Dr T Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 I have always listened to a variety of music styles. I've been more interested in Country music recently. I've come across this song, which can be read and listed to here: http://www.hit-country-music-lyrics.com/Ro...You-Lyrics.html and as a man, it really hits home for me. It is something to remind ourselves about. I hope you all enjoy it. Quote
smilerlse Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 Aww that was cute and awesome! thanks! I'll have to listen to more country songs cuz I always find their lyrics pretty awesome. Quote

He had to try and do that little head turn (not to see the tears starting) and he was pretty quieted for a minute. It touched him too.Nothing like telling the whole world at LDS talk B) Quote
shanstress70 Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 I've never been a fan of country music... probably a rebellion thing bc I grew up with my mother listening to it and it wasn't 'cool' enough for me. But now I find myself really liking it for some reason. I have heard this song before and love it! My husband also tries not to tear up when listening to it. And of course I downright CRY. (I'm a very tenderhearted soul who cries at the drop of a hat.) It's so fitting with our 4 yr old, as they are very close and hang out a lot in the garage and stuff. My son, at such a young age, knows so many things I don't about fixing things! He also knows what every tool in the garage is used for and it's name. The other day, his dad slipped and said "dammit" when he made a mistake. Our son said, "Daddy, don't say dammit. It's an ugly word." The kids do keep us in check, don't they? Just recently I saw the video, which was very touching as well. Thanks for the link, Dr. T. Quote
Gwen Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 i've loved that one from the first time i heard it. but it didn't bring tears to my eyes.....i wonder what that says about me. lol now this one, i've only just gotten to where i can listen to it without crying, but there are moments when it still hits me. http://www.hit-country-music-lyrics.com/Jo...ome-Lyrics.html Quote

BenRaines Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 I have been country since the day I was born. You all have been missing out for so many years. If you want to go way back find the lyrics to the song by Dolly Parton called Coat of Many Colors that my momma made for me. Another is The Greatest man I ever knew by Reba McEntire. Ben Raines Quote
Dr T Posted April 11, 2007 Author Report Posted April 11, 2007 I haven't heard those but I'll look into them. Thanks for the rec. I thought you were talking about "The Greatest" by Kenny Rogers. It is a baseball song-reframe that is really good. Quote
BenRaines Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 Back through the years I go wonderin once again Back to the seasons of my youth I recall a box of rags that someone gave us And how my momma put the rags to use There were rags of many colors Every piece was small And I didnt have a coat And it was way down in the fall Momma sewed the rags together Sewin every piece with love She made my coat of many colors That I was so proud of As she sewed, she told a story From the bible, she had read About a coat of many colors Joseph wore and then she said Perhaps this coat will bring you Good luck and happiness And I just couldnt wait to wear it And momma blessed it with a kiss Chorus: My coat of many colors That my momma made for me Made only from rags But I wore it so proudly Although we had no money I was rich as I could be In my coat of many colors My momma made for me So with patches on my britches Holes in both my shoes In my coat of many colors I hurried off to school Just to find the others laughing And making fun of me In my coat of many colors My momma made for me And oh I couldnt understand it For I felt I was rich And I told them of the love My momma sewed in every stitch And I told em all the story Momma told me while she sewed And how my coat of many colors Was worth more than all their clothes But they didnt understand it And I tried to make them see That one is only poor Only if they choose to be Now I know we had no money But I was rich as I could be In my coat of many colors My momma made for me Made just for me If you can find the song online let me know what you think when it is sung by Dolly Parton. Ben Raines The Greatest Man I Never Knew The greatest man I never knew Lived just down the hall And everyday we said hello But never touched at all He was in his paper I was in my room How was I to know he thought I hung the moon The greatest man I never knew Came home late every night He never had too much to say Too much was on his mind I never really knew him And now it seems so sad Everything he gave to us took all he had Then the days turned into years And the memories to black and white He grew cold like an old winter wind Blowing across my life The greatest words I never heard I guess Ill never hear The man I thought could never die Sbeen dead almost a year He was good at business But there was business left to do He never said he loved me Guess he thought I knew Another of my favorites Ben Raines Quote

