Elphaba Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 I was surprised that ryanh didn't know how to pronounce Elphaba. One person in the world who's never seen and/or read "Wicked"! In fact, I have over 20,000 hits on my profile, and I finally figured out one day that it wasn't because I was so popular on the board, but that my name is "Elphaba." Anyone who does a search for "Wicked," and especially for "Elphaba," may very likely end up in my profile. On the other hand, I really am that popular! Elph Quote

Mahone Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Curious..if you ever met John Doe in person...would you always have this picture of a corpse in the morgue that they couldn't ID?It's not a phrase that is in common usage over here, so probably not. However when someone does mention "john doe" I usually assume it to be a live person whos identity is yet to be confirmed, as opposed to a dead person. Quote
Canuck Mormon Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Maybe people visiting her profile page is their way of "goosing" her???? Quote
Elphaba Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 (edited) haha we won't mention there was a glitch in the system at one time either. lol Admit it, I'll always be your favorite A.(You are BAD!!!!)ElphLater: :animatedlol: I just realized you were talking about something else. I am dyin' here!!!!!Re: The glitch. I realize the first 10,000 or so hits were courtesy of lds.net. But honestly, I get about a hundred hits every couple of weeks. I know I'm purty, but I ain't THAT purty. Elph Edited January 2, 2010 by Elphaba Quote
pam Posted January 2, 2010 Author Report Posted January 2, 2010 Absolutely Elphie..I love ya and you will always be my favorite "A". That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it. Quote
Elphaba Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Make that two.You have NEVER heard of "Wicked," by far the best musical theater ever conceived on the planet? Okay, Elphaba (from L. (El) F. (pha) B. (ba), the initials of L. Frank Baum, author of the Wizard of Oz., is the real name of the Wicked Witch of the West. When she was young, she was very misunderstood, and despite her constant efforts to do good, it always seemed to go bad. That Glinda was a real floozy too."Wicked" is a book, and a musical, about Glinda and Elphaba's friendship, and about what finally parted them. It ends with Dorothy killing her sister. However, "Wicked" gives you an entirely different point of view. This is Glinda and Elphaba singing " ." I'm the green one. If it makes you feel any better IIRC Honor asked me how to pronounce my handle.I assumed it's pronounceed "Drayvin?"You're right by the way--except for the people I know, I don't remember anyone's real names. But except for you, I can't think of anyone down that end of the table who didn't go by his/her real name.Elph Quote

Dravin Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 You have NEVER heard of "Wicked," by far the best musical theater ever conceived on the planet? Oh I've heard of it (by now), I just haven't read the book or listened/watched the play. I have no problem with musicals either.I assumed it's pronounceed "Drayvin?"You're right by the way--except for the people I know, I don't remember anyone's real names. But except for you, I can't think of anyone down that end of the table who didn't go by his/her real name.ElphWell, it's more Dray-ven than Dray-vin (depending on how you like to do your phonetic spellings, it rhymes with raven). I think quite a few people do Drah-vin, which I suppose I can understand, but considering it's a combination of my real name and raven it isn't how it works in my mind. Quote
Maya Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Isnt it like Darvin... but r and a changes places Quote
Iggy Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 It doesn't bother me if people call me by beefche or even beef. But don't you dare call me a heifer. How bout Guernsey?? Or Holstein or Jersery Quote

Iggy Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Don't forget Angus! :) Isn't Angus a he and our beefche is a she!!! Randon question: If a viral male bovine is a bull and his brother who has had his "Christmas Trimmings" is a Steer, and a female bovine who is pert and ready to reproduce is a Cow, then what is a female bovine who has had her "Christmas Trimmings" called???? Quote
miztrniceguy Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 I would never call a cow late to dinner. Quote
Dravin Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Isn't Angus a he and our beefche is a she!!! A breed consisting of all bulls and no cows would be quite the accomplishment. Quote
