Mahone Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 I came home from work today to discover my bathroom floor was covered in water, suggesting a leak somewhere (obviously). As this is a rented property, responsibility for these kind of issues lies with the landlord. However by the time I had gotten home, their office was closed. I spent a couple of hours trying to locate the source of the water, eventually dismantling half the bathroom to find it, getting myself (naively) soaked in the water all over the floor in the process. When I found it, it didn't take long to realise it's actually the flat next doors waste pipe. Every time they flush the chain, my bathroom floods with their waste water (and there is me dripping in it). Guess it'll be a day off work tomorrow to sort this out Quote
pam Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 They don't provide an after hours emergency number? Quote
beefche Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 Oh, that stinks, Mahone. What a crappy situation. Quote
Mahone Posted January 8, 2010 Author Report Posted January 8, 2010 No need at the moment, I've set up a temporary measure to prevent it from flooding all over the place until I can get a more permanent solution. In hind sight, this has probably been going on for a while, it's just become a lot worse today. Previously it was only minute amounts of water, which I assumed to be condensation. It's mainly the knowledge that it was next doors waste water that bothers me Quote
miztrniceguy Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 all that water going to waste....tsk tsk Quote
Mahone Posted January 8, 2010 Author Report Posted January 8, 2010 Beefche, who needs friends when they have a cow like you, eh? Quote
Melissa569 Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 (edited) Oh, I feel ya, hun! Last year, I was sitting on my computer in a chat room. suddenly, I hear this trickling water noise, like when the faucet of your shower is running a little... I thought, "How could it just suddenly start dribbling?" Then it got louder, like the shower was on full blast! I ran into the bathroom, and gasped-- there was hot water GUSHING down from both the heater vent AND the regular fan/vent, on the ceiling of my bathroom! My neighbor (an elderly woman) was upstairs taking a shower, and somehow, her shower water was pouring down into my bathroom. The floor was flooded with a couple of inches of water, it was quickly soaking out into the carpet in the hallway. I tried putting down blankets, but they were drenched in just a few seconds. I was scared, I thought maybe my neighbor had fallen and hit her head, and her bath tub was overflowing or something... The apartment office was closed, I couldn't get hold of maintanance (niether their regular number, nor the "emergency" number-- go figure!). And the water continued to pour down! All I could think of, was to call 911 (after all, I did think she could have been hurt). The police came out and knocked on her door for a while... Took her about 10 minutes to finally hear us, and answer. She was fine, just taking a shower. But the next day, the maintanance staff discovered that a rat-- yes, a RAT-- had chewed a hole in her pipes, and it was leaking through my ceiling. They showed the pipe to me. I live in the city now, but I was a country-raised girl, so I knew the telltale chew marks around the edges of the big hole. They replaced everything, and cleaned my carpet to prevent mold. But what a ride... Edited January 8, 2010 by Melissa569 Quote
Nelly Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 I think it's time for you to get a new place. Your place doesn't sound reliable Quote

talisyn Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 Shouldn't it be 'Aarrrrgh Matey'? I'd think it would be a health hazard, that kind of water on your floor. Your landlord really needs to fix the problem before you get a horrible bacterial infection and sue the pant off of him/her. Quote
pam Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 Well hopefully Talisyn after 3 months the problem has been fixed. :) Quote
Iggy Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Well hopefully Talisyn after 3 months the problem has been fixed. :) You never know, Pam - he could have a really rotten landlord who drags his feet in getting repairs done. Quote
pam Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 True Iggy, But Mahone seems like a pretty smart one. I don't think he'd put up with wet feet in his bathroom for 3 months..unless it's while showering. Quote
Mahone Posted April 7, 2010 Author Report Posted April 7, 2010 unless it's while showeringYou mean showering is normal? Now I know what I've been doing wrong all these years! Quote

Iggy Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 You mean showering is normal? Now I know what I've been doing wrong all these years! Yes Mahone dear, you need to take your shoes off when you bathe and shower- unless you wear Crocs, then you can wear them in the shower- like I do -- protects my diabetic feet from athletes foot fungus and also from any spiders and/or scorpions that might be playing on the bathmat!!! I was in the market for some new shoes last weekend actually. I came across these in town, and had to do a double take, and took this snapshot of them. Who doesn't think these are possibly the most foul shoes ever? Quote
Iggy Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 Yes the orange is a turnoff, but those don't look like the real thing, more like a knockoff. Croc's are not a cute shoe. It is ugly and chunky. BUT when you have diabetic feet, get ingrown toenails that get infected in a heart beat because you are wearing shoes that don't have an open toe box (like Croc's)- and end up having to go to the Podiatrist to have said toenail removed (believe me, I have a very high thresh hold for pain, and getting the two to three injections into the toe to deaden it enough for the Doc to rip out the toenail hurts so bad I wear an adult diaper because I can NOT control my bladder from the intensity of the pain!! My toenails grow back in approximately one year. I wear my croc's ALL the time. I also only have a Diabetic Certified Pedicurist(is that a word???) work on my feet. They know how to cut the nails properly, remove the rough skin on the feet and they also DO NOT use coarse sugar and sea salt to exfoliate the skin- get that stuff in an open crack and it is serious infection time. When I went to the Hospital to have my gall bladder removed I noticed that everyone in the prep and recovery rooms were wearing white Crocs. Women's Footwear From Crocs | Crocs, Inc. Quote
Bini Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Iggy, you can find cute Crocs, believe it or not. I got summer and winter Crocs and they're adorable! I love them. When I'm not wearing heels, I seem to find myself sporting Croccers :] Quote
Iggy Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Iggy, you can find cute Crocs, believe it or not. I got summer and winter Crocs and they're adorable! I love them. When I'm not wearing heels, I seem to find myself sporting Croccers :]But they are mostly closed toe, and/or with a smaller toe box. I get ingrown toenails so easily. Even wearing nylon stockings/socks does it to me. I have to wear cotton socks if I wear any at all. I know they have some really nice looking shoes, it is just that I do have to have a more open toe box. Besides I really have fun wearing the clunky, ugly Crocs. I never was vain about my shoes. Used to wear black sneakers with multi colored shoe laces in the winter and white sneakers with bright neon laces in the summer (when I worked in the hardware store.) The kids just loved it! Quote
