Many think that Sabbath means Sunday.  I can understand the purpose in having a common Sabbath in a community of Saints but the truth is that Sabbath does not mean Sunday.  It is my understanding that we keep one day in seven as a covenant Sabbath.  I understand that Sunday is recommended but it is also my understanding that if because of work or an ox in the mire – that G-d is not offended if we devote another day to keep holy.  I also believe G-d is offended by his children that go on vacation with no intention of keeping any day as holy.

Yes, the Sabbath does not mean Sunday per se.  Rather, the Church designated Sunday as Sabbath day.

Now, you may decide you don't want to follow the Church's appointed Sabbath Day and choose Thursday instead.  That doesn't make Thursday your Sabbath.  It simply makes Thursday the day you decide to take a rest.

Sabbath is set aside not just for rest and spiritual reflection.  A major element of the Sabbath Day worship is communion with the saints and partaking of the sacrament.  You can't have communion with the saints and partake of the sacrament without the other saints.

Question - do you know what council was given to Steve Young from general authorities because most Sundays, during football season, required him to play football?

What counsel you mean?  You'll have to ask Steve Young.

I am sure that he attended as much as he could when he could.

I would quite seriously doubt that the brethren said anything to him at all. Why would they get involved?
