Carborendum Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 https://adfmedia.org/press-release/pitt-officials-violate-first-amendment-rights-conservative-student-groups Summary: Conservative students who arranged a debate between two guest speakers. University officials encouraged liberal protests/riots against having the debate. The university is now demanding that the conservative club that arranged the debate to pay for the damage done by the rioters. Grunt and Backroads 2 Quote
Traveler Posted June 15, 2023 Report Posted June 15, 2023 This is not the intent of classical liberalism any more than Naziism is the ultimate expression of conservativism. As a proponent of Zion, I would hope that we find ways to bring peace to a turbulent world. The Traveler Quote
NeuroTypical Posted June 16, 2023 Report Posted June 16, 2023 Yeah, this isn't liberalism. It's woke leftist progressivism. Quote

I even suspect I can guess who some of them are. But I have yet to meet or hear from a self-professed liberal who is not on board with the overall agenda of the "leftist progressivism." True, they may say a word or two against some extreme behaviors. But then in the next breath they defend it twice as hard as they condemned it. And the only ones in the public eye that I've seen are Bill Maher, JK Rowling, and RFK Jr. Many others have changed sides politically over this. It dawned on me how different the two groups were, when I was hanging out with some leftist progressives, and we spent a full half hour agreeing on Hillary Clinton and the democrats in congress. There's a deep split in left-of-center politics and culture. The older crowd is more traditionally democratic and liberal, interested in traditional things like winning elections and forwarding socialist agendas. The younger crowd is full of despising capitalism and America's institutions, they hate democrats as sell outs and republicans as satan incarnate, they worship the idols of Historically-Marginalized-Underrepresented-Minorities and Transgender-Youth-Needing-Gender-Affirming-Healthcare. The liberals all talk a good game of being united with the progressives. They work hard to keep the progressives under the same umbrella. Progressives will continue to vote democrat, because while they hate democrats, they honestly do absolutely loathe and fear the right. Carborendum 1 Quote

That’s all true, but it’s also political nature. I’m assuring you that people on our side only vote republican because they absolutely loathe and fear the left. NeuroTypical 1 Quote

I'm in full agreement with your description of how leftists view liberals. But the problem with liberals is that they say with very little enthusiasm that they disagree with leftists (I got this from back channels). But when speaking with conservatives, oh-so-very-few actually say they agree with conservatives regarding the points where they disagree with leftists. They seem to fall all over themselves to try to cover for leftists. It has occurred to me that the individuals I know are pretty much all in Texas. Maybe that is influencing results of my sample size. I have a theory. Maybe most of the old school liberals who once upon a time hated conservatives actually agree that the left has gone too far. But they just can't bring themselves to admit it to the point where they would refuse to vote for a Democrat, or (gasp) actually vote for a Republican. So, to rectify this in their own minds, they just can't admit to it out loud, or else their beliefs would be incongruent with their actions. It's not like people don't do that (like almost everyone almost all the time). NeuroTypical 1 Quote
