  1. When ever I hear anything about the Obama Administration I remember the Bill Cosby sketch about the car. "Some boys leave just enough gas in the car so that their father's run out of gas starting it up. That's how dumb some boys think their fathers' are. You think I'm so dumb, that I'm going to get in this car close the door and say, 'Oh my *** I ran out of gas closing the door!'"
  2. I'm going to be a dad soon should be sometime in July. It's a baby girl.
  3. No Mormonism is too widespread to be destroyed by a victor in a war.
  4. What I don't get is how people can be so dumb to just dismiss this stuff and continue on with their lives as if everything is right with the government.
  5. Hahaha. I'm not counting on much happening on 2012. It's such an obvious date. You think Christ would actually return on a date people are prepared for? He's supposed to come as a thief in the night when people aren't watching, isn't he.
  6. I married a girl from my mission(Philippines). She was from an area next to my last area. She was in the district relief society presidency and visit our branch when I first saw her. Now lets see how this factors into the whole missionary thing. It was towards the end of my mission and she came to our branch on sunday. I was conversing with a little kid and and I looked up and saw her talking to some other people. As soon as I saw her it was as if I heard a voice that said, "She's the one." I went and talked to her just to see who she was and that was about it. I only saw her a couple times before going home. A member gave her phone number the night before I left for the mission home. After returning home I called her and she didn't even remember me. Long story short we went through two and a half years of dating through the internet and getting government paperwork done. During our 2-1/2 year dating period we only spent three months together. We got married Oct 2008. So I didn't date her or court her while I ws on my mission. But I was attracted to her and thought about her occasionally. But my thinking about her wasn't something that was significant. In the Philippines they use their first names after Brother/Sister instead of last names. Dravin is a biblical name? hehehe.
  7. Well technically the cell is alive at fertilization. If it was not the babay could not develop. But I think the question was meant as when does the spirit enter the body. I selected other. I don't believe the Spirit enters the body of the child until birth. But I also think that the Spirit is often close by during pregnancy. It can influence it's future body. But I think the spirit also leaves to perform other tasks during this time in preparation for it's entry into the world.
  8. I too was born in the LDS faith. I've researched other religions but never really with the intent of finding a replacement for my current religion. I'm not one of those that believe you have to try different things to determine if they are right for you or not. I don't have to try out homosexuality to know that I'm not homosexual. I don't have to drink poison to know that it is poisonous. The means I used to determine that the church is true for me is to test aspects of it. I've had very strong experiences with fasting and other aspects of the church. I've never had a period of inactivity or major doubt. Maybe that's good maybe it's bad, but so far for me it's been good. I believe the church is true, but I don't believe that it is the perfect church for everyone. I think that God will bring people to churches that are best for the progression of that person.
  9. mikbone: So then did Christ have any of Mary's DNA? If Christ did not have her mortal DNA how do you reconcile the fact that mortal DNA was needed for Christ to be able to suffer and die. If Christ was 100% immortal then he would not be able to die and not be able to suffer.
  10. Whatever the current living prophet tell us is what God wants us to do. Even if the modern prophet comes out as says something completly opposite of what the previous prophet said we nee dto foolw what the living prophet says. Because the living prophet tells us what God wants us to do right now. You can see this in the example above about the Law of Moses. So the real question is why would God require things of one group fo people and other things of another group of people.
  11. Well you would also have to bring up how God can reproduce. Is it through the same way our imperfect physical bodies do? If so then Mary was probably not a virgin. But since we do not know the exact process then it is entirely possible there is a way that does not involve the same physical process we mortals use.
  12. So God's domain is not the whole universe? So if I traveled to another planet I would encounter a different God? Maybe I'm mis-reading your post. Hmmm. Interesting idea.
  13. Holy Cow there's so much good stuf in this thread! BUt about the more women/men than men/women in heaven, I'll throw a monkey wrench in your gears. We must also consider all the other planets in the universe. Surely the council in heaven wasn;t only for "earthlings" but for the inhabitants of every planet in God's universe. THere are just so many things we don't know that there is no way to pin down a specific reason for most things. We just have to trust in God. Also I think the idea of adoption has merit. We know that God did not create us. We existed as intelligences before becoming God's spirit children. So got did not create us but adopted us Also if we existed as an entity before becoming Spirit children. Our "birth" as spirit children somehow involves: 1. The formation of our Spirit Body 2. The "entrance" of us as intelligence into the Spirit Body. So to know if there is any gestation we would need to know how a spirit body is formed. Is it formed how a physical body is formed? Or does Heavenly Father and Mother shape it out of spirit matter? Or do they activate the "Spirit Body-o-Matic"? Personally I don't think how many wives one has determines how fast a person can create infinite number of spirit children. Remeber we are dealing with eternity. In eternity there is no time. There is no faster or sooner. Our application of time to eternity is irrelevant because the nature of eternity is one without time.
  14. Modern Tagalog uses the same letters as english. Here's a sample: Pupunta ako sa tindahan. Kunti lang ang pera ko. Malapit ang pwesto namin. Befoer the Spanish arrived in the Philippines they had their own alphabet called the Alibata or Baybayin.
