I'm Regina. I'm a new convert. I was baptize on June 13th. My husband was raised in the church but as an adult he moved away from religion. We are exploring the church together. I have been given the calling as secretary in Young Women. I'm not liking it too much but I'm giving it a shot. I'm looking to meet people, and learn as much as I can. THanks

Welcome to the site. YW is the one organization (other than Priesthood) that I haven't worked in. I'm kind of jealous.

I am new too. I was given a calling but I turned it down. I didn't feel it was the right time for me. Did you know that your calling was right... that is, did you feel a prompting from the Spirit? I just didn't feel anything (except dread) when my bishop asked me! Any advice on a newbie accepting a calling?

Well, you can ask for time to pray about it. Most of the time, i just take it on faith. Because I have sustained the local leaders Ive made promises to do as they ask to build the Kingdom to the best of my ability. Personally, I would only hesitate if i had some sort of impression to not take a calling. I find it wise counsel I took from the following scripture:

26 For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward.

27 Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness;

28 For the power is in them, wherein they are agents unto themselves. And inasmuch as men do good they shall in nowise lose their reward.

29 But he that doeth not anything until he is commanded, and receiveth a commandment with doubtful heart, and keepeth it with slothfulness, the same is damned. (D&C 58:26-29)
