All I know is that in other churches, women such as myself often wear nice slacks instead of dresses or skirts. I think that's frowned upon in the LDS church because when I've driven past one on a Sunday, I've noticed the women were wearing dresses or skirts.

They also have billboards up in my area. Those billboards are expensive, so churches in general don't use them to advertise, and that includes the LDS church. In fact, there hasn't been a LDS commercial on in my area for many years now.

Can I get my LDS neighbors to be kind?

One thing I do know is that California recently made it illegal to leave a dog tied up like that all the time. I guess the main thing to do is to keep calling Animal Control about the situation. -
I think there are some people who use their critical thinking skills, but it's not being used as often as it really should. We're given a brain for a reason, to use it and critical thinking is one way to use our brains.

This smiley basically describes what algebra was like for me in school.

If you can, it might be nice to check out other wards, as in other churches, if you find that one congregation isn't right for you, you can go to a different church in your area that you like better that's part of the same denomination.

New Reality Show: Someone's Gotta Go
ADoyle90815 replied to applepansy's topic in General Discussion
I think that's disgusting. Then again, I have never been a fan of reality shows, including Dancing With The Stars and American Idol. -
Those of us who are not LDS are not bound by the rule against drinking coffee or tea, but I would offer alternatives to any LDS houseguests I have out of respect for their beliefs.

I like sushi, but I think I'll pass on that as I like my food to be dead first.

It's not a MORMON joke but I did find this really funny

That's funny! The only thing I've done was to drive my mom home after that. -
Nice ABC News Piece on HBO Big Love Controversy

I agree, in fact he apologized for his comment he made after Prop 8 passed. For most people, the fact that he apologized is enough. -
I saw it, and I thought it was a good movie, as well as a reminder of the harmful effects of bigotry at its worst. (putting on my flame retardant suit)

I'm probably going to live to at least 100 because I have relatives who lived a very long life. There's no cancer in my family, and as long as I take care of myself, I can reduce the chance of getting diabetes which unfortunately, runs in my family.

HBO Recreates Portions of Temple Ceremony
ADoyle90815 replied to lusciouschaos's topic in Current Events
I think the best thing would be to ignore this, as it will be free publicity for the show since people often watch things to see what all the fuss is about. -
I was in an emotionally abusive marriage that was going to turn physical, but somehow, he didn't isolate me enough from my family and friends, so they helped me get out. Leaving was really the scariest time for me, to the point where not only did I get a restraining order against him, I used the escort services provided by the campus police until I learned through a friend that he had moved across town and was no longer a threat. After years of therapy, I finally found a REAL man who doesn't say anything nasty to me or anyone else.

Does anyone else think this is unacceptable?
ADoyle90815 replied to WillowTheWhisp's topic in General Discussion
The only things I remember about theme days when I was in school was that they were optional, and if one chose to participate and the parents allowed it, the clothing still had to fit within the dress code. That of course, meant that there had to be sleeves, no bare midriffs, and nothing too short. -
Now, the clock in my car will be right again, as I haven't figured out how to set it back.

I'm not LDS, but my personal views are that as long as both parents are able to fully support children without help, then I see nothing wrong with large families if they chose to have them. By that, I mean physically, mentally, and especially financially. I think WIC and other programs are great as a temporary thing in case of an unexpected job loss, but that it should be something that families can discontinue when they get back on their feet. I also support birth control as well, especially in this economy when many families are delaying having children until things improve, especially if someone has been laid off or is facing the possibility of that.

That's not just a Mormon thing, just so you know. You might be Mormon if when you talk about the "Y", you mean BYU and not the YMCA. You might be Mormon if you bought Dish Network because it has the BYU channel as part of the basic service. (In my area, that's the only way to really get that channel)
