prisonchaplain Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 It's common to buy little gifts, whether for exchanges, for teachers, for those who regularly serve us (hair stylists, etc.). So, what are some excellent gifts for $10 or less.I'll start with some ideas:1. Gift Cards (Target, Starbucks, etc.)2. Stationary set3. Homemade baked goods4. Book5. Heavily discounted item you know the person will like Quote
bytebear Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 A mug with a fun saying or picture.Hot chocolate mixmovie tickets (although that might be more than $10 depending).candy or chocolate. Quote
Guest Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 A mug with a fun saying or picture.Hot chocolate mixmovie tickets (although that might be more than $10 depending).candy or chocolate. This is what im doing this year. I bought 72 of these mugs for $2.84 each plus $40 shipping for the lot. I ordered the mugs without any logo. Then I bought metallic Sharpie and hand-wrote each of their names on it with something special for each one (like "Marshmallows, please" for my niece's mug because she always says that when I make hot chocolate). Then let the ink set for 24 hours then bake in the oven so it won't come off in the dishwasher. Quote
Bini Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 PC here's some ideas..• Hand mittens• Ear muffs• Hand soaps, bath salts• Car wash giftcard• Cellphone protective case (even the fancy ones can be found close to $10 on eBay.) Quote
Bini Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 $9.99 in cash.I like Vort's idea. Very original. I would never think to give someone nine dollars and ninety-nine cents. Quote
pam Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 I like Vort's idea. Very original. I would never think to give someone nine dollars and ninety-nine cents.Of course then you would have people wondering why you couldn't throw in the extra penny and make it an even $10. Quote
Bini Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 Of course then you would have people wondering why you couldn't throw in the extra penny and make it an even $10. And I'd give them a look like "Really? You're gonna whine over a penny? Really?" LOL Quote
Dravin Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 Of course then you would have people wondering why you couldn't throw in the extra penny and make it an even $10. Then I know who not to get a gift for in the future. Quote
pam Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 And I'd give them a look like "Really? You're gonna whine over a penny? Really?" LOLIf someone did that to me, I wouldn't say anything but I'd sure be thinking it. Quote
Bini Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 If someone did that to me, I wouldn't say anything but I'd sure be thinking it.I think you'd have to lack humour for that to really rub someone the wrong way and to have a hissy fit over it. If I got that I'd get a good chuckle out of it and only teasingly would I demand where my one cent was. Quote

Bini Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 I'd only see humor in it if I knew the gift was supposed to be under $10. :)So it would really bother you?I must be getting too soft. Thanks to my husband who has finally rubbed off on me. Hehe. I guess I just don't sweat the small stuff as much as I used to. Quote
pam Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 I never said it would bother me. I just said I'd be wondering why they didn't throw in another penny and make it an even 10. As far as humor, I wouldn't understand the humor unless I knew the gift was to be under $10. Not knowing that, I would just think it very strange not humorous. Quote
NeuroTypical Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 We've handed out jars of LDS cannery Jam for years. When you're in an LDS area, that would probably get some rolled eyes. But here where we're a tiny minority, folks are thrilled to get "jam that my daddy made". Quote

Not knowing that, I would just think it very strange not humorous.Well that's why I asked if it'd bother you. I'm glad it wouldn't "bother you" because it's such a minor thing to get fired up about. I agree, I'd think it was strange but I'd still laugh about it, and I'd know exactly who it came from even if it were a random grab bag type thing. My brother is the only person that thinks like that. Quote

Guest Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 This weekend my friend took me to a restaurant supply store. Oh my goodness, I think it's my new favorite store. For $10 or under, I could put together:A pizza pan and nice pizza cutterAn ice cream scoop with a couple of nice ice cream/milkshake glassesA great paring knife, maybe given with some exotic fruit?A cheese knife to be given with a nice chunk of gouda from CostcoOr many other combinations of things.