  15. You're right. polygamy was not an easy thing to do. I don't want it to sound like polygamy would be rainbows, sunshine, and sweet smelling flowers. Marriage to only one women isn't even that. Maybe I'm not being realistic but I would think that it would be better(eternally) to have multiple women marry one righteous man than have those women each marry an unrighteous man who brings them down. Just thinking out loud here, but supposing polygamy had been continued in the church from when it was first instituted. Would we have "overcome" our cultural programing of each woman having her own husband? I mean in a culture where every woman is expected and expects to have her own husband it would be alot harder to introduce a plural marriage practice. But after many years would that culture chnage to where every woman is expected and expects to share her husband with other women. I wonder if those hurtful and painful feelings would be overcome.
  16. Philippines Baguio Mission/Philippines Laoag Mission Married to Pilipina(Fiancee Visa) Phil-Am daughter on the way!
  17. I think this is a very good reason for polygamy. Honestly I wish polygamy was still acceptable in the church(not refering to one wife dying and marrying another). I'm sorry if people get upset at me for saying this but honestly I do. While serving my mission in the Philippines I saw this over an over. There were way more righteous women than men. In one branch I served in there was the Branch President, us two missionaries, the branch president's teacher and decon aged sons, and about twenty women. Most of the women were not married. So they face the option of marrying an unworthy man(chances very likely) or waiting for a righteous men to marry(very reasonable but less likely). Another woman I knew didn't marry a member and committed suicide after her husband had an affair. Another woman had her husband (who was working in canda) break it off with her(they got married in the Phils and there is no divorce so technically they are still married). Now apperently she is a prostitute. there are tons more examples. Sure you can say that if these women were really righteous they would have worked through the situations better. I'm not saying the men are all to blame but how much better would it have been if they had a righteous husband. So for me I wish there was polygamy so that righteous women in the Philippines(which by far outnumber the righteous men) could have a righteous husband. Even if it wasn't me they were married to, they deserve something better than what they have right now. Of course it would be a nightmare if I could marry more than one woman and they were from the Philippines. The government fees and immigration paper work for my one wife was insane. I'd go insane if I had to do it for more than one woman. I'm sorry if this makes me unrighteous or a bad person. They need rightous men so badly and I wish I could do more. But having said that I did marry a Filipina and we are happily married. She is pregnant with our first child, a daughter. So while I wish I could do more, I am more than happy to be a righteous husband for my wife. I'm working to be the best I can be for her. Since we have been married Oct 08 I have become much more responsible, and I have a long way to go. I'm thankful for the opportunity to be married to such a wonderful woman. At least I can be a righteous husband to her. I asked here once what she where she would be now if we hadn't gotten married. She said she probably would be living in Manila(she's not from there). She also said she probably would not have married in the temple neither woud her husband have been a member. I hope my wife doesn't read this or I might get in trouble. hehehe
  18. God had to make Adam and Eve with immortal bodies. If God made Adam and Eve with mortal bodies he would have been punishing them for something they never did. But they had to become mortal to bear any children. By forbidding then to eat the fruit of the tree he was being a loving God. If not, he would have been approving of them being punished for commiting no wrong. Eating the fruit casued a change in their body that made them mortal.
  19. So let say there is a boyfriend and girlfriend. They have been dating for a while. However before the man could propose or they could get married in the temple the girl dies. Could the man get sealed to his dead girlfriend? Since she would probably be over 18 would parental permission be required? Just question I've had pop into my mind every now and then.
  20. In my opinion This same situation is applicable to all worlds in this universe. The Council in Heaven wasn't made up of only God's children that came to this Earth. It was made up off all of God's children regardless of which world they would eventually go to in the universe. Jesus CHrist is the Saviour of all worlds in this universe. Satan it the temptor of all worlds in the universe. No. I beleieve the rib thing is metaphorical. Although I'm not sure what the symbolism is supposed to represent. Perhaps it is the remnant of an ancient form of symbolism that was lost ages ago. But Adam and Ev could not have had children. Their bodies were incapable of reproducing. It was part of God's plan that Adam and Eve become mortal and leave the Garden. But to force mortality on Adam and Eve would have made God an unjust God. So it had to be something they chose.
  21. My Patriarchal Blessing seems to say I will witness it both while in this life and after I die. Maybe it's just the wording but it sure seems like that. I'll have to read it again. Anyway, my money is on April 6, 2030. Two thousand years from the begining of Christ's ministry and two hundred years from the founding of the restored Church. Now I know that no mand knows when it will be but that doesn't mean somebody wont guess the right day.
  22. In order to hold a sacrament meeting or simply administer the sacrament you need the permission from local bishop. Now my question. I'm sure there has been an answer to this before but I don't remember it. Say a group of members somehow get maroon on a island or lost in the mountains. Let's also say that this group is able to survive easy. Like a Gilligan's island scenerio. Now there is no bishop in the group only a couple elders or something. This group has no means of contacting a bishop to get permission to have the sacrament. Can this group partake of the sacrament or must they wait for months or years before being rescued? Obviously this is a highly unlikely circumstance. But I'm curoius as to the protocol. What if some of the group wanted to get married, obviously they couldn't have a temple marriage, but would permission from the group be enough to constitute a legal marraige? Remember Gilligan's Island scenerio, survival is not an issue, plenty of food and shelter.
  23. No I don't think so. He leads and guides those who choose to seek his will and listen......he sends Prophets to help us navigate the seemingly complex decisions like abortion, gay marriage, etc......and yet many still ignore and choose to decide and justify there decisions based on the world's standards. Great post!
  24. Good question. I think God sees the future. I think God would allow events to happen that would bring inspiration to people to vote a certain way. They still have their choice to vote. But God gives people inspiration.
