote
