  1. My cell phone, computer, and cable box changed automatically, so I just had to change every other clock, using my cell phone to get the correct time. I never figured out how to set the clock in my car, so that's now an hour fast. It doesn't matter anyway since I use a watch to keep track of time as my cell phone stays in my purse while I drive. I was doing that ever since I had my first cellphone, before there were laws against talking/texting while driving.
  2. Halloween is just harmless fun for me, and as long as parents are directly involved by walking with their kids to doors or to cars in a church parking lot, it can be safe. There are plenty of costumes available that are not scary at all, so people can chose not to to wear something considered evil. Personally, I think the "sexy" costume trend is even worse than scary costumes, especially for girls and women so I refuse to wear anything like that.
  3. I am planning on getting the H1N1 shot, as I already got my seasonal flu shot, but since I'm not in a high-risk category, I'm going to wait a few more weeks before I get it.
  4. A friend of mine who was a healthy, athletic 28 year old, died on October 1st from H1N1, so it's definitely something I'm very much aware of, and I'm getting the vaccine as soon as it's available. Until then, I've been doing a lot of hand washing and cleaning with bleach. I've even had to use more lotion on my hands than usual because the soap has been drying them out so much.
  5. I read that as well, and the next time I visit the National Cathedral, I'm going to look for that Darth Vader gargoyle. I thought the story was interesting, but it dragged on after the conclusion a bit.
  6. One time I'm glad I didn't eat something was when camping, someone tried to make drumsticks in BBQ sauce in a Dutch oven. The problem was that the person cooking didn't know that you have to put briquettes on top of the oven, and use more than a tiny amount at the bottom. As a result, the chicken wasn't cooked at all, and as one can imagine, those who ate it ended up with salmonella poisoning. Food poisoning is not fun when you're at home, but it's far worse when you're camping. The person who made the chicken eventually moved out of state, but that was the only time they got to cook. Once while making cookies, I made the mistake of using too much baking soda, so that was probably the worst thing I've ever eaten myself.
  7. I was in elementary school and saw the Challenger disaster as it happened, since it had the first teacher in space. I was actually asleep when the first plane hit the World Trade Center, but I did see both towers fall. The state decided to close all public universities for the day, so I stayed home as my first class that day wasn't until 11am.
  8. Tomatoes actually do pretty well in pots, as long as it's big enough to allow the roots to fully grow. The main thing I've grown has been herbs since I love using fresh herbs in cooking.
  9. I also would say that the best tacos I've had were in Tijuana, Mexico. I'm about 2 hours north of San Diego, so going to Tijuana isn't that difficult. I'm actually spoiled to the point that I won't eat Mexican food outside of states that are on the Mexican border. My favorite city to eat in has to be New Orleans, since I never had a bad meal there. Japanese: There's a Japanese/Asian market in Torrance, CA where the food court has the best food. Thai: New restaurant down the street from me, the best Thai food I've had.
  10. I agree, even though I personally don't wear micro mini skirts, they don't always mean that the wearer is a prostitute. I sometimes wear skirts that are just above the knee, and they do look elegant, especially when paired with a nice blouse.
  11. As someone who is not LDS, I personally have no problem with alcohol in moderation, as I don't drink to get drunk at all. It's usually something like a glass of wine or a beer with a nice meal, and nothing more than that. One thing about alcohol is that not all of it is burned off when cooking, unless it's baked for a long time, so if that's a concern, then there are many substitutions that work just as well. With mouthwash, there are alcohol free types out there, which could be an option. Alcohol is also in some cold medicines, especially the kinds designed to help you sleep when you've got a cold, but those taste so nasty, most people, including many LDS only use that for medicinal purposes.
  12. Here's an excellent ad from Dove showing what is done for fashion magazines. YouTube - Evolution
  13. I'm not LDS, but I refuse to wear any sexy costume, since I think they're objectifying women.
  14. I wouldn't be surprised if he faces church discipline for this, since there was at least one case where an active LDS member was excommunicated for publicly opposing Prop 8 with a website. If the LDS church can do that with someone who isn't a politician, they could easily do that to Reid since he said something that is against what the church teaches.
  15. Another option is to find something that looks like the blue dress Belle wears, as that has long sleeves.
  16. A mocha is basically a hot chocolate with espresso(coffee) added to it. Many times, coffee houses call the chocolate syrup mocha because it's used for both regular hot chocolate and mocha.
  17. Snopes lists that as unclassifiable, as variations of that story have been around for years. snopes.com: Seafood Sewn into Curtains
  18. I love the creativity of that judge's sentencing. I believe in the power of prayer, but I also believe that it works far better when combined with modern medicine, as that is also from God. It's God's will when someone dies even when the best medical care is combined with prayer.
  19. I would think that the only thing worse than being born gay and LDS is being a JW and a fan of vampire stories. (This is meant as sarcasm) Getting back to the topic, I have a cousin who was born gay, so when he finally came out, none of us were surprised at all. We still accept and love him unconditionally as he is a family member.
  20. One thing about the Olympics is that when they were in LA, I got to go to the equestrian event which was a lot of fun.
  21. That's true, in many cases, abortions happen because the mother won't survive the pregnancy, or there's a serious problem with the fetus that would cause death either in the womb, or after birth. Many women suffer from miscarriages, through no fault of their own because there's something wrong with the fetus.
  22. I just hope that he spends the rest of his natural life in prison as he's a monster. I wonder if they'll tape her testimony for the trial as she's about to go on a mission.
  23. The Twilight series of books have been banned in some school libraries. Capi Unified briefly bans 'Twilight' from middle schools, | books, school, series, district, library - News - OCRegister.com
  24. That's absolutely right, rape is about power, not sex. He's showing that not only does he have the power to rape, he can convince others that he should get away with it.
  25. I personally think that one reason why it seems like there are more natural disasters is that with the internet and 24 hour news channels, we hear about them right after they happen.
