From what I understand, it's nigh impossible for a native Japanese person to end a word with a consonant. Just certain consonants. We don't really understand how many vowels we simply "add" to a word when we pronounce them. Try saying the word "want". How do you pronounce the "t" without a little "uh" added to the end? The difference is that English speakers don't vocalize on that "uh". But Japanese will want to vocalize. So, they need to be taught how to shut off the vocalization and just exhale a touch. NeuroTypical
Yep. I'm not saying Japanese folks can't speak English, just that this is something with which many of them struggle as they learn. 16 minutes ago, Carborendum said: Try saying the word "want". I notice on my iphone, "wanna" is both something I can type quickly, and something voice recognition reproduces accurately. When my wife pronounces the "t" in want, it's usually because she's mad at me. "I don wanna go there right now." "I. Don't. Want. To. Go. There. Right. Now."
