Explain Temples, Please?
lilered replied to mhansen's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Temples are also a place of teaching and learning to build further understanding of Gods plan of salvation. -
That's okay Vort, I screwed up really bad myself once.

Is thinking outside the box, the same as thinking in a circular motion?

Might I suggest you fast and pray about this and ask the Lord for his guidance and blessing.

The Power of Alcohol A man is waiting for his wife to give birth. The doctor comes in and informs the dad that his son was born without torso, arms or legs. The son is just a head! But the dad loves his son and raises him as well as he can, with love and compassion. After 18 years, the son is now old enough for his first drink. Dad takes him to the bar, tearfully tells the son he is proud of him and orders up the biggest, strongest drink for his boy. With all the bar patrons looking on curiously and the bartender shaking his head in disbelief, the boy takes his first sip of alcohol. Swoooosh! Plop! A torso pops out! The bar is dead silent; then bursts into whoops of joy. The father, shocked, begs his son to drink again. The patrons chant, "Take another drink!" The bartender continues to shake his head in dismay . Swoooosh! Plip! Plop! Two arms pop out. The bar goes wild. The father, crying and wailing, begs his son to drink again. The patrons chant, "Take another drink! Take another drink!" The bartender ignores the whole affair and goes back to polishing glasses, shaking his head, clearly unimpressed by the amazing scenes. By now the boy is getting tipsy, but with his new hands he reaches down, grabs his drink and guzzles the last of it. Plop! Plip! Two legs pop out. The bar is in chaos. The father falls to his knees and tearfully thanks God. The boy stands up on his new legs and stumbles to the left then staggers to the right through the front door, into the street, where a truck runs over him and kills him instantly. The bar falls silent. The father moans in grief. The bartender sighs and says, * * (Wait for it.) * * * (It's coming.) * * (Ya ready?) * * * (Don't hate me!) * * * (Yer gonna hate me!) * * * (Take a deep breath) * * * " He should've quit while he was a head!"

I understand that when they met, Pres. Monson gave him (Obamas) family geneology in mulitple leather books. Now that would have been some interesting research, especially in light of the ongoing controversy over his citizenship.

