Jason Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 I prefer the title "Liberal". However, having taken this quiz before, I already knew what it would say: LIBERTARIAN LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties. Your PERSONAL issues Score is 80%. Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 70%. Quote

Depending on the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes support individual freedom of choice. Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind, tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what they describe as "practical" solutions to problems. Your PERSONAL issues Score is 40%. Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 40%. (Please note: Scores falling on the Centrist border are counted as Centrist.) Quote
Ray Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 Heh, how did anyone answer those questions?Government should not censor speech, press, media or Internet.I believe there are times and instances when the government should censor certain those things, but at other times the government should not.And I can’t give my answer as “maybe”, because there is no “maybe” about it.Unless by “maybe” the questioner means “sometimes”, which I would pretty much use all the time.Military service should be voluntary. There should be no draft. At times, yes, it should be voluntary, but at other times everyone who can should fight. There should be no laws regarding sex for consenting adults. While I believe there should be no laws restricting sex between husband and wife, as long as the sex is totally private, I would vote to prohibit sex between two adults having sex in front of me or my wife or our children who didn’t ask for our permission. And btw, that is exactly what pornography over the internet is to me and other people, with two [or more] consenting adults choosing to pop on our screens without warning.Repeal laws prohibiting adult possession and use of drugs.Which laws? Should we allow drugs to kill adults, even if the adult is only 18 year old and doesn’t really know the effects of those drugs and what he is doing? There should be no National ID card.I don’t really care if I have a “card” as long as I have some way to identify myself to someone else who doesn’t know me when that knowledge could be beneficial, to either me or someone else. I assume it's a tool that some would use to pigeonhole others in order to marginalize them. As for its validity, I doubt it has any.Well, since I introduced this link, I'll defend the test. Yes, it is short, and so the categories are admittedly broad. I scored "conservative" on this one, "moderate conservative" on a longer version I took. The purpose of the test is to show people that they are probably more LIBERTARIAN than they think. The producers of this are open about their goal, and the site makes its affiliation clear. Nevertheless, Conservatives, Centrists, and Liberals come out as they are. It's not meant to pigeon-hole anyone. I kept hearing Jason make his classical-liberal arguments, and complaining that Democrats were not "true liberals." I recognized his argument as being "Classic liberal" (i.e., Libertarian), and remembered this test.I hope these disclosures clarify the agenda of the producers, and my purpose in introducing it. Hey, it was kinda fun. Who'd a thunk Aristotle would come out Centrist???? Quote

I'm actually more anarchist, but that wasn't an option I'll tell everyone a big secret, since it's the time of the year for presents. Liberals are compassionate and love to help people, trees, spotted owls, etc. But the number one thing that makes people liberal IMHO is a complete and total lack of trust in moral behavior of people in charge of economies, large or small. Take that for what it's worth and Happy Holidays Quote
