BenRaines Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 I don't understand why people do not like Country music. It is the most down to earth music there is.How about Garth Brooks and "Unanswered Prayers" or "If Tomorrow Never Comes""Unanswered Prayers"Just the other night at a hometown football game My wife and I ran into my old high school flame And as I introduced them the past came back to me And I couldn't help but think of the way things used to be She was the one that I'd wanted for all times And each night I'd spend prayin' that God would make her mine And if he'd only grant me this wish I wished back then I'd never ask for anything again Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers She wasn't quite the angel that I remembered in my dreams And I could tell that time had changed me In her eyes too it seemed We tried to talk about the old days There wasn't much we could recall I guess the Lord knows what he's doin' after all And as she walked away and I looked at my wife And then and there I thanked the good Lord For the gifts in my life Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs That just because he may not answer doesn't mean he don't care Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers Some of God's greatest gifts are all too often unanswered... Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers If Tomorrow Never Comes Sometimes late at night I lie awake and watch her sleeping She's lost in peaceful dreams So I turn out the lights and lay there in the dark And the thought crosses my mind If I never wake up in the morning Would she ever doubt the way I feel About her in my heart If tomorrow never comes Will she know how much I loved her Did I try in every way to show her every day That she's my only one And if my time on earth were through And she must face the world without me Is the love I gave her in the past Gonna be enough to last If tomorrow never comes 'Cause I've lost loved ones in my life Who never knew how much I loved them Now I live with the regret That my true feelings for them never were revealed So I made a promise to myself To say each day how much she means to me And avoid that circumstance Where there's no second chance to tell her how I feel If tomorrow never comes Will she know how much I loved her Did I try in every way to show her every day That she's my only one And if my time on earth were through And she must face the world without me Is the love I gave her in the past Gonna be enough to last If tomorrow never comes So tell that someone that you love Just what you're thinking of If tomorrow never comes Quote
Dr T Posted April 12, 2007 Author Report Posted April 12, 2007 I was anti country for a long time. I used to hate the "Twangyness" of it. I liked the slow, meaningful songs as expressed above but I'm starting to like more and more of it. I'm from Los Angeles but now that I live in the country, I have an excuse to listen to that type of music LOL. I really liked this song, when I first got into country songs. Artist/Band: Neal McCoy Lyrics for Song: No Doubt About It Just like every lock's got to have a key Every river flows looking for the sea And when you plant a seed, it reaches for the sky That's just the way it is, nobody wonders why Like coffee needs a cup you know that it ain't much good without it We were meant to be together, no doubt about it Like a hammer and a nail, socks and shoes We go hand in hand, like a rhythm and blues What good is a man who hasn't got a dream Bout as good as a car with no gasoline You're the one I'm dreaming of got to have your love can't live without it We were meant to be together, no doubt about it No there ain't no doubt about it Something was missing it was making me blue But all I ever needed was you Just like every lock's got to have a key Every river flows lookin' for the sea And when you plant a seed, it reaches for the sky That's just the way it is, girl with you and I Like coffee needs a cup you know that it ain't much good without it We were meant to be together, no doubt about it No there ain't no doubt about it Like a hammer and a nail, socks and shoes We go hand in hand, like a rhythm and blues What good is a man who hasn't got a dream 'Bout as good as a car with no gasoline You're the one I'm dreaming of got to have your love can't live without it We were meant to be together, no doubt about it Again, find it and listen-it flows better when it's heard. :) Quote
Gwen Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Artist/Band: Mark Wills Lyrics for Song: Don't Laugh At Me I'm a little boy with glasses The one they call the geek A little girl who never smiles 'Cause I've got braces on my teeth And I know how it feels To cry myself to sleep I'm that kid on every playground Who's always chosen last A single teenage mother Tryin' to overcome my past You don't have to be my friend But is it too much to ask Don't laugh at me Don't call me names Don't get your pleasure from my pain In God's eyes we're all the same Someday we'll all have perfect wings Don't laugh at me I'm the cripple on the corner You've passed me on the street And I wouldn't be out here beggin' If I had enough to eat And don't think I don't notice That our eyes never meet I lost my wife and little boy when Someone cross that yellow line The day we laid them in the ground Is the day I lost my mind And right now I'm down to holdin' This little cardboard sign...so Don't laugh at me Don't call me names Don't get your pleasure from my pain In God's eyes we're all the same Someday we'll all have perfect wings Don't laugh at me I'm fat, I'm thin, I'm short, I'm tall I'm deaf, I'm blind, hey, aren't we all Don't laugh at me Don't call me names Don't get your pleasure from my pain In God's eyes we're all the same Someday we'll all have perfect wings Don't laugh at me Quote
JcDean78 Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 I like all music except for Rap and some screaming metal. Call me old fashion... but I like my music to have a rythem and beat! There are a few great songs by Alan Jackson that I treasure. One is about a father who was a drunk and druggie who is talking to his son not to stumble like he did which is very powerful to me coming from that exact situation. Many other great songs by Alan that I love. Also Allison Kraus. She sang a very spiritual song called "Palm of your hand" which is about how we are in the pal of God's hand and is very powerful. Give it a listen if you have not. Quote
Canuck Mormon Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 A few years ago(late 90's), I was into country music, but then I realized that it really wasn't "country music", it was rock done by country singers. That's when I had enough. I'll admit they usually have the best lyrics and meanings in their songs, but it's just so hard to listen to. Besides, music attained it's peak in the 80's , right? Quote