Taken from childrens' responses at a Catholic School: They are hilarious. PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE WORDING AND SPELLING. IF YOU ARE EVEN REMOTELY FAMILIAR WITH HOLY SCRIPTURE, YOU'LL FIND THIS HILARIOUS! IT COMES FROM A ROMAN CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEST. KIDS WERE ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS. THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS ABOUT THE BIBLE WERE WRITTEN BY CHILDREN. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN RE-TOUCHED OR CORRECTED. INCORRECT SPELLING HAS BEEN LEFT IN. 1. IN THE FIRST BOOK OF THE BIBLE, GUINESSIS. GOD GOT TIRED OF CREATING THE WORLD SO HE TOOK THE SABBATH OFF. 2. ADAM AND EVE WERE CREATED FROM AN APPLE TREE. NOAH'S WIFE WAS JOAN OF ARK. NOAH BUILT AND ARK AND THE ANIMALS CAME ON IN PEARS. 3. LOTS WIFE WAS A PILLAR OF SALT DURING THE DAY, BUT A BALL OF FIRE DURING THE NIGHT. 4. THE JEWS WERE A PROUD PEOPLE AND THROUGHOUT HISTORY THEY HAD TROUBLE WITH UNSYMPATHETIC GENITALS. 5. SAMPSON WAS A STRONGMAN WHO LET HIM SELF BE LED ASTRAY BY A JEZEBEL LIKE DELILAH. 6. SAMSON SLAYED THE PHILISTINES WITH THE AXE OF THE APOSTLES. 7. MOSES LED THE JEWS TO THE RED SEA WHERE THEY MADE UNLEAVENED BREAD WHICH IS BREAD WITHOUT ANY INGREDIENTS . 8, THE EGYPTIANS WERE ALL DROWNED IN THE DESSERT. AFTER WARDS, MOSES WENT UP TO MOUNT CYANIDE TO GET THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. 9. THE FIRST COMMANDMENTS WAS WHEN EVE TOLD ADAM TO EAT THE APPLE. 10. THE SEVENTH COMMANDMENT IS THOU SHALT NOT ADMIT ADULTERY. 11. MOSES DIED BEFORE HE EVER REACHED CANADA . THEN JOSHUA LED THE HEBREWS IN THE BATTLE OF GERITOL .. 12. THE GREATEST MIRICLE IN THE BIBLE IS WHEN JOSHUA TOLD HIS SON TO STAND STILL AND HE OBEYED HIM. 13. DAVID WAS A HEBREW KING WHO WAS SKILLED AT PLAYING THE LIAR. HE FOUGHT THE FINKELSTEINS, A RACE OF PEOPLE WHO LIVED IN BIBLICAL TIMES. 14. SOLOMON, ONE OF DAVIDS SONS, HAD 300 WIVES AND 700 PORCUPINES. 15. WHEN MARY HEARD SHE WAS THE MOTHER OF JESUS, SHE SANG THE MAGNA CARTA. 16. WHEN THE THREE WISE GUYS FROM THE EAST SIDE ARRIVED THEY FOUND JESUS IN THE MANAGER. 17. JESUS WAS BORN BECAUSE MARY HAD AN IMMACULATE CONTRAPTION. 18. ST. JOHN THE BLACKSMITH DUMPED WATER ON HIS HEAD. 19. JESUS ENUNCIATED THE GOLDEN RULE, WHICH SAYS TO DO UNTO OTHERS BE FORE THEY DO ONE TO YOU. HE ALSO EXPLAINED A MAN DOTH NOT LIVE BY SWEAT ALONE.. 20. IT WAS A MIRICLE WHEN JESUS ROSE FROM THE DEAD AND MANAGED TO GET THETOMBSTONE OFF THE ENTRANCE. 21. THE PEOPLE WHO FOLLOWED THE LORD WERE CALLED THE 12 DECIBELS. 22. THE EPISTELS WERE THE WIVES OF THE A POSTLES. 23. ONE OF THE OPPOSSUMS WAS ST. MATTHEW WHO WAS ALSO A TAXIMAN. 24. ST. What are the purposes of trials and suffering?

D&C: Sec. 76 81 And again, we saw the glory of the telestial, which glory is that of the lesser, even as the glory of the stars differs from that of the glory of the moon in the firmament. 82 These are they who received not the gospel of Christ, neither the testimony of Jesus. 83 These are they who deny not the Holy Spirit. 84 These are they who are thrust down to hell. 85 These are they who shall not be redeemed from the devil until the last resurrection, until the Lord, even Christ the Lamb, shall have finished his work. 86 These are they who receive not of his fulness in the eternal world, but of the Holy Spirit through the ministration of the terrestrial; 87 And the terrestrial through the ministration of the celestial. 88 And also the telestial receive it of the administering of angels who are appointed to minister for them, or who are appointed to be ministering spirits for them; for they shall be heirs of salvation. 89 And thus we saw, in the heavenly vision, the glory of the telestial, which surpasses all understanding; 90 And no man knows it except him to whom God has revealed it. -
I'm not so sure? Define Pinko!

What are the purposes of trials and suffering?

Think of it like this: For those of us who are satisfied to live our life here on earth as we are, do not repent, and die in our sins, we will inherit the earth as we now know it, Telestial Glory. For those of us who are honorable people "who were blinded by the craftiness of men, not valiant in our testimony of Jesus, and may have rejected the gospel while living will inherit the Terrestial Glory. The Celestial Glory - is what we all should strive for so that we can indeed be with God and Jesus Christ and have all blessings afforded to us that are possible, which includes being Kings and Queens etc.. So rather than stress, we replace this feeling with desire for the very best we can achieve for ourselves and our loved ones and do our part to ensure that this happens. -
Ryanh: I would suggest that you take this whole thing one step and one day at a time. Assuming your husband understands that he needs to make the effort to regain your trust, hopefully he understands that this will be a process and will happen over time. I would suggest you ask him once to start attending church with you as a family, you start having family prayer and kneeling together as a couple, that you hold family home evenings, etc.. Realizing that this may take a few weeks to get implemented. The point is that this cousel is from the General Authorities and strengthens families. If he is willing, and does it with a pure heart, it should slowly start to rebuild the trust between you. Likewise, you may need to work on some issues at the same time. The main thing is stay close to the Lord, be obediant to his commandments, and ask for his blessings upon both of you and your family. Time and the Spirit will tell and heal wounded hearts

Just a thought: Often times throughout Christiantity, the Lord has spoken through Prophets to civilian leaders. Example: Moses talking with Pharoh. If Pres. Monson, is inspired by the spirit to offer President Obama counsel, he will be held accountable if he chooses not to follow it. The Lords word is not spoken lightly.

