Palerider Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 Today after church we had Pot Luck Dinner. I noticed on the table there it was....you guessed it...GREEN JELLO....someone made green jello and cottage cheese.....I busted up laughing and started thinking about all the jokes and comments made here about green jello.....:D:D Quote
siouxz72 Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 yay! I was trying to explain green jello and how it relates to Mormonism to my friend Dawn and yeah..she just doesn't get it! Quote
Palerider Posted March 2, 2009 Author Report Posted March 2, 2009 Yes I did....the person who made it was standing nearby boasting about what they made....so to be nice...I took some....:D Quote
Palerider Posted March 2, 2009 Author Report Posted March 2, 2009 I would rather have green jello.....without veggies or cottage cheese in it...:) Quote
Wingnut Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 I read this and thought "So?" But then I remembered that you live in St. Louis, Pale. I guess it would seem more out of place there. Quote

Its not that its out of place....I thought it was funny because of the jokes we make here about it..... Quote
pam Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 I think it's funny because we do joke about it here all the time. I think I would laugh too if I saw it at a potluck and I live in Utah. Quote
Palerider Posted March 2, 2009 Author Report Posted March 2, 2009 Probally the reason its around here is from all the Mormons that left Utah for other areas....with all their treasured reciepes(sp) that Mom use to make or Grandma.....:D Quote
Guest missingsomething Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 ewe cottage cheese INSIDE it? nasty. I refuse to eat green jello Quote

lusciouschaos Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 Now there is a great idea for a Ward Activity. Have a Jello Making/Eating Contest. Quote
Guest Godless Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 Its not that its out of place....I thought it was funny because of the jokes we make here about it.....I grew up as an active member in Maryland, and jello of any sort would've been very out of place at a ward potluck. People out there prefer brownies and/or homemade cookies. Quote

We get those kinds of things to here...but, as I mentioned earlier it cracked me up when I seen this green jello sitting there with what seemed to be with cottage cheese mixed with it.... Quote

You have to admit though, it's pretty creative. Quote

You have to admit though, it's pretty creative. yes....very creative......later this month we have a chilli supper planned with the other Ward that meets in our building.....I wil be looking for Green Jello to make another appearance.... Gwen Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 don't you hate that? lol every so often i see something that reminds me of something that took place here and i laugh out loud.... then ppl look at me funny, or worse ask what is so funny and there is really no way to explain it without sounding crazy so i just say nothing..... which also sounds crazy so it's kinda a no win.... oh well. Moksha Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 I would rather have green jello.....without veggies or cottage cheese in it...:) The veggies and cottage cheese are merely added to express the chef's creativity. It is the Jell-O itself that nourishes and strengthens our bodies. As far as siouxz72 explaining significance that Jell-O holds to Mormons, simply explain that Jell-O is the Mormon Gefilte fish, and as such, is a substance that has deep roots in the Mormon psyche.Hope that helps...
