  1. It wouldn't be surprising if the Antichrist uses religion as a way to get people for his army, especially if there is a False Prophet from a radical religious sect to help him. Basically, this individual would be another Jim Jones or David Koresh figure.
  2. I'm not offended at all, as it's been done through the centuries in religious art.
  3. It's not tacky at all, as my birthday is close to Thanksgiving, I always get at least one Christmas item, whether it's an ornament or dishes to be used from Black Friday to the end of December.
  4. That's nice, but that family might want to go to another LDS congregation but because of the way things are set up, they have to move in order to do so. One nice thing about other Christian churches is that if someone is more comfortable in a different building within the denomination, they can attend there to worship Christ.
  5. Lots of people get in a funk, especially when the days are the shortest as well as holiday stress. For many people, being laid off or worrying about the possibility of a lay off has caused major stress. Depression isn't always caused by Satan, as it is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, and many people have a genetic predisposition for that chemical imbalance in the brain. It's similar to those who are insulin-dependent diabetic.
  6. My list: Alastair Sim version of A Christmas Carol-I grew up watching this version Miracle on 34th Street(original version) The Bishop's Wife (original version, not the Whitney Houston remake) National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation A Christmas Story How the Grinch Stole Christmas-animated version only
  7. Are you saying that if someone was excommunicated and didn't work on getting their membership back through whatever process is required before they died can't have the work done after death? I thought the whole point of temple work was to give someone a second chance.
  8. This reminds me of the SNL Church Lady skit where moving the letters that spell Santa, you get Satan. Well, isn't that special.(Church Lady's line)
  9. I haven't seen any sources of increased property values, as the recession and foreclosure crisis has affected even neighborhoods close to LDS temples.
  10. I also think you should get a restraining order against that woman and continue to press charges so that sex offender goes to jail where he belongs. It's good that your daughter is getting help to deal with this, and she's very brave to go ahead and press charges. Many molestation cases are never prosecuted because of the fear of not being believed or being blamed in some way. Abuse is NEVER the victim's fault.
  11. I thought it was a good speech, as Afghanistan still needs more troops as we are still at war against terrorists and those who support them. I do have a cousin who is in that country right now, doing his part in fighting this war.
  12. I admire Walmart for what they did in this situation, and I hope they catch the creep and arrest him. Still, I prefer to avoid that place during the Christmas season as it seems like a lot of bad things happen there or in the parking lot. Four men rob woman as she left Gardner Walmart - KansasCity.com
  13. I have a fake, pre-lit tree because I like to go on a short vacation right before Christmas. I have some pine scented oil that can be used with an oil burner that produces the smell of a real tree.
  14. Well said! Sure, there are people who are still married who were 21 and younger, but there are many others who are divorced even if they waited until after the wedding to move in together. When someone is in their early 20's, they're still finding out what they want to do with their lives, and many people aren't ready for marriage at that time. Often, people want to make sure they have a career first before they decide to marry and start a family. I think people should really get to know each other before marrying, even if it takes years of dating to do so. One thing about having a brain is that sometimes people use it and decide not to get married before they're ready. I think that's more mature than rushing into marriage because everyone expects you to do so.
  15. Silent Night-especially during the late night Christmas Eve service when the church is dark and everyone is holding candles. The Holly and the Ivy Greensleeves, I mean What Child is This Hallelujah chorus from Handel's Messiah O Little Town of Bethlehem O Come, O Come Emanuel O Holy Night The First Noel
  16. The church I go to also accepts the Nicene Creed, and when catholic church is mentioned, it's meant as a universal church. Even though they ordain women and now gays as clergy, it's often called "Catholic Lite," as many rituals are similar to the Roman church, especially in High Church congregations.
  17. I'm going to stay with my church even though they now ordain gay priests. One thing that attracted me to my church in the first place was that they ordain women, and that women even can serve in church leadership positions.
  18. I mostly use Facebook, especially Farmville, and various forums. There are also several blogs I read all the time.
  19. I wasn't aware of this, as the huge local rivalry game for me was USC/UCLA, with the Trojans winning again. One ugly thing about that particular rivalry is that someone vandalized UCLA's bruin statue by pouring red and gold paint on it.
  20. She was a heroic lady, and an inspiration.
  21. For me, I prefer cremation as it's less expensive, and uses less land than a burial does. I think that the younger generations are more accepting of cremation than earlier generations because churches have started to allow the practice, even if the ashes are buried in a cemetery or interred in a mausoleum. Many who request cremation do so because they want to spare their families from having to go into debt to pay the expense of a burial.
  22. The climate goes in cycles, where at times, there's a bit of a warming, other times, there's a mini ice age. Regardless of what may be causing climate changes, I also think that we should take better care of this planet as I would hate for it to take a major disaster to get us to change, especially if by the time that happens, it's too late to change things.
  23. This is awesome!!
  24. I think that with the restraining order, he couldn't have attended the baptism even if he said "yes" because it would be a violation for him to be there. With a restraining/no contact order, it often means that the person who has that order against them has to find a different church building to attend. Someone in the LDS church would simply have to move because switching isn't as easy as it is in other churches.
  25. Since I didn't even finish the first book because I hated it, I haven't read or had any desire to read the rest of the series, or watch any of the movies. As a result, I won't be part of the hysteria at all, in fact I think it's creepy that moms are drooling over teenage boys. In real life when that happens, they get thrown in jail, especially if they're a teacher and that boy is a student.
