What conference talk really made you think?

i found the last talk, Bro Utchdorf's really made me think. I will be pondering his message of less fear about the events to come. Sometimes in my neck of the woods, we are quite frightened about signs of the times, we need to have more faith in the goodnesses of God.

Uchtdorf's for sure. It made me think first, about my upbringing and how I was taught to follow the Gospel. How to live in general, really. My mom has always lived by fear. Motivation of what will happen if she doesn't, more than why she'd want to or why it's a good idea. I've had to untangle  myself from that way of thinking. Second, it made me think of the people that are happiest in my life vs. the people who are most miserable. It's most definitely a case of mind over matter (mental illness mostly excepted). Circumstances don't matter so much as a determination to live in a state of hope, gratitude, and even joy.

I don't know which one spoke to me in particular, but I know the one that I thought was most pertinent to me and those around me in the world today.  With the encroaching temptations of the media, the wild surges of anger, frustration, and discord in the politics of our nation, and the wickedness of promiscuity, anti-religlion (much less anti-LDS) sentiment, and horrendous sin being promoted, I think the expression from our Prophet, President Monson was perhaps one of the most important items for this conference.  It was short, but very defining in how we should deal with the world that we are facing right now.  We need our own testimonies, and we need to make them strong against the world.  I felt this message was also reflected by Elder Cook as the final speaker this afternoon where he also emphasized the need for us to build our testimonies daily and even weekly to strengthen ourselves against the world and other things that we face in our lives.

I also felt an overall call to recommit to the things that build up our testimonies day by day, namely studying the Book of Mormon and earnest prayer.

Priesthood Session.  Elder Eyring's story about the drunk guy who crashed into the bank, and the resulting miracle that changed Elder Eyring's life.  At times, I've been able to approach that miracle with a lot of people.  And at other times I've struggled to just have an intellectual understanding that God sees people like that.

Yes, Elder Sabin's talk about being "all in" (the Gospel, I mean, not the weekly RS poker game).

Christoferson, Utchdorf and Holland.

Utchdorf: Don't fear have faith. Makes total sense-we can have a complete understanding of the evil, wickedness and problems that are surrounding us and becoming stronger (it is the latter days) but we ultimately know who wins.  Faith overcomes fear.

Holland: The Church is for everyone who is willing to love God and earnestly striving to do so.

Christoferson: We must be willing to speak out and stand for what's right and true, understanding sometimes being firm and unwavering in truth and right will be labeled as judgmental. Being a discipline of Christ requires speaking truth.

Missed you last week, btw.

Well, they rearranged the ward boundaries (all the wards in the stake), so there was a lot of work to be done - priorities, you know.  I should be there this week, though. ;)

I loved both of Uchtdorf's. It always feels like he specifically writes his conference talks with me in mind.
