EruditioSalvatus Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 While the practice is codified in the United States Code Collection (36 U.S.C. ยง 301) it is not a criminal law and exists mostly as ad referendum. Besides, Obama wasn't the only one "disobeying" the rules Quote
bytor2112 Posted September 24, 2009 Author Report Posted September 24, 2009 err...the post is really about the awful singing..seriously. Quote

jadams_4040 Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 it must be without a doubt a vast left wing conspiracy to get all americans to slowly but ever so surely begin to hate the american flag.:) Quote
MrsAri Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Was this episode worse than Rosanne grabbing her crotch? Quote
Maxel Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Anyone have a video of him saluting the flag since he's been in office? Anyone know the story behind why he's not saluting the flag? Can't listen to the singing, but I'm sure it's gosh-awful. Quote
Guest Godless Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Was this episode worse than Rosanne grabbing her crotch?Lol, I just saw her version last night on Best [Darn] Sports Show. And no, this wasn't quite that bad. But it was very close. Quote
Moksha Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Putting one's hand over their heart is not saluting. Soldiers raising their hands up is saluting. At least that is my idea that I am running up the forum flag pole to see if anybody salutes. Saying one must do a hand gesture to show their love of country is rather like insisting that prayers be offered in a kneeling position. Outside of anthem singing, many associate a hand over the heart with having a coronary. Quote

It's HORRIBLE. It's like traditional black gospel sung by someone who has no idea how to incorporate style, reverence, or even sing traditional black gospel. Edited September 24, 2009 by Maxel Quote
MrsAri Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Perhaps Obama is exempt because he's not really the president...or American. Quote
talisyn Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Perhaps Obama is exempt because he's not really the president...or American. Are Jehovas Witnesses Americans? Pretty sure they don't salute the flag. I didn't when I was in school, seemed too much like idolatry to my young American-born and bred impressionable mind Quote

beefche Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 I only made about 30 seconds into it before I had to stop the madness! Wow, that was just painful to listen to. I'm not an Obama hater, but it just seemed odd to me that anyone my age or older who doesn't automatically put their hand over their heart when that song is played. It's like Pavlov's dogs--I smell chocolate and my mouth waters; I hear that song and see the flag and my right hand goes on my chest. Although I don't do that when we sing it at Church--weird. Quote

MrsAri Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 If they had birth certificates would you believe them?Seeing is believing...do they have valid birth certificates and not just a COLB which you can obtain anywhere? Quote

Pledge of allegiance to the flag; manner of deliveryWow, that has nothing to do with the national anthem. Try this section instead. Ironically, the 'hand over the heart' salute is relatively new; before then children and adults saluted the flag by giving the 'flag salute' or 'Bellamy salute.' The flag salute was abandoned in 1942 because it so closely resembled the the Roman salute and Nazi salute that people were using photos of children giving the salute in propaganda campaigns. Quote

Guest Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 That was TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who was that singing??? I think the only thing worse than that singing was Roseanne's rendition in 1990 at the Padre's stadium. Okay, about the hand-to-the-heart thing. That's kinda odd. I do stand when the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance is said. I do not put my hand on my heart though, because it's saluting the flag (yes, it's a from of salute) and I'm not American. I cannot salute the American Flag for obvious reasons. I sing it though, because I just love that song. I stand up for it out of respect for this country. I stand up for the pledge as well but I can't say the pledge - same thing, I'm not American, so I cannot pledge my allegiance to the US. I have had to explain this several times to the kids in my sons' school. So, I know kids pay attention to that stuff. So, for Obama not to put his hand on his heart, it sends a message. I mean, okay, so he doesn't feel it necessary. But, what's the harm of doing it anyway even if you're just trying to portray an image? Isn't he big on image? It just seems wierd to me. Quote
NeuroTypical Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Was this episode worse than Rosanne grabbing her crotch? That was my original thought too, and the answer is no - Rosanne's attempt was worse. Quote
