Dravin Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 Since we all seem to be discussing our manual shifting abilities. There is a real good chance my first car is gonna be a stick, luckily I know somebody willing to teach me. :) Quote
Mahone Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 Hey I know how to drive a stick. Can I help you with that coat? You could buy me a new one if you really wish - the only "casual" coat I have is becoming a little worn Quote
Seanette Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 My then-fiance (now DH) taught me stick shift when I bought a car that had one (otherwise good car, in price range, and he was confident I could learn stick, which I did). I did already have a license, of course, so just had to learn coordinating clutch and gearshift. Yes, even after driving lessons, we still got married. Quote
Dr T Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 I just read the OP. I want to let u know that my past interactions with Saturn dealers were great and they were not pushy, or shmoozing or jerks in any way. :) Quote

I want to let u know that my past interactions with Saturn dealers were great and they were not pushy, or shmoozing or jerks in any way. :)It obviously didn't work because they never made a penny. We just bought a car this past weekend. I researched the different cars that my wife said that she would like, we're replacing her car, so her choice. I let her know which ones I thought would be best. We went out and test drove a couple. We drove a 2007 Honda Fit on Saturday. The "salesman" wasn't pushy at all. We drove it, liked it, and made an offer. They pretty much gave us what we wanted on our old car, and walked out with a deal. Now the financing part. My wife applied for credit through the car lot, and was approved within minutes. Now we're just waiting for a better interest rate. Quote

An automatic 4-wheel drive?????? A sure sign of either the coming apocalypse or a bunch of trucks that will never ever feel the earth under their tires Quote

I have an automatic 4x4 truck, what's your beef with those???Personally, commuting in a standard is a pain in the.......well you know. Especially in a truck. However when I replace the truck, I will get a standard car. They are way more fun to drive!!!! Quote
Hemidakota Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Hey most Americans can't drive anyway... real driving is driving with what you call a stick (as opposed to automatic) *i'll get me coat*I usually will state, here in Southern Cali, 2 out of 9 are excellent drivers. Three are good drivers but do violate road laws. Four should not be driving at all; no matter if they can pass a DMV test. Now this does includes CHP, Police Officers, and so forth. I have seen it all here, even a few CHP/Police Officers who need not be on the road at all. Quote
Hemidakota Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 I personally find it offensive that i can't find a light duty pickup with 4 wheel drive and a standard shiftIf I floor the gas pedal, it must go fast - vehicle automatic fallacy. Then we reach a speed where the car or truck cannot go any further - either out of breath or out of gearing. This is where I laugh... Quote

Canuck Mormon Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 I'm dying of curiosity, do you ever take it off-road?All the time. I've taken both automatics and manuals off road and found very little difference between the two. Quote
talisyn Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 All the time. I've taken both automatics and manuals off road and found very little difference between the two.I respect that. I hate seeing SUVs and trucks that have never ever been on a dirt road. I think a lot of Hummers fall into that category lol. Quote
Misshalfway Posted June 22, 2009 Author Report Posted June 22, 2009 How exactly does one park a hummer? Hmmm. Quote
talisyn Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 From what I see at Wal-Mart, very carefully. Quote

They are way more fun to drive!!!!trucks are meant to pull and work, with an automatic transmission, you lose horsepower in the hydraulic linkup in the torque converter, with a standard shift, you have a mechanical link, not a fluid link...its all about horspower to the wheels...
