Gabelma
[CharleyCharley, did you show this to us before? I've seen it before but can't remember why? I love it!ElphieYes I did it is fantastic lol - I know you thread was ment as a joke sorry I did find it very funny , but societies attitude is just as dangerous and needs challenging - you know me lol placards at the ready. Too skinny is just as dangerous and unhealthy yet it is portrayed as beautiful today, up until the Industrial Revolution in 1750 Big Girls were considered beautiful, to be able to eat was a sign of wealth and ironially seen as healthy. Just as our society sees tiny figures as healthy when its not. Personally I think best way of reducing obesity in our societies is increasing self esteem in the individual - how many people over stuff when down? And just because CK doesn't find us attractive should be a big deal, the only people who need to find us attractive are ourselves. Thats what is so great about the song - most of it is about the girl finding herself beautiful.CharleyCharley
TheWatcher
This is an interesting subject for me, not only because as I have obesity in my family but that the prejudices of so many of you have been brought out into the light! I have read such wonderful, uplifting and inspiring posts left by many of you to unbelievers and doubters...been strengthened reading your avowals of the truthfulness of the gospel, the BOM, your faith in Christ....then it turns out that when the chance comes to rail against fat people and even call them SINNERS(!!!!) many of you good people jumped on that bandwagon. People who are otherwise extremely tolerant of many other people who are "different" then them. I am not attracted to overweight men, but my heart is open to give them a chance, to let them impress me in other areas. I WAS married for many years to a lean, mean fighting machine--a Marine, very fit and attractive. Now he makes me sick because of his new moral beliefs since he left the church. Even considering how slim he always was and the changes he has made (distancing himself from the Savior), I've NEVER heard him say disparaging remarks about overweight people...NEVER. TheWatcher
Oh yeah, another point...suppose a new overweight member of the church or an investigator stumbles upon this thread??? They may be less likely to join the church considering the prejudice many of you have shown. Good job.

CrimsonKairos
So if your spouse became overweight for whatever reason you would no longer find her attractive or beautiful? What about if their hair grows grey? Maybe a wrinkle?Yes, I am as shallow as a puddle and would divorce them the instant they ceased to look the exact way they did when I married them. Then again, I was talking about being attracted to big bodies to begin with, which is far different from marrying someone I'm attracted to and then adjusting to each other's changing bodies. But feel free to take a cheap shot and misconstrue my words. I don't mind. B)I've NEVER heard him say disparaging remarks about overweight people...NEVER.Good for him. Personally, I'm not attracted to big. Does that mean nobody likes big women? Nope. Just not me, and I wouldn't dream of telling anyone else they have to be attracted to what I find physically beautiful.Oh yeah, another point...suppose a new overweight member of the church or an investigator stumbles upon this thread??? They may be less likely to join the church considering the prejudice many of you have shown. Perhaps, but then again perhaps the knowledge that God has living prophets and apostles on the earth, and so on, might be more important to them than a few peoples' interpretation of the Word of Wisdom. I don't recall seeing any really heavy people. I didn't see anyone fighting for HC Parking, getting assistance with their scooters, canes, or oxygen tanks. When I go to a sports event, I check the weather forecast to see if we need jackets, usually take an umbrella and always carry bug-off spray. Try to get there early enough to get autographs and maybe a ball cap or t-shirt freebie. It's really hard to find interesting activities that heavy people will attend. They have so many allergies. sixpacktr
Oh yeah, another point...suppose a new overweight member of the church or an investigator stumbles upon this thread??? They may be less likely to join the church considering the prejudice many of you have shown. Good job.If you will notice, I included myself among the sinners in this area. Being fat is wrong. It is not healthy for your body, it increases the probability of all sorts of diseases, not to mention you just feel run down all of the time. And my bet is that 95% of it is curable, that there are 5% or less of the people that can claim a true medical condition for their obesity. Most of it is laziness and gluttony. What causes that?As someone said, it may be a lack of self esteem. I have found that when I am tired (which is a lot, since I am an insomniac) I tend to eat to keep awake. Also, sitting on my behind for 8 hours a day working on a computer, being in meetings, etc., is BORING, and a candy bar/soda pop (or Coke for you Southerners!)/etc., is a way to do SOMETHING interesting...Interestingly, I have found I eat WAY less during the weekend, because I am out doing something, like working on my car, or building something, and hunger is the last thing on my mind, because I am doing something I really want to be doing...Do I look down on fat people? No, because I are one! But I make no excuses for myself--I know how I got here, I know what I need to do to get rid of it. It is just so dang hard...So lighten up! (yes, a weak attempt at a double entendre, but not on the dirty side!)