Gwen Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 here is one i think should be played daily on the radio. with all the divorce topics in forum it's come to mind several times. Anderson Lynn I Don't Want to Play House Today, I sat alone at the window And I watched our little girl outside at play, With the little boy next door like so many times before But something didn't seem quite right today So I went outside to see what they were doing And then the teardrops made my eyes go dim, 'Cause I heard him name a game, and I hung my head in shame When I heard our little girl say to him: CHORUS: I don't want to play house I know it can't be fun I've watched Mommy and Daddy And if that's the way it's done I don't want to play house It makes my Mommy cry 'Cause when she played house My Daddy said "Goodbye" CHORUS AGAIN Quote
Dr T Posted April 12, 2007 Author Report Posted April 12, 2007 awww Wow, those are powerfull too. Thank you for that one ALmom Quote
Dr T Posted April 12, 2007 Author Report Posted April 12, 2007 George Strait's Love Without End Amen is also a good song. If interested, you should hear it sung. I got sent home from school one day with a shiner on my eye. Fightin' was against the rules and it didn't matter why. When dad got home I told that story just like I'd rehearsed. And then stood there on those tremblin' knees and waited for the worst. And he said, "Let me tell you a secret about a father's love, A secret that my daddy said was just between us." He said, "Daddies don't just love their children every now and then. It's a love without end, amen, it's a love without end, amen." When I became a father in the spring of '81 There was no doubt that stubborn boy was just like my father's son. And when I thought my patience had been tested to the end, I took my daddy's secret and I passed it on to him. And he said, "Let me tell you a secret about a father's love, A secret that my daddy said was just between us." He said, "Daddies don't just love their children every now and then. It's a love without end, amen, it's a love without end, amen." Last night I dreamed I died and stood outside those pearly gates. When suddenly I realized there must be some mistake. If they know half the things I've done, they'll never let me in. And then somewhere from the other side I heard these words again. And he said, "Let me tell you a secret about a father's love, A secret that my daddy said was just between us." He said, "Daddies don't just love their children every now and then. It's a love without end, amen, it's a love without end, amen." Quote
shanstress70 Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Dr T, I heard that one on the radio yesterday for the first time. And of course I was boo-hooing! I'm telling you guys, I'm pathetic. Those are some special lyrics. I guess the reason why the ones about father/child touch me so much is bc I never had that... and I'm SO glad my son does. My husband is the best father I've ever known! Quote
Canuck Mormon Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Another great song is "If you get there before I do" I forget who sings it, but it always makes me well up when I hear it. I'd tell you what it's about, but you need to hear the song to get it. It has a lovely message in it. It's rather unfortunate that most of todays music, other than country, don't have good messages in them. I'm not a fan of country, so I mostly ignore the lyrics of the new songs and just listen to the music. Quote
Dr T Posted April 12, 2007 Author Report Posted April 12, 2007 I'm sorry to hear that Shan. I'm glad he has that too. :) === Canuck, Yes! That song by Collin Raye is great. A agree, many of these song need to be listed too to fully feel them. I read a note my grandma wrote back in 1923 Grandpa kept it in his coat and he showed it once to me He said boy you might not understand But a long, long time ago Grandma's daddy didn't like me none But I love your grandma so We had this crazy plan to meet And run away together Get married in the first town we came to and live forever But nailed to the tree where we were supposed to meet instead I found this letter And this is what it said If you get there before I do Don't give up on me I'll meet you when my chores are through I don't know how long I'll be But I'm not gonna let you down Darling wait and see And between now and then til I see you again I'll be loving you, love me I read those words just hours before my grandma past away In the door way of a church Where me and grandpa stopped to pray I know I'd never seen him cry in all my 15 years But as he said these words to her His eyes filled up with tears If you get there before I do Don't give up on me I'll meet you when my chores are through I don't know how long I'll be But I'm not gonna let you down Darling wait and see And between now and then til I see you again I'll be loving you, love me Between now and then til I see you again I'll be loving you, love me Quote
Canuck Mormon Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Thank you Dr.T. Just reading those words again made me almost cry. It's a wonderful song. Quote
