  1. It's not your fault your baby screams when put in the playpen, neither of mine liked them until they were 2 1/2. Then they were all 'ohhh what is this strange, alien device?' I would recommend walks with baby in jogging stroller or baby backpack. It's good to hear you again!
  2. That happened to my si--ahem, someone I know! After years and years and years of abuse she finally called the police, who arrested her (leaving her 2 little boys in the hands of their abusive father) for writing a bad check. Turns out when they first got together he wrote a check on her account without her knowledge, they moved out of state, etc etc. We, her fami-*cough* friends, were so furious. It was like, once the warrant showed up, she was instantly trying to get a fine, upstanding member of society in trouble. If this ever happens again to anyone in the fami-*cough* circle of friends the police will not be needed. Excuse me, need a cough drop... Back to topic: I Love the D.I.!!! All my toddler's favorite Sesame Street toys have come from there
  3. I blame the parents. I've raised my oldest daughter to think we are terribly poor, so she asks for big things only on her birthday and Christmas
  4. I thought this article was a great way of, while making me depressed because of the history lesson, cheering me up with the thought that our country has survived quite a few social arguments. America Is Turning Into One Big Prison for People in Debt | Alternet
  5. So the question is, what will stop mentally ill people from shooting other people?
  6. Try being the odd one at church, working mom with a stay-at-home husband It's very important to be close to Heavenly Father and listen to the promptings of the Spirit whether you're at home or at a job. As long as you do that, you'll be good. And isn't it great that we live at a time where we can connect to so many of our fellow Saints, instantly? We gain insight and advice and friendship with people all over, which can be so very nice if we sometimes feel like the only one in the ward dealing with different issues.
  7. I apologize in advance if I make no sense, because my head cold is giving me the foolish delusion that I can communicate rationally. I am glad that you like your job and want it to be successful. It shows your great work ethic and wllingness to go above and beyond the call of duty. However.... Performing your regular work off the clock sets a terrible precedent. The fact that your non-profit cannot afford to hire someone else (even a part-timer) or cannot train any volunteers to help with the work load is not your issue, it is theirs. And it is their job to solve this problem. My point earlier was about workers doing more for the same pay (basically taking a cut in pay. More work plus same pay equals pay cut). Working off the clock does not give your employer incentive at all to change, and in fact reinforce the idea that things can continue and if someone cannot or will not perform tasks off the clock they are not performing at standard level. Please do not do that to your fellow coworkers. Thank you
  8. That is a reasonable guess on anyone's part, but if there is no proof then it's just a guess.
  9. I'm ok with gates and armed guards. I think the potential for a gun accident would be much lower with people who literally have a job that requires guns. And schools really need more security. Case in point, when my husband moved out here a few years ago he went to my daughter's school to get her out of class for a dr. appt. The school let her go, with this person who was a total stranger to them and not on my list, with no question. Scary lol.
  10. Why is something that can't be proven a foregone conclusion?
  11. These aren't executive orders, so they aren't law. Just good talking points. And the part about studying video game and movie violence has a whole lot of people talking lol. I hope that one happens, it'll be nice to have a scientific study instead of a lot of knee-jerk reactions on both sides. I see this as the president saying 'this is my take, what is yours?' to Congress. Let's hope actual work happens. And I think that more help for the mentally ill could have prevented a lot of mass school/theater/wherever shootings. Including Sandy Hook. Doing nothing at all just means we're offering up our children to be the next victims.
  12. I have found, in my years of living in Southern Idaho, that good quality tires will make or break you. If you have good tread you can drive in almost anything Rexburg will throw at you. Rexburg has city roads that never seem to melt until April. IDK what kind of pavement they use but I think it's pretty sad for a town with that much traffic
  13. If there is so much work left at the end of the day that it's causing problems the next day then your employer needs to think about hiring another person. The American worker (meaning, anyone working in the USA) is amazing in terms of productivity, but there comes a time when you just have to hire
  14. Our meeting time changed to 8:30am, no joke. I will gladly go to church at this hour if it means my toddler is sleeping in her bed at nap time, not suffering through church like the last 2 years
  15. I'm a Pres. Obama supporter and I don't call what you said mudslinging. A healthy discussion of political ideas is necessary for our Republic to flourish. I may disagree with your focus, but I hope you don't think I am mudslinging when I say that I believe the problems our country faces comes from a very different source
  16. Her husband's great-grandfather, I believe. Good guess ^^
  17. Mom, some people just don't want to be corrected. The political posts I've seen have been wildly tempered from pre-election angst. But I have noticed a lot more religious posts. I don't even feel guilty anymore when I don't "'Like' if Jesus is your Savior" "D
  18. This is so funny! I think it may be a matter of perspective, as well. My family usually sits in the overflow area because Gwen thinks she's a banshee monkey when it's nap time, so it's easier to take her out into the hall. Last week we sat in the middle of the chapel to get ready for the earlier meeting time change this year and omgoish I could not believe all the touching around me. It was like everyone was leaning against each other or rubbing backs or children sitting on laps or whispering. You just don't see all of this from the back for some reason. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. Just different
  19. Problems like this wouldn't even happen if we had a health-care system where employees can afford to pay for their own insurance. See how easy this solution is?
  20. how does that compare to a plane ticket?
  21. What I've read is it'll be about $140ish US. Pretty cheap, I think ^^
  22. I trust my school-age child's teachers, and I believe they would act like the teachers in Conn. But, I believe fundamentally, we need to treat teachers with far more respect than has been shown if we want them to defend the kids with deadly force. It's a matter of fairness. How can we expect them to teach and be prepared to use guns at school if we insist on paying them the wages and benefits that are bare minimum? I'm glad there are those willing to pay a little more if a teacher has a concealed weapons permit, but the fact is teacher's salaries have been slashed so much the past few decades that we now as a society expect them to be paid what an undocumented nanny would get and they'd better be grateful for it, by gum! This Great Recession is merely a solidification of policies that have been accepted over the years: work lean, do more for less, do the same for less, be grateful you're even working. Adding weapons training to a teacher's job is just adding insult to injury. Soapbox over I think the only thing that even has a hope of being effective is a panic button in each classroom, like bank tellers have. Specific training, panic buttons, and very responsive police. I like an idea I read about in The Deseret News about patrol officer offices at schools. They have to do their paperwork anyways, why not do them at schools where their vehicles will be highly visible?
  23. We are indeed an automobile country, probably because it was cheaper for individuals/families to buy their own vehicles than funding railroads. But, there was a time in this country when trains were huge big business. What changed?
  24. Actually, you can when you realize the only time the President had power to put forward his goals was about 56 days in the first year.