Ive struggled with being underweight my whole life. And while I do eat healthily, at one point i started eating badly to try and put on weight. I got bad skin, and felt tired and weak. And I didnt put on weight. So it works both ways too. My in laws hate that I can eat whatever I want but dont. My MIL has just been diagnosed with diabetes, shes about 16 stone. Go figure. Now I am a healthy 5 ft 6 and 8 and a half stone. But only now has my body settled down to a healthy weight. The reason I get a bit annoyed is people stuffing themselves and then complaining their fat, when I was bullied for being thin even though there was nothing I could do to change it. I understand the psychological factors behind food, and for that I recommend people seek the help they need to be healthy, and feel happy and comfortable with their bodies. Annabelli
I am happy to report that we do not have one librarian who is overweight! Nor or any of the library attendants overweight. Most of the books on religion are not on the religion shelf with all the anti-religion books. You just have to know where to look. I am on the board that sponsors funds for the library! Elphaba
I am happy to report that we do not have one librarian who is overweight! Nor or any of the library attendants overweight. Your posts are so callous and nonsensical, I did a search to see if perhaps you display a deficiency of some sort. I do not say that lightly or meanly. I didn't want to reply if there were an innate situation that wasn't controllable. However, what I found displayed no such disability. Rather, I found the following hypocrisies:Worth carries different values for different people.Do you ever go to church? Do you listen? In my 25 years at Church I learned the exact opposite. All people will endure obstacles in their lives and will be helped through those days. This is a lovely Christian concept I remember learning in Church. However, according to you, apparently "all people" does not include heavy people. Rather, they are to be demeaned and ridiculed. You think that is helpful? Carrying a heavy load of burdens will become lighter as you help others. A prayer for someone who needs as much as you, will uplift you everyday.Yet another lovely Christian concept. Except, that is, when the heavy load is a heavy person. Then rather than saying a prayer you seem to be uplifted by writing debasing posts that ridicule heavy people. Young children refer to stupid as the "s" word. It carries the same significance as a cuss word! Then I suggest that you are being really "s." After all, when it comes to disgracing heavy people, rather than displaying your blatant hypocrisy, as illustrated above, all you have to do is keep it to yourself. The way you talk is mean. Just plain mean. And that is "s."It's also hypocritical, considering you are a Latter-day Saint, and writing about "helping others" and "praying for someone." Is this seriously the kind of person you want to be?If the answer is no, then stop ridiculing heavy people. If you don't, then you are "s." ElphabaPS Most of the books on religion are not on the religion shelf with all the anti-religion books. You just have to know where to look. MorningStar
Yeah, I would like to know why my sister's best friend can eat fast food every day and still be skinny as a rail? How? Another friend of mine seriously ate it every day and is also so skinny. My husband worked with a guy whose jaw got tired from chewing before he could get full. The doctors put him on a doughnut diet to try to make him gain weight, but all it did was make him feel sick. He would fold up a large pizza, eat the whole thing, and still be hungry. And skinny! WillowTheWhisp
I worked with a girl who never stopped eating from the moment she arrived in the morning until she left in the afternoon. She was constantly sucking sweets, eating crisps and biscuits etc. She was as thin as a rake.I'm overweight. I do not over eat. I am not greedy and I am not lazy. I get up at 5am most days and at the weekend I have a lie in until 7:30. I cannot do strenuous aerobic excercise due to a problem with my knees. I have struggled to lose weight for years and only now on a very unnatural liquid meal replacement am I making very slow progress in that direction, even so this last month I didn't manage to lose because I ate some real food. I didn't stuff my face like a pig but it's an easy cop-out for any slim person to imagine that I do and condemn me out of hand for sins of gluttony which they believe I have committed. It is very enlightening to know that because I have a weight problem this makes me a sinner. There must be some sinful GAs in the church in that case. Maybe somebody should tell them.
