Vort Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 I enjoy the occasional can (preferably cold) of Chef Boyardee, that it isn't particularly reminiscent of the actual dishes it claims heritage from doesn't mean it doesn't have merits. As far as the name, he Americanized it, the original Boiardi looks a lot more Italian than Boyardee... actually the latter almost looks Swedish for some reason.Seriously? Boiardi? I never knew that. Changes the pronunciation, too, from boy-are-DEE to boy-ARE-dee. Quote
RMGuy Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 WOWZA, Some of this stuff you guys eat, oughta be against the WoW! How you can choke down taco bell, american chocolate, or chef boyardee is beyond me.....but then this is from the guy that likes pasties so maybe I shouldn't speak to loudly...lol! -RM Quote
Guest Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 I think pasties might be something other than what I know them as. Maybe I should say, I hope they are. Quote

john doe Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 I heard they make edible pasties. Not that I would have any direct knowledge of that though. Quote

RMGuy Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 Ummm.....a VERY embarrassed RM....This kind: Pasty - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaIn the UK the plural is pasties. Although.......-RM Quote
pam Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 Do you really want to know? If that was to me. No, not really. A little more about my sister than I would want to know. Quote

RMGuy Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 Good point Dravin, I wasn't even thinking of the confusion when I typed it....lol, after all...I knew what I meant...lol. And for the record they are yummy! -RM Quote

JudoMinja Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 As far as a "Mexican" resturaunt with food that actually tastes like it's from Mexico, my parents have a favorite small family run resturant that they like to go to here in Texas called "Jalisco's". Not only does it actually taste Mexican, but you get large servings for a descent price. And... they make their salsa fresh every day. My parents love to go there just to buy the fresh salsa and have even canned some if it in their food storage. Quote
john doe Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 I think that everyone's opinion of what constitutes 'real' Mexican food is wrong. Except mine. I would be the authority, and if you disagree, then you are mistaken. Quote
beefche Posted December 9, 2011 Author Report Posted December 9, 2011 When I was in Mexico, I found the food absolutely delicious. And absolutely nothing like the "Mexican" I've eaten in the US, anywhere. Quote
annewandering Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 We lived near the border of Mexico in Imperial county. We discovered the most wonderful carne asada. Of course it was made and sold by a Chinese grocer. Quote
pam Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 When living in San Diego, I used to go down to Tijuana quite often. I loved the tacos from the street taco stands. I was the only one of my group that would ever eat them. But they were the best tacos. Quote
annewandering Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 We used to get food from some of the street vendors but not often. It was interesting that they wanted to put chili on everything including fruit. Quote

miztrniceguy Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 Del Taco isn't east of the Mississippi either...so quit derailing my Taco Bell worship thread! Neither am I east of the Mississippi, and we don't have Del Taco. I remember when Del Taco merged Naugles. The demise of the Macho Beef Burrito was a huge loss. Quote

Great food, large quantities, and good price. Quote
