Cydonia Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Hi, I'm currently a non-Mormon living in Indiana who is reading the Book of Mormon and has become interested in possibly joining the Church with my family. Came on the boards to learn more about Mormonism and meet Church members. Quote

pam Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Did you make it to Church services yesterday? If you did..how did it go? Quote
Cydonia Posted February 10, 2009 Author Report Posted February 10, 2009 Did you make it to Church services yesterday? If you did..how did it go?Actually, the plan has been to go next Sunday (2/14) for the first time. My grandfather died a couple of weeks ago, and this Sunday (2/7) was the only time the entire family could all get together to go through his house and decide who wants/gets various heirlooms.I miss my Grandfather quite a lot. He was a good guy.I'm fully planning to go next Sunday, though. Hopefully we'll have a good experience. Still haven't seen the Missionaries yet, but we'll go in "blind" so to speak and put our trust in God.I'll let you know how it goes. Quote
pam Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Have you not received a response yet to your contact info? I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Quote

I hope your journey of searching for truths will be found shortly. We welcome your contribution and insight from not being a non-member in the church. Quote
Cydonia Posted February 10, 2009 Author Report Posted February 10, 2009 Have you not received a response yet to your contact info? Not yet. I'm thinking our contact info must have been lost somehow. That Youtube video you sent me put me much more at ease about going in fresh without having spoken to someone first, as I now know somewhat what to expect.Total sidenote, but it's nice to know that when we go to Church this Sunday, we won't be getting the usual new-church greeting of "Oh, hello. Are you new? You know we have childcare available" when we bring our 1 and 3 year old into the service with us. Quote
pam Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Is there anything I can do to help put the missionaries in touch with you? I don't want to see it falling through the cracks. Please let me know of any way I can assist you. Quote
Cydonia Posted March 12, 2009 Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 So my wife and I have been meeting with the missionaries for a few weeks now and attending Sacrament and Sunday School. It's going well! I'm curious, though. A lot of things say/suggest that we'll be meeting with the Missionaries for a while and then eventually, we'll be baptized if we so choose. When's that eventually usually? Do the Missionaries come over for a few weeks, months, years? Quote
Dravin Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 At lot of it has to do with how often they they teach you, how much they teach you each visit and how well you keep commitments, and of course how bold the missionaries are. Some people are baptized within a few weeks others take years. In my experience its several weeks to a couple months rather than years though. If you are interested you can look at the Missionary Guide the missionaries use, you can look at it here, Chapter 3 Lessons 1-4 are what you need to know and accept before you can be baptized. Maya Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Hi and well come! Actually I was never asked if I wnat ed to get babtized I had to tell them that hey guys dont you want to get me babtized! That was 8 months after I met the misionaries at first. Actually I was ready in a mont.... but I did say I want to wait for my DH. I hope you enjoy the church and this site! I think a good thig is always remember how you got the feeling that you know it is true and watn to get babtized and then when you sometimes may doubt something... go back to that and think is that thing worth killing my faith for. All questions have an answer. Quote
Cydonia Posted April 24, 2009 Author Report Posted April 24, 2009 Hey All, My wife and I have announced our intention to get baptised, and the Missionaries are helping us set it up. Thanks for helping answer my questions along the way. Quote
Jamie123 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 · Hidden Hidden Salutations back :) (Isn't that what Charlotte said to Wilbur?) Good to meet you :) I'm not LDS either, though I did have some of the missionary lessons a few years back. P.S. I read a book about the Cydonia "thing" a few years back. Sounds crazy, but who knows?
lestertheemt Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 Hi and welcome to the site!!! How is everything going??? Quote
Dravin Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 You get bonus points for the use of salutations. I used to use that as my standard greeting for a time but people kept on looking at me weird. Now, about those points... its like Whose line is it anyway?, they don't matter. Quote
