My husband is into that stuff - historical stuff. Spartacus would have been something right up his alley. He doesn't watch those soft porn stuff with bloody battles so over-the-top simply for the shock factor.

He watches Vikings (History Channel). But even that he presses the fast forward button because even while it is on the History Channel it still does have a lot of that stuff although not to the degree of GOT or Spartacus.

It is the same reason we did not watch Passion of Christ. We know the extent of the sacrifice Jesus Christ went through for our atonement without having to watch all the gore on the big screen. There are a jillion other ways to get immersed in Christ's atoning sacrifice.

Oooo, I just started watching that one on Hulu -- I'm only 2 episodes in.

Some of you said that there are questionable things in the Game of Thrones book, what are those things? Is it as graphic as the show, like describing sex in graphic detail, or describing war/violence in graphic detail?

I'm almost done with the second book myself.

There're sexual descriptions in the book, usually lasting about a paragraph, maybe two. At best you just know that two characters had sex, at worst (so far) you know what's been touched.

George R.R. Martin's also very clearly a big fan of women's breasts, so you'll generally be learning about them if a female character is given much description.

As far as violence, I can't think of any examples of the book being graphic about it. Granted, I notice sexual stuff much more than I do violence.

After 6 books... If I never read/hear the word "teats" again. It. Will. Be. Too. Soon.

It was painful enough writing it here.

Of ALL the possible words to use as a baseline/ repeated constantly, THAT one? Oink.

How about udders for the next series?

I'm not sure I agree with you about Martin being a breat man. I've begun to suspect he's gay, just due to how he handles female characters. Suuuuuuu-eeeeee. Also the near "chore" he describes those scenes with women in them. ((This is a totally unsubstantiated musing. He could also just be extremely shallow. ;).)) Seriously, I like the books, Im just less than thrilled about a few things in them. Like udders.

Ok, so I'm a huge Fantasy/Science Fiction Fan and I see that HBO has a series called "Game of Thrones" after the book series by Martin.

So the question is can you be a good Mormon and watch this show? I see that it has nudity/sexual situations. Should I just totally avoid it? It's so tempting, but I'm just not sure.

yup avoid it. When potiphars wife tempted joseph he ran.

from previous comments in the thread .. I don't think I want to pick up the books either.

Description-wise, I don't recall the books being as detailed as the show, but the point is definitely there.

What I considered graphic was the subject matter (sex, violence, incest, etc) that comes in droves. It may not be intricatly detailed, but it's there.
