Guest xforeverxmetalx Posted April 30, 2012 Report Posted April 30, 2012 I get my news (and a lot of other things) from RSS feeds, but I've recently decided to cut down on the amount of news sites I subscribe to. I want a wide variety so I get balanced news, but as of now I usually wake up to 300-500 news articles. It takes a decent amount of time even to look over headlines. So I figured I'd narrow it down to just five sources of major news (excluding tech news, local news, earthquakes, and some of the other more specialized stuff). I already know I'm keeping BBC and Fox (for a site outside the US, and a "conservative" news site), but I'm not sure what else. Also, I'd prefer these sites to be as free from "celebrity news" as possible. So I figured I'd ask you all - what are your favorite news sites? What combinations of sites do you use? Quote

Vort Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 MSNBC and Whitehouse Press BriefingsI think The Onion places slightly above these. Quote
annewandering Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 The Onion is funny which has to count for something. Add Jon Stewart to that. :) Quote
DevtheWind Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 (edited) I usually stick with Fox News... being conservative and all Edited May 1, 2012 by DevtheWind Found out what The Onion is.... lol Quote
Guest xforeverxmetalx Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 (edited) I never really liked The Onion for some reason. I get that it's fake news but somehow I've never really found it all that funny (sure, a few times, but not nearly as much as some people do). Thanks for the responses though. I get that people of different political views like different sources and some think that "opposite" sources are the equivalent to the result of a five-year-old trying to write the news. But I personally think that learning about both sides is important in developing a valid opinion, so I'll try to keep myself updated on whatever nonsense is being said on either side. prisonchaplain Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 MSNBC and Whitehouse Press Briefings I don't know...every once in awhile MSNBC shows a smidgeon of a "critical spirit." Most of the time it's reliable...but yeah, those WH Press briefings are very faith-affirming. Quote
pam Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 I usually stick with Fox News... being conservative and all and I'd have to agree with The Onion... Oh noooo...You just said the wrong thing. Now waiting for a certain person on this site to join in to respond to this one. Quote

HoosierGuy Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 Talking Points Memo almost every day. Informed Comment once a week. I used to read Huffington Post but it has become too much s*x and garbage about Hollywood. I haven't been on Huffington Post in a few weeks and my desire to read that site grows less and less as each day goes by. Quote

embleau Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 My wife and I watch multiple sources. MSNBC, CNN, and ..FauxNews (sorry Almost throwup a bit in my mouth) So in a nutshell breakdown I see is this... MSNBC = OBAMA WALKED ON WATER TODAY! CNN = Obama took a boat across the English channel today. Fox News = Obama hijacked a boat full of English Citizens today, forcing them to go to EVIL SOCIALIST FRANCE! George W. Bush would have Invaded! All kidding aside... We watch multiple sources and get the complete picture instead of one networks political bias. Quote