Dr T Posted April 13, 2007 Author Report Posted April 13, 2007 Those lyrics are good-thank you ALmom. I want to hear it now. === Thank you JcDean78. Alan Jackson does have some good ones. I like his response to 9/11 song. I also love Alison Krauss a lot. === Canuck, For the longest time, I thought it peaked in the 70's. I love classic rock, which is now considered oldies (how did that happen?) Quote
Blessed Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Dr. T, you got OLD when you weren't looking!!! (lol) Quote

Outshined Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 My daughter's JROTC class did a Veteran's Day program last year that had this song in it. I'd never heard it before at the time, and it choked up most of the vets there pretty good.ArlingtonI never thought that this is where I'd settle down. I thought I'd die an old man back in my hometown. They gave me this plot of land, Me and some other men, for a job well done. There's a big White House sits on a hill just up the road. The man inside, he cried the day they brought me home. They folded up a flag and told my Mom and Dad: "We're proud of your son." And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property. I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company. I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done. I can rest in peace; I'm one of the chosen ones: I made it to Arlington. I remember Daddy brought me here when I was eight. We searched all day to find out where my grand-dad lay. And when we finally found that cross, He said: "Son, this is what it cost to keep us free." Now here I am, a thousand stones away from him. He recognized me on the first day I came in. And it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels, And saluted me. And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property. I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company. I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done. I can rest in peace; I'm one of the chosen ones: I made it to Arlington. And everytime I hear twenty-one guns, I know they brought another hero home to us. And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property. I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company. We're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done. We can rest in peace; 'Cause we are the chosen ones: We made it to Arlington. Yeah, dust to dust, Don't cry for us: We made it to Arlington.http://www.cmt.com/loaded/player.jhtml?vid...amp;adPN=videos Quote

shanstress70 Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 Shan, A new country phase? :)Yeah, I just started listening to country for the first time in my life about 2 weeks ago. This doesn't count when I was a child and my mom drove me crazy with it. Quote
Dr T Posted April 22, 2007 Author Report Posted April 22, 2007 Like I said, Shan, I was anti-country for a long time. I started listening to the quieter songs and found them to have some powerful meanings sometimes. Some of the faster ones and twangy ones too I like a little bit more now. They are just fun. Quote
Chanteemomof6 Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 I listen to country too. But here is one from the christian music channel.http://www.myspace.com/markschultzClick on "Walking her home" here are just the lyrics listed: go above to hear the song. I dedicate it to those that could imagine their lives without their spouses.Looking backHe sees it allIt was her first date the night he came to callHer dad said sonHave her home on timeAnd promise me you’ll never leave her sideHe took her to a show in townAnd he was ten feet off the ground(Chorus)He was walking her homeAnd holding her handOh the way she smiled it stole the breath right out of himDown that old roadWith the stars up aboveHe remembers where he was the night he fell in loveHe was walking her homeTen more years and a waiting roomAt half past oneAnd the doctor said come in and meet your sonHis knees went weakWhen he saw his wifeShe was smiling as she said he’s got your eyesAnd as she slept he held her tightHis mind went back to that first night(Chorus)He walked her through the best days of her lifeSixty years together and he never left her sideA nursing homeAt eighty-fiveAnd the doctor said it could be her last nightAnd the nurse said OhShould we tell him nowOr should he wait until the morning to find outBut when they checked her room that nightHe was laying by her sideOh he was walking her homeAnd holding her handOh the way she smiled when he said this is not the endAnd just for a while they were eighteenAnd she was still more beautiful to him than anythingHe was walking her homeHe was walking her homeLooking backHe sees it allIt was her first date the night he came to call Quote
Dr T Posted May 2, 2007 Author Report Posted May 2, 2007 Here's one I found, I really like the whole album and it is "very country" to me. I really like this song, and others, on this album. Randy Travis Album Title: Inspiration Journey Song Title: Drive Another Nail Sam was a carpenter fifty years He pounded out blood, sweat and tears One day he hung his hammer up He wanted to do the things he loved What once was Sunday fishin' Now was seven days a week He told his wife to find me, I'll be down at the creek. 'Cause I don't want to drive another nail I've worked hard to do my job and I did it well I've got the scars on these two hands To show I haven't failed But I dont' want to drive another nail. Now she was a woman full of faith And old Sam was full of pride And she knew that he had one more job To do before he died. Easter Sunday rolled around In a country church for the lost and found Oh, Sam was there against his will As the preacher spoke on Calvary's hill Of how they took the master And they nailed him to a tree You could hear old Sam a cryin' As he fell down on his knees. I don't wanna drive another nail I want to live my life for you I want to do it well You've got the scars on your two hands That show where I have failed Lord, I don't want to drive another nail. I don't wanna drive another nail I want to live my life for you I want to do it well You've got the scars on your two hands That show where I have failed Lord, I don't want to drive another nail... prisonchaplain Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 One of the simplest and most beautiful worship choruses I love is:Let it rainLet it rainOpen the floodgates of heavenThat's the whole song. It repeats over and over again. You shut your eyes, and offer these words of petition to God. Soon, you sense you've come to the throne of grace, confessed that your soul is dry and weary, and pleaded for the freshing rains of the Holy Spirit to sooth, heal, cleanse, and replenish. Quote
Dr T Posted August 30, 2007 Author Report Posted August 30, 2007 Thank you for that song ALmom! I liked the concept. I'll probably pick up that album. Thanks again. Quote
