Heavy Metal Band blamed for inspiring schoolboy stabbing
debi56 replied to susieSA's topic in Current Events
I believe people are responsible for their own actions but I also feel that the entertainment business has a responsibility to the people that listen to them. I know that sex, drugs, crime etc. sells for people but isn't this also part of the reason we aren't supposed to watch R- rated movies? I am sure that boy was already disturbed and should not be able to use a scapegoat but at the same time, these idiots that create the music and movies need to think about what kind of an influence they have on our youth. -
One of my favorites is "The Touch of the Masters Hands", I also love Saturdays' Warriors, and Rigoletto
-
How long do these movies have to be? I know of some good ones but they are only about 1/2 hour long.

I had been told that his resurrection was the first, but in Relief Society today they talked abotu the plan of salvation and she went through the order of things, but she had on her timeline that the first resurrection would happen later. I also was somewhat confused about it. My Patriarchal blessing says that I will come forth in the morning of the first resurrection so I assumed it would come later. Thanks for clearing that up for me. It makes much more sense now.

I think that if it weren't for bodily functions, balding heads, needing dentures, arthritis, depends, children, cellulite, etc. We might not look forward to returning to our heavenly home. I keep thinking I look toward the day when I won't have any of that to deal with. No bloating, full head of hair, teeth, being able to walk without hurting, perfect eyesight, perfect hearing, no wearing a pillow for incontinence, noisy and bratty kids, and that all over orange peel look. Can you think of any other incentive to look toward eternity.

I have heard 2 different explanations. I was told that the first resurrection happened when Christ was resurrected because it states that the graves were opened, but then again the first resurrection is mentioned later on. So I would like some feedback about this subject, thanks.

I didn't see it, my son saw it and he said it was hard to watch. I have a hard time watching the old biblical movies where Christ is crucified. I know I couldn't watch "The passion of Christ". I would probably get physically ill from bering upset and I'd cry for a long time.

Thanks Tom, I appreciate all that you have shared. I went and witnessed my neices baptism today. Everyones' eyes were dry except mine. The spirit was so strong for me and witnessed to me of how true all of this is. I don't normally cry at baptisms but today was so different. It was a wonderful feeling to know that each person that goes into the waters of baptisms are beautiful spirits in an earthly form. As I said, thank you.

Thank you Keith, That is a wonderful story. My husband was subjected to a lot of anti-mormon literature. In his church they showed the movie the "Godmakers" and he was made to believe that the B of M was based on evil principles. This line of thinking has been upsetting to me, he started to read it one time but he was looking for fault and so of course he found it. All I really want him to do is see it from another side, a more honest side and then judge unfortunately he is set that on what his head has been filled with. He doesn't stop me from going to church and even our chlildren are baptised in the LDS church but he doesn't want any part of it.

I ask only because my husband is Baptist and I wanted some advice on how to get my husband to read the Book of Mormon. Thanks.

Hi, I noticed that under your name it says investigator for life. Some people are members that are never quite converted like me until now and some are truly investigators. So which are you? If you are not a member then can I ask what religion you are?
-
Yes it is wonderful, and I get goose bumps from it. It is really bloody but the history that those pages hold are amazing. I can picture what was happening as I read it. I am sold on it completely.

Until recently I also believed I was unworthy for anything positive. I read "Believing Christ", and it was a real turning point for me. For us to reject the sacrifice that Jesus made for us is like saying what he did doesn't matter. He died for every single person on this earth that was, is and will be. For me to understand this, I had to put it in personal terms that I could relate to. I thought about the times I had done something for my kids, something special, nothing they asked for but I did it just to make them happy. When I would present it to them, and they would refuse it, it would hurt me. Now I can understand the atonement. I wonder how many times Jesus has wept when one of us has refused the sacrifice. Don't let Satan make you feel that you are not worthy enough to accept the gift of the atonement. We are all G ds' children and so we are all heirs to what he has. We are all of royal births. We are princes and princesses. Each person that feels unworthy and doesn't accept this gift, Satan laughs and thrills over one more soul he believes he has kept down. Remember "Misery loves Company".

I anm reading the Book of Mormon and am enjoying it immensely. I have been a member all my life but grew up on bible stories. I forget that the BofM is scripture and so to me it is a wonderful history book, which it is. My problem is that we are told that if we adhere to the concepts in it we will draw closer to the Lord. So far I haven't found any concepts that makes the B of M any different than the Bible. I am really puzzled, am I looking for more than what is there? I have read the B of M 2 other times but never before has it been so appealing to me. I have a hard time putting it down and can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would have a hard time reading it. I am about chapter 11 in Mosiah. I pray about reading it, but so far haven't read anything that would make it so profound. Like I said, I love the book and am learning some wonderful history about our great country but am I missing the spiritual picture here?

God's Problem Now When the graveside service had no more than terminated, There was a tremendous burst of thunder accompanied by a distant lightning bolt and more rumbling thunder. The little old man looked at the pastor and calmly said, 'Well, she's there.'

Well I don't know if it is the rich side, you must be talking about Vashon or Bainbridge Island. LOL no, I am in the armpit of Washington State, Bremerton.

PrisonChaplain: I am across the water from you....... We are neighbors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love this kind of stuff, it does my heart good when a non-LDS person has nothing but good things to say about the church. That was great.

Not another polygamy thread! (sigh)

David was given many wives and concubines and he was given so much but he lusted for Bathsheba, and even plotted Uriahs' murder so he could have her. As was said earlier, he wasn't happy with what he had, and commited several serious sins so that he could have her. From what I understand is that polygamy was necessary in the early days of the church to raise up seed in the religion. Only the righteous men were allowed to have multiple wives, and I believe that the first wife had to give her permission as to who the husband married. I can't imagine what that was like for Emma, nor for the men who had to support all those wives and children. Can you imagine a house full of women with PMS? -
My little sister named her last child, "Hyrum Joseph" and no one has had a problem with it. Name your child what you like, after hearing names like Moon Unit Zappa and Dweezil Zappa, I think Society can deal with Nehpi. Besides he is being named after a wonderful person in history.

Yes I believe in ghosts or hauntings. Levitation, it says that with faith we could move mountains. Telepathy, not sure.
