Utah school requires girls to say "Yes" to all boys who ask them to dance.
Maureen replied to a topic in Current Events
That is definitely more clear in what you meant. And yes I think it was a mistake on the part of the school to initially make that rule. My understanding from reading another article is that the rule to say "yes" was for boys too. All students had dance cards and they listed on their cards who they would like to dance with. Although I will say that school dances are not set up to introduce romance to pre-teens and teenagers; they are just an all around social function for everyone. M. -

@prisonchaplain, what exactly do you think is creepy? School dances are normal school activities, they are really not that complicated. I remember my first school dance in junior high (grade 7/12 years old) and it was fun and definitely not creepy. Could it be your religious ideas that sees dancing as somewhat sinful (don't know what other word to use) that gives you that impression? And like mentioned before, school dances do not equate to dating. M. -

Dancing is not a subject you take in school, it is a social activity for fun - or at least it should be for fun. M. -

A dance at school is not equivalent to dating. And it seems the school has changed this rule now due to all the parental complaining; which is good. M. -

I think this school is making a mistake. By not giving the girls the right to choose for themselves who they want to dance with does not necessarily promote inclusivity. It just takes away their right to choose. Teach kids why it's important for everyone to want to choose to be kind to others, to everyone. Forcing kids to be inclusive and kind is not authentic, it's not real kindness - it's forced. M. -
I know someone whose son served in Australia (Mandarin speaking I think) and he met his future wife 8 months before he went home. She was an Investigator and did get baptized but I don't know if he was the one who baptized her. She was going to school in Australia. Four months after he got home he contacted her and asked her to visit him in Canada. She came for a few months, they both went to China to visit her family, got engaged there and married in Canada a few months later. They are expecting their 3rd child. M.

The quote should be in a box. You would add your reply outside of that box. Do those quotes come up in a box? M. -

...Beginning in 1902, a general authority of the LDS Church, B. H. Roberts, was commissioned by the First Presidency to work through History of Joseph Smith and correct errors, add corroborative material, improve the narrative, and provide commentary on the events. Roberts's extensive revision of the work resulted in it being republished by church-owned Deseret Book between 1902 and 1912 as the seven-volume History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The work soon became nicknamed the Documentary History of the Church, a usage which has only recently been abandoned by Mormon historians. Today, the work is published in essentially the same form created by Roberts. Deseret Book currently publishes the work in paperback under the shortened title History of the Church.... ...History of Joseph Smith was initially published as an official publication of the LDS Church. Although Roberts's History of the Church has never been granted "official history" status, it nonetheless is widely used in the church and is often cited in the sermons and magazine articles written by general authorities and other church leaders. In 1851, extracts from what would become History of Joseph Smith were published in a church publication entitled Pearl of Great Price.[citation needed] This book was canonized by the LDS Church on October 10, 1880. The portion of History of Joseph Smith that was canonized consists of Smith's recitation of events between his birth in 1805 and May 1829 and is officially entitled Joseph Smith–History. Although History of the Church is no longer an official publication, it is the most-cited source in two histories of the church which are official publications of the LDS Church: Our Heritage: A Brief History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Church History in the Fulness of Times.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Church_(Joseph_Smith) M.

Do you mean "do not believe that baptism is required for salvation"? ? M.

@Matthias7, I'm not sure but I think most Evangelical (particularly Pentecostal) churches will baptize an individual when that individual themselves requests it. Baptism is a demonstration of faith for many denominations. A parent usually can't get a child baptized unless the child wishes to be baptized. I'm assuming your oldest child requested baptism themselves. I would ask your wife's pastor how his church practices baptism, what are the requirements for baptism. M.

Not every man feels guilty about not being able to buy a ring he can't afford and not every woman is jewelry crazy. It is possible to purchase a ring that won't bankrupt the guy and still make the gal happy. M.

But you said "...I just don't get why we are the only religion that's required to modify what we do...", implying that you think there are other religions doing things you disapprove of and only the Mormon religion is being picked on. That's how I read it. So you're really saying that even if other religions are doing things you do not approve of, they should be left alone do to as they please, just like the Mormon church should be left alone do to as they please (with regards to baptisms for the dead). M.

Can you give an example of any other religion that you feel should modify what they do because it annoys other people? M.

We can speculate that this great storm has been occuring for possibly 400 years. The link I am providing says the Jupiter storm might last another 10 to 20 years. Can you provide a source for your information? http://www.businessinsider.com/jupiter-great-red-spot-death-2017-7 M.
