Anti-Hoarding Laws and Food Storage..
ADoyle90815 replied to KristofferUmfrey's topic in General Discussion
I think that law is mostly to deal with those who have compulsive hoarding, which is a form of OCD. Compulsive hoarding - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This is more than just having extra food and other preparedness items around. -
I'll go to church either late Christmas Eve or in the morning on Christmas Day. We'll have a brunch as well as dinner in the evening.

The thing to do would be to show her unconditional love as Christ would do.

Oh for crying out loud, take your kid out of the chapel.

Obviously, a baby cooing or a child giggling is not "noise" at all, as one could still hear the speaker in church over that. It's the 2 year old who is having a tantrum that causes a distraction, or the child running down the aisles bumping into those passing the sacrament items. Most churches have a separate cry room where the service can be heard through speakers, yet nobody is distracted by a tantrum. Unfortunately, not all parents are teaching their children how to behave in church or in restaurants. -
That's actually something that happens in other churches as well.

Here's a good one for both fans of Star Wars and Phantom of the Opera: YouTube - Star Wars: The Musical

I think that unions are needed to make sure that no pro-labor laws such as a minimum wage and basic workplace safety regulations are repealed.

I love The Gloucestershire Wassail, which goes back to the middle ages. Chorus: "Wassail, wassail all over the town Our toast it is white and our ale it is brown Our bowl it is made of the white maple tree With our wassailing bowl, we'll drink to thee."

Words of Wisdom?
ADoyle90815 replied to mustang90's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
All I know is that as a whole, Seventh Day Adventists have the longest life span in the US. One reason is that not only do they avoid alcohol, they don't eat meat. They also observe the Sabbath, which for them is on Saturday. -
Anybody else feel this way about Christmas?
ADoyle90815 replied to skylercollins's topic in General Discussion
One other thing is that Christmas really means the Mass of Christ, and was originally a day when everyone went to church for a special celebration of Christ's birth. If you really wanted to celebrate the true meaning of the day, then it would be a good idea not to put up a tree as that was originally a pagan tradition. I think it's likely that Christ was born in the spring, but since a different calendar was used back then, it's hard to determine the exact month He was born. -
Works required for Christ's grace?
ADoyle90815 replied to tiancum's topic in Christian Beliefs Board
Works alone are not enough for salvation, first you have to have faith. Faith can lead to people doing good works because it's what Christ would do. -
Doping kids -- it's time to question the practice.

Mental illnesses such as depression and ADD/ADHD for example, are legitimate illnesses much as diabetes and cancer are. You hopefully wouldn't tell someone not to get treated for cancer because it would prevent them from "feeling the spirit" yet that's what people often say to those with a mental illness. There's no "spiritual" deficiencies that cause these, and for many people, getting treatment actually helps them to feel spiritual. The reason why I feel this way is that I have the gene for depression, and antidepressants saved my life 8 years ago. Now, I combined the medication with therapy which is what caused it to go away and I have been antidepressant-free for 6 years. When I was at my worst, no amount of prayer, Bible reading, or church attendance could have helped me feel spiritual. With treatment, I was able to feel God's love, and I still do to this day. -
Every generation has believed that morals were in decline, and it's no different today. That goes for music as well as forms of entertainment such as books or plays. Epidemics of disease, famines, and other disasters were blamed on people living sinful lives. I'm not a fan of censorship, if you are offended by something in movies, then don't watch those particular movies. There are plenty of Christian and LDS films out there to see. One can also find books written by LDS and Christian authors that are very clean, either online or at specialty bookstores.

Some stores did give wristbands to people waiting in line or had extra security and there were no problems with the crowd. I don't shop on Black Friday, I usually wait until the Sunday after to begin my shopping, as I'm not LDS.

Definitely not, as terrorists don't distinguish between Democrat or Republican, they hate all Americans and our allies.

This is also something that probably isn't good for a LDS website, but I brew beer and mead(honey wine) as a hobby. It's legal at least where I live as long as you don't make over 100 gallons in a year, be at least 21, and never sell it. I also spin fiber, knit, and do different forms of braiding cords, so I'm a bit of a fiber geek. I do embroidery as well, and I made a cross-stitched blanket for my niece which became my gift for her Catholic baptism when she was 5 months old. I also love to read and collect books, as I have several bookcases that are full. Right now, I'm reading Escape by Carolyn Jessop about her life in the FLDS polygamist group. It's obvious that they're not part of the mainstream LDS church because in addition to polygamy, they drink coffee.

I'm not LDS, so I would say that the water would be enough to make it valid. If your local leaders won't budge, then you could bring gluten free bread.

I don't have a "theme" when I decorate as when I was growing up, my grandma gave me an ornament for my birthday since it's close to Christmas. My tree might look chaotic, but most of those ornaments have sentimental value. The only thing I do with paper is origami, and I would rather have a root canal without anesthesia than do things like make a popcorn garland or even do scrapbooking.

First of all, the tannins in tea and coffee are the same thing as found on grape skins, so there's another reason why LDS are told not to consume those things. I myself use coffee in chocolate on a regular basis, as I love the flavor. Then again, I'm not LDS so I never made the commitment to give up coffee, tea, or alcohol. I never smoked, but that's because I realized on my own that tobacco is dangerous. With coffee, you have to brew it in some form even for cooking because the beans are still grainy after grinding. It might be best to leave coffee out of cooking if it concerns you.
