mikbone Posted March 8, 2010 Author Report Posted March 8, 2010 Atlas Montgomery Mikbone III First, you can watch people marvel at the name, and then marvel when you explain that there is no I or II.I like Atlas, thanks. We just read Ayn Rand's Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged. I love her main characters, especially their integrity, work ethics, and refusal to compromise. But Francisco, Hank, and Howard aren't workin for us. John Galt might work though... Quote
Moksha Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 Happily, we are Texan, so we don't need exclusively Utah names. Have you considered Waco then? Quote
miztrniceguy Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 Fountainhead is next in line for me to read, after I finish reading draft of Moriah's third book. Atlas Shrugged was 2 books ago, followed by Stephen King's The Dome. Quote
miztrniceguy Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 I really don't understand why a person would even ask someone to provide a list of names for their child. We considered it a very personal decision for both of ours. No offense intended. Quote
mikbone Posted March 8, 2010 Author Report Posted March 8, 2010 Don't tell anyone, but we may not use these names... (Though I was happy to see some of my favorites (the middle names of our children) on these lists. Thank you for your naming help during this "selfish and immature" time ;-). I'll just leave the entertainment value of combining the first with the last, "Waco" indeed! The wife of the thread creator Quote
Bini Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 I can't stand those oh-so-special and unique baby names either! In my opinion names like that permanently brand your child as being a Mormon from Utah. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, just that those kinds of names seem to be stereotypical Mormon/UT names. But.. I guess I shouldn't talk. I admit to liking a couple names that are not common but at least they're not spelled ridiculously unusual. Quote
talisyn Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) Mikbone, ty for this thread, my husband and I are expecting around Oct. and are looking for names too. I love the idea your sons have about Jared, that's very clever. We're pretty sure the middle name of a boy will be Michael cause Kevin's middle name is Michael. The first names are hard though! Kaleb (I'm not brave enough to try Kobol) or Malachite cause I love its chemical composition ( Cu2CO3(OH)2. It's cute!). Maybe Malachite for a girl...All the names I was thinking of when my oldest was born 10 years ago have become 'popular'. Hannah, Olivia, Emma, Heather, all trendy now. I'm almost to the point of looking at anime for girls names. I could def use help BTW, congrats! Edited March 8, 2010 by talisyn Quote
Maureen Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) The wife is due in May and we haven't found a name yet. This will be number nine. We are doing our best to repopulate the republican party and provide bodies for LDS spirits. Number eight was a beautiful baby boy that we named Porter Rockwell. When his name was announced in our local sacrament meeting we heard by report that there was an audible gasp from the congregation. We are looking for a name this new baby that will rival the last. We stopped getting ultrasounds for the baby's sex long ago because there are just too few surprises in life. So we need names for both female and male. These are my suggestions. For a girl: Emma Hale or Zina Jacobs (not Young) and for a boy: Joseph Smith. If I think of others, I'll add later. :)M. Edited March 8, 2010 by Maureen Quote
Maureen Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 ...I am curious to know why you named your other son after a notorious murderer. Do you not like your son? Was "The Boston Strangler" already taken?Porter Rockwell may have a had a rotten job during his adult life in the LDS church, but it was the wild west and somebody had to do it. Besides his job as hitman, I'm sure he add good qualities. Nobody's perfect.M. Quote
Maureen Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 Same here. Mahonri Moriancumer is my favorite prophet but I can't do that to a child. The other boys in the family want to name the new one Jared, so they can all refer to themselves as the brother of Jared. But that doesn't seem right either...My friend's cousin has 8 kids. His first is named Jared and his youngest is named Mahonri Moriancumer. M. Quote
Bluejay Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 (edited) Hi, Mikbone. I'm not telling you any of the names I'm thinking of, because we're still planning to have another baby soon, and I have problems sharing. {AbE: How come my smiley didn't work? That totally stole my thunder.} Edited March 13, 2010 by Bluejay addition (marked) Quote

Maureen Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 If my friend's 7th child would have been a boy, he would have been named Elijah Melchizedek. M. Quote
Dravin Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 Nebuchadnezzar ! Its so fun to say !If you want biblical and fun to say then I recommend Maher-shalal-hash-baz, maybe as a middle name? Quote
mikbone Posted March 14, 2010 Author Report Posted March 14, 2010 Nebuchadnezzar ! Its so fun to say !The other children would just call him Buddy.Sometimes that is the hardest part about giving a name, avoiding names that are shortened to unfortunate nicknames. You don't see Richard being used much anymore. I think Melchizedek would fall into that category. My mom has a nasty habit of adding a Y to the end of each name - thus Michael becomes Mikey etc... So the wife and I have been trying to find names that make it a challenge for her. She is resourceful though. Someone mentioned Emma Hale. I like Eliza R. Snow better though. We discussed Elizabeth and we both love Beth so it's a possibility. R stands for Roxcy which is growin on me too.Still looking for a boy name. Quote
Miss_Mae Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 Maybe Utah Mormons try to use such "unique" names b/c they do enough genealogy to realize that having ten Mary Elizabeth's in your family can make you want to pull a branch of the family tree and poke your eyes out with it Personally, I have a unique name and have always loved it for its uniqueness. I really do think it can be helpful for keeping things straight. I have to ladies of the same name at work and their mail, their clients, and their phone messages always gets mixed up. Remember in school when one of the Joe's in the class had to go by Joe-S and the other by Joey? As long as you don't live near Tyler, TX (where my husband and I hope to live someday), I'll let you use 'my' baby names, if you want . We don't have any kids yet, but hope to soon. Here's the names we like: GIRLS: -Roselynne Mary Belle Surname Reasoning: Rose means purity and Mary is representative of Mary the mother of Jesus. Belle means beauty. Nicknames could include Rose, Rosemary, etc. The 'ynne' is because my name also has a 'ynne' in it. -Evelynne Adelle Surname Reasoning: Eve = mother of all living, El = singular of Elohim, representative of Heavenly Mother, 'ynne' representative of earthly mother (as stated with regards to Roselynne) Lucille Elle Surname Reasoning: It's a pretty name BOYS: -Simon Peter Surname -Charles Surname (Obviously haven't thought quite as much about the boys. Watch, Heavenly Father will give me all boys, just because I love my girl name choices so much!) Quote
