Moksha Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 On second thought.... either what I just said, or..... God is exactly like conservative white western Americans. In which case I'd 'never' want to go to that heaven! It might be real pretty with the artificial turf covering where the strip mining had inflicted its damage. Quote
JohnBirchSociety Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Monumental climate change has occured throughout history and there is probably little we can do about it when it happens, but you still have not given a logical argument as to how that leads to the conclusion that it is impossible for us to instigate climate change and we therefore shouldn't worry about it.I agree with you to the extent that "environmentalism" is taken to wacky extremes in many places, but I believe you are alltogether too paranoid about "communism" and people trying to take away your rights.Absent total nuclear war, there is no human mechanism that would approach a global scale. CO(2)? Nope, the amount we contribute to the total atmospheric volume is so insignificant as to not be worth measuring. A single volcano spews more in a brief eruption than we do in a year, not to mention natural ocean emissions of such things as methane in proportions that we have no means of matching.Ozone depletion? Nope, the energy from the SUN combined with oxygen creates ozone, there is no means available to man to interrupt that process, absent the removal of oxygen from the system (which we are not capable of doing).Deforestation? Mmmm, certainly a problem in some locations. Globally? Nope. And especially in the US, where we have more trees now than we did 200 years ago.Temperature increases? Nope, no significant heating detectable. In fact, cooling has occurred in the past 4 years. Glacial melting? Nope, despite the lying of people such as Gore, Antartica has more ice now than in the recent past.Ocean Temperature increases? Nope. The Pacific Ocean temperatures have decreased as much as 4 degrees since last year.Oil spills? Nope, remember Exxon Valdez? All cleaned up. Remember the oil fields Sadamm destroyed? Recapped...And so the list goes on. There are no human caused global climate change mechanisms. It is all natural, and there is nothing we can do about it.I applaud conservation. I applaud reuse. I applaud use. I applaud exploiting of natural resources (responsibly, of course) to fuel human prosperity and civilization. There is no need for a global approach. For a moment, I'll suppose that there is a global problem. How will the failures of totalitarianism and collectivism solve those problems? How do systems that have shown themselves to be despotic, solve global crisis?Certainly not the communist dominated UN? The solution to the local / regional problems of our time is freedom. When man is left to act with liberty, great things occur. Certainly such a system is not perfect (Pittsburgh DID have bad air, but really due to the free market, but rather due to monopolistic greed that bought government favor)...We should be good stewards of all we have.By the way, communism is a very large threat to us all. The largest nation on earth is devoutly communist, and our avowed enemy, and nuclear capable.Communism is not dead. Putin is a communist butcher. And now we're going to have the Olympics in Communist China and celebrate their "greatness" in the opening ceremony? I wonder if they are going to portray the 61,000,000 people that Chairman Mao had murdered? We protest Carter meeting with the Hamas terrorists, yet we barely notice our current President meeting on a consistent basis with the largest sponsorers of terrorism in the world. Communist China.I don't fear it though. I loath it. Liberty will prevail. The price will be great, but liberty will prevail. Quote

JohnBirchSociety Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Okay the explanations pretty much answered my question...... it would appear to most LDS that 'stewardship' means pretty much stipping the land for everything it's worth, to heck with the potential consequences. Sort of the James Watt approach. Got it..... another reason to stay away from religions that worship conservative politics as much as they do God.I've no clue why you've responded this way.We must be good stewards of all we have. The way to do that is through liberty, not supra-national unelected elitists telling us how to live.In no way to I condone irresponsible, dangerous, greed. Quote
sgallan Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 be careful what you wish for...That is exactly what I wish for. I can't think of a worse place to spend eternity..... white conservative America and it's God.... yuck! Send me to fire and brimstone.... outer darkness..... anything but that heaven. Please, please, PLEASE! Funny, I had this conversation with my daughter and how many people think we will go to that kind of h*ll..... I told her I would "stock up on the s'mores". She said, "we'll get fat". I said, "we'll burn it off". Quote
Palerider Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 the Al Gore countdown is now 7yrs and 3 months...... Quote
sgallan Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 Yeah that ol' Al Gore... he is one powerful guy. Heck, he has Pelosi and Gingrich doing an add together about climate change. He has virtually all do the first world agreeing with him.... many in the second world too. He has money being spent thru legislation all over this country, and the world. He has people who hate us going along. That dude has some skills for a fat American Democrat as he has practically taken over the world. I am impressed. Those who disagree should feel stupid that you let somebody like Gore kick you political behinds. Quote
LDSgirl Posted April 24, 2008 Author Report Posted April 24, 2008 I poured a can of motor oil in the Provo river.I hope that you didn't do it on purpose!:( Quote
kona0197 Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 never fear...Al Gore cares.....we only have about 7yrs left before we burn up according to his time frame...:)NOT funny. The man has worked hard to educate people. It's too bad no one is paying attention. Quote

aruth5000 Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 I celebrated Earth Day by planting five pine trees! Did anyone else do anything special for this day?I planted flowers .. tulips to be exact yay! ... lol:D Quote
Misshalfway Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 Well, I am LDS and I care about the environment and the animals and the whole earth!! I am not sure if Global warming is completely accurate in its conclusions, but I can't see harm in taking steps to improve the way we interact with our planet. And while I found Al Gore's little show compelling, there are enough reputable people who disagree with his data. I think that the earth has its varied processes. I also think that some humans are very irresponsible in how they treat the earth. (COUGH!... Corporate America) I just watched "The Human Footprint." Pretty amazing how much American's (and others) consume and how much we throw away. Just learning about how plastic does not bio-degrade was eye-opening. I must say, I long for simpler times. Not that I would have any idea how to live like a Native American of the past, but they have such reverence for the earth. I love the idea of farmers markets (who knows what kinda chemicals we consume) and second hand stores and only using what we need. Reduce and simplify sorts of stuff. Quote
kona0197 Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 Well, I am LDS and I care about the environment and the animals and the whole earth!!So I can assume you do not pollute the Earth by driving when you really do not need to and recycle everything? Otherwise your statement is false. Quote

Fiannan Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 Photo posted at FreeRepublic.comI actually have always been a supporter of the environment but it seems many people who arecalling themselves environmentalists today are turning it into a religion. As for the picture above I’ll bet Sigmund Freud would say these young women’s desire to save “Mother Earth” is merely displased yearnings to become mothers themselves. Most enviro zealots have a pretty low birthrate so this becomes a vicious cycle — instead of becomming pregnant and satisfying maternal needs they project these feelings on animals. They become brainwashed to believe that having kids is bad for the environment so this pits their yearnings for children against their new “parental responsibility” to “save the earth”. This causes a great deal of pent up hostility to those who question them on their “sacrifice” yet their social circle will continually discourage childbearing. Thus, in the end, all you may have is a burned out crazy middle aged cat lady wearing Birkenstocks and showing up for earth day celebrations. Quote
godtakethaway Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 "Less Government, More Individual Responsibility, and, with GOD's help, a Better World"That is the appropriate means to prosperity for all.But based on the posts on this thread, the individual responsibility portion seems to be a little lacking. This is the same earth our children and grandchildren will have to live in, so for their sake I'd like to keep it as clean as possible. Quote