I may be out on a limb here, but I don't think he is looking to date a new boyfriend!

lost87 - I would suggest to you, that if a Diciplinary Counsel is indeed called, and you have the opportunity to confess, that you indeed cleanse your sould so that you can proceed knowing that you have held nothing back and progress with a clean slate. Remember these courts/counsels are really made up of righteous men with loving spirits and are done so with your best interests at heart and are guided by the Spirit.

Of course it is. Our government officials are honest forthright representatives of "We The People" and would never lie to us, would they? After all, the majority of the voters wanted change and voted for the candidate of their choice who would bring change. So, how is all this change working out for "We The People"?

I've noticed a large percentage of LDS women whose first names begin with P, have this disorder? But maybe this personal study of mine needs further subjects?

While I am not a Lawyer, I did stay at a Hoiday Inn Express. First I would recommend you draft a letter to both your Bishop and Stake President. I would not give too many details but let them know you feel harrassed and wish to be allowed to attend another ward. I would also let them know that you intend on seeking counsel from a Lawyer concerning the filing of a Restraining Order on the individual. Second, I woudl also include a request that your personal information including your phone and address not be given out under any circumstances including ward membership lists. Third: I would get a different phone number (Unplublished). Fourth: Seek the benefit of Legal Counsel concering a restraining order. Good Luck

lost87, just a thought based on a little expierence and wisdom. Perhaps your Bishop is somewhat perplexed as to how to help you? Just for arguements sake, suppose he has counseled with you and made several suggestions to help you. However either you haven't devoted suffiecent time and/or energy to do them and give them a chance to work? While I have no way of knowing your circumstances nor do I need to, it does take time to and hard work to progress and foresake bad habits and/or addictions and sins. God will always listen to your pleas but you likewise have to be willing to listen to the promptings of the spirit and Gods answers may not happen as fast as you would like. I would suggest you take one hour, day, etc. at a time and feel free to discuss all of this with your Bishop. He has the keys and the power of God to help you, but it does take a lot of effort on your part.

Several years ago while serving in the Bishopric, our Bishop called me on Fast Sunday at home in the afternoon and ask me to get some old work clothes on and be ready in 15 minutes to help a Brethren. He and the other counselor picked me up and we all went over to an inactive Brethrens house for the purpose of roofing his house. It seems like the Bishop had visited this member and ask him to return to church but was given the excuse that it would be impossible for him to until he got his new home closed in before winter (He was building his family a home by himself, while they lived in a small trailer). So the Biship prayed about it and decided to install the roof on the house with our help. In return, the brethren promised the Bishop he would start coming to church. We got the roof shingled by evening and the next week, the inactive brethren started attending church on a regular basis. Eventually, this same Brethren was installed in the Bishopric and is presently serving as a Sealer in the Temple. Some may take issue with doing such an activity as this on the Sabbath. I know I was somewhat surprised to be asked to particpate, but I learned from this that when one is in the service of his fellow man, he is also in the service of God. The Bishop had this mans interest at heart and was able by inspiration to find a way to reactive a lost sheep.

How else would one appreciate the good if not to also expierence the bad? Part of our learning while we are here on earth is to be tested and to gain expierence. Part of that expierence is to expierence trials and tribulations just as it is to expierence good and joy. -
Another thought that came to my mind concerning this subject. Take the case of a spouse being married before, divorced or their spouse died, and then remarries say in their senior years. What earthly good would it do to know the details of every relationship either of them had prior to their marriage? Each knows of the prior marriage, each knows that the spouse was not a virgin, etc.. In my view, no earthly good would come out of knowing those type of details. What should matter is how happy they can make in the years they have left.
