talisyn Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 No one's seriously entertaining the notion of giving Dubya a Nobel Peace Prize. He's deserving of a prize though. Do they have a Nobel prize for 'Creates the Most Change in the World in Less than a Decade'? Quote
Palerider Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 No one's seriously entertaining the notion of giving Dubya a Nobel Peace Prize. I am shocked they gave it to the current Pres.....I bet Clinton is jealous..... Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Talisyn, someone did a (poor) top-ten list about "top ten reasons Obama got the Nobel Prize" and one of them was because the Nobel committee didn't have an "un-prize" for Bush, so this was the next-best thing. Pale, Senator Hatch said more or less the same thing (more politely), citing Clinton's work for a charity whose name escapes me at the moment. Quote
pam Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Didn't Clinton do a charity with the first President Bush in assisting those affected by the tsunami? Quote
Palerider Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Didn't Clinton do a charity with the first President Bush in assisting those affected by the tsunami? yes Clinton and Daddy Bush have worked together for charity.... Quote
sixpacktr Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 No one's seriously entertaining the notion of giving Dubya a Nobel Peace Prize. Yeah, 'cause that would be just stupid. I mean, removing two brutal regimes and giving the people in those countries free and open elections so that they could decide their own fate....That doesn't hold a candle to bowing to Muslims and denigrating your own country.... Churchmouse Posted October 10, 2009 Author Report Posted October 10, 2009 (edited) Evidently I just didn't understand the criteria for the award. And here, all these years, I've wondered why Reagan didn't get one for ending the cold war and bringing down the "wall".:) If he had only stayed a Democrat:):) And isn't it ironic that the namesake of the "peace" prize, old Alfie, is the same guy that invented dynamite. Maybe when he saw all the destruction his invention caused, he opted for peace. Edited October 10, 2009 by Churchmouse Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Question to think about: Could/should Lincoln have gotten a Nobel Peace Prize, even though his election touched off the bloodiest war in American history? Not saying Bush was in Lincoln's realm of greatness; but it never hurts to re-think one's concept of "peace". Quote

sixpacktr Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 (edited) And was nominated after being in office for TWO weeks... No, there is no agenda here. But Obama himself stated it yesterday in his speech. He acknowledged that he hadn't done anything, but that this was given so that he COULD inact his plans as this would give them momentum... Ai yai yai... Yesterday, it was announced that Glenn Beck had won 2 Grammys because he was THINKING of MAYBE making some music albums. BTW, he also won Car of the Year from Motortrend magazine. A truly hilarious 3 hours yesterday on Beck's radio show. Kind of like it was 3-4 years ago... Edited October 10, 2009 by sixpacktr Quote
Moksha Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Rag on Obama all you want. Denigrate any award given (although if this was a Mormon who have won the Nobel Peace Prize, eventually a statue would be raised in their honor in Salt Lake). Politics in everything can blind us to that which is worthy of praise.. Quote

sixpacktr Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Nope, it would be even more cacaphonous from the left. I really don't care. The Nobel Peace Price has become a joke anyway, after Gore was selected for making us aware how terrible humans are for ruining this world. Where the he!! is the peace in that? People like Dr King, Mother Theresa, the Dalai Lama, etc., deserve something like this. But it was AFTER they'd done so much to promote peaceful resistance and love. Obama? Chicago style politics must be just FULL of love.... Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 (edited) Ya gotta love this, from the DNC:"The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists - the Taliban and Hamas this morning - in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize."Nice to know some people are having fun with the whole thing, though. :) Edited October 10, 2009 by Just_A_Guy Quote
pam Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 I'm a Republican so therefore I've thrown my hat in with the Taliban. Honestly, the whole idea of Obama getting the Nobel sickens me. Actually, what the Nobel prize has become sickens me. Quote
pam Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Actually I think of some of the doctors and dentists that go into 3rd world countries and provide medical treatment and dental treatment to people who can't afford it. I think of the doctors who fix young babies cleft palates, that volunteer their time and their money to do this. Those are the people I have respect for and deserve some kind of award. Quote
annewandering Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Obama is doing something that is quite amazing. He is talking to people, gasp, even our enemies. Now it seems to me that if you dont talk to enemies they will remain enemies. This shouldnt be a big deal. Certainly not Noble prize winning BUT no one else was doing it. Lots of posturing but we cant look weak by being willing to talk, note not concede, so it took a huge amount of strength for him to initiate talking. For this alone he deserves not only the Noble prize but support and praise. Quote
john doe Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 You act as though no one else has talked to their enemies. And as for what you think he may have accomplished, remember he was nominated for this when his presidency was mere weeks old. Quote
annewandering Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 He as talked to people from the first weeks of his presidency. Considering the storm that blew up when he even hinted he would talk to anyone who would talk I am pretty much led to believe it was going against the standard, john doe. Of course there does seem to be an automatic storm anytime his name is mentioned. Truth is that we do not talk to any one much anymore who is not our ally. Or at least didnt. Quote
pam Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Talk is cheap. My opinion mind you, but I would have rather seen him win it if and when his talk produced some results. Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 He as talked to people from the first weeks of his presidency.Name them. Quote
Palerider Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 And all those people he has talked with....they are sure listening Quote
Guest Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Okay guys... If you think Obama is worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize for "talking" or politic posturing then tell me, why do you think he is better than Sarkozy (he was nominated too if you didn't know)? Quote

Denigrate any award given (although if this was a Mormon who have won the Nobel Peace Prize, eventually a statue would be raised in their honor in Salt Lake). Politics in everything can blind us to that which is worthy of praise..Moksha, I would be happy had Pres Obama actually accomplished something for the Peace prize. Perhaps they should have given him the prize for literature, because he did write a book?I don't think people have been ragging on Obama. Instead, we're all shocked that the Nobel Prize committee would give an award for absolutely nothing but a prestige thing. It has warped the meaning of the Peace Prize.Had we waited another year or two and allowed Obama to end war in Iraq/Afghanistan, or broker peace with Iran, or between Israel and Palestine, THEN he would definitely have earned the award, and people worldwide would not be snickering about it. This award demeans Pres Obama. He should have gracefully turned it down, and asked them to renominate him AFTER he had accomplished something. Quote
Maya Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 But on an other hand... I hope this binds him to be even more for peace. But what happens then? He is already called the prince of peace... Quote
