I appreciate that the Church has made the magazines free for all members and I enjoy receiving them. But am I the only one who finds them a bit meh? I usually tend to read whatever GAs message is in the front, keep onto for a week and spend a bit of time flicking through the local pages. Then when I'm bored I'll toss it away and wait for next month's.

There is only a handful of articles in them which I genuinely enjoyed reading and remember. Am I perhaps taking what's supposed to be a simple supplementary material too seriously?

I agree w you.  It all seems “weak sauce” to me.

I’ve always thought that about Church magazines; but then every so often you stumble on some nugget online and find it’s from the 2015 Ensign or something.

I have a low tolerance for schmaltz, and I tend not to read Church magazines because they seem to tend to have a lot of it.  But I admit, I seem to miss out on a lot of pearls as a result.

During and after my mission, I enthusiastically read every Ensign I could get my hands on. By the time I was 40 or so, I had a complete collection of Ensigns going back to January 1971, the first issue. (I got rid of almost all of them about three years ago, when my wife insisted/begged that I do so. I kept the January 1971 edition, because it had a "flexidisc", a recording of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, as it was then called. One of these days, I will get my hands on a phonograph, carefully remove the flexidisc from the magazine, and play it.)

Sadly, I rarely read the Ensign or (now) the Liahona. I might be tempted to say that I don't have time for that, but the fact is that I don't make time for it. My loss.

IRL, there are days where I barely even get to the newspaper because of how much running around I do; the only paper I read when it comes out is the flagship for my columns, and even then I sometimes only have enough time to glance at them & make sure they ran and were the ones I'd scheduled *to* run that day.

I literally don't remember the last time I looked at any of the church magazines...
