  1. After reading this post I realized it was merely a vehicle to political arguments, so it's deleted
  2. I know, I read that very same sentence. In case you didn't get that far, here is the last paragraph: "Humanizing the economy is an ongoing quest, and various forms of religious morality and socialist ideals will continue to promote reform of unjust economic practices. However, economic justice will not be found in a simplistic zero-sum model of dividing the economic pie like communists tried. Rather, it will more likely be based on a positive-sum economic system involving checks and balances on large concentrations of wealth, regulation of corporate behavior, and laws against the collusion of politics and money. The efficiency of the market, the personal fulfillment that can be derived from ownership and entrepreneurship, and the possibilities resident in the mass production of goods and services, can all be integrated into an economic engine for human betterment."
  3. I found this to be a very good read on the subject Socialism - New World Encyclopedia
  4. wow, all the things I was talking about in 2000...looks like I was right glad that's over.
  5. What really set off the resignation of Petraus was the revelation that his biographer/only named female in this whole mess had access to his email.
  6. Now, this is kind've like the Hitler reference. Out of all the comparisons you could have made, like 'If you ask a nun what she wants...' or 'If you ask a banker what she wants...', you choose a whore. Not that whores don't have wants or needs, of course. But why did you choose that as your example? Gee, I didn't even notice your direct cut to my ignorance. Nice hit.
  7. It depends on if you understand the intent of the original poster
  8. I wasn't able to find the word 'socialism'. I was able to find an example of it, however, when I went to 4 Nephi 1:3 Now, there will be those who say 'But that's not Socialism!" I've heard this argument before. But if you ask an actual Socialist what they want and this is what they will describe as their goal.
  9. Who exactly owns this trillions of dollars of debt the USA owes?
  10. I think the war on poverty will be won individually. We need to see what we can do to help our brothers and sisters reach the goals set for them pre-mortally, and it's much easier to achieve them when we have full bellies and warm clothes. I believe government assistance is necessary when we fail to do our part. And since we are all human with human failings, gov't is needed many times more than is comfortable, to pick up our slack. I think it is our responsibility to do what we can to make the burden for our fellow beings lighter, and that includes doing what we can to be as light a burden as possible. Helping in the DI or cleaning the church building when we get help from the bishop's storehouse, making baby quilts if we can't stand up long to work, mowing lawns or volunteering in classrooms if we can't find employment, these and many more can help everyone involved! I think we need to evolve past this 'I am a hardy pioneer island' way of thinking. All it does is make people on all sides of the issue angry with each other, and we all know who likes contention.
  11. This quote, from wikipedia >< , sums up my view Electoral College (United States) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 'Except in closely fought swing states, voter turnout is largely insignificant due to entrenched political party domination in most states. The Electoral College decreases the advantage a political party or campaign might gain for encouraging voters to turn out, except in those swing states. If the presidential election were decided by a national popular vote, in contrast, campaigns and parties would have a strong incentive to work to increase turnout everywhere. Individuals would similarly have a stronger incentive to persuade their friends and neighbors to turn out to vote. The differences in turnout between swing states and non-swing states under the current electoral college system suggest that replacing the Electoral College with direct election by popular vote would likely increase turnout and participation significantly.'
  12. huh. When I was 18 a mission was about the last thing on my mind..
  13. the toddler version (featuring my toddler ) will be on here as soon as we can get Gwendolyn to dance to it with clothes on. We're potty training her, so naturally all her funny stuff happens when she's without a diaper >< I looked at the wiki page, too. He sounds like a fun guy. I'm glad Kpop is trending. My husband and I listen to a lot of Jpop and see this as a step forward :)
  14. My baby loves to 'whoopwhoop' to this song I have no idea what he's singing/rapping, but it's a pretty silly parody of wealth
  15. The great thing about the electoral college is we can go be very serious and talk about the Issues, monitor candidates, and go vote with the firm knowledge that we have absolutely no responsibility in who becomes president. "Little Timmy, you voted, what a big boy! Here's an 'I voted' sticker and a pat on the head. You're so grown-up!'
  16. Personal revelation is a great gift. Probably the best one we have been given.
  17. I call my husband by his name. Because I can't imagine a word that encompasses all that he is and all that he will be better than the name he calls himself ^^ I love his name.
  18. lol, Mom, I was going to say the same thing. My 2 yr old had a screech phase, and now she's into growling. The growling so much better, I'm really glad we taught her to do it *^.^*~
  19. You're not alone! And my husband is my best friend
  20. Why should he stop? He gets you and his girlfriend, so there is no incentive to stop. I really hope the information you're reading helps your marriage!
  21. Brilliant! I post political stuff all the time, but I like to think what I post is well-thought out and ripe for a good discussion. Unfortunately others in my family feel that everything someone says that reflects poorly on their whatever of choice is a personal attack on them.
  22. I like about anything they've made by Philip K. ****. <3 Star Wars (the old 1-3, not the new ones. Did you see what they did at the end of Return of the Jedi? Quelle horreur!!!!). Sheesh put a starship or a ray gun in it and I'll give a movie a lot more leeway than other genres. A lot of good books need to be made into movies, like Friday by Robert A. Heinlein. They're coming out a with a Starship Troopers that's more true to the book (which I loved). The one out now is like 'cotton candy' science fiction if you've read the book first. The Asimov Foundation series practically screams 'movie!'. I just read my post and saw that Mr. Philip K. ****'s last name was censored. While I can understand the reasoning behind keeping a clean site, and believe me I appreciate it, how about some leeway with ppls names...like **** Cheney? **** Clark? President Nixon? lol
  23. This must have been a really bad year for Broadway if this musical is getting so much credibility
  24. Chestnut Tree (Honest) — of unusual stature, impressive, well-developed sense of justice, fun to be around, a planner, born diplomat, can be irritated easily, sensitive of others feelings, hard worker, sometimes acts superior, feels misunderstood at times, fiercely family oriented, very loyal in love, physically fit. 10/14 for me *^^* Elm Tree (Noble-minded) — pleasant shape, tasteful clothes, modest demands, tends not to forgive mistakes, cheerful, likes to lead but not to obey, honest and faithful partner, likes making decisions for others, noble-minded, generous, good sense of humor, practical. 11/12 for my husband
  25. I think the reason that thread was good was because I totally refrained from typing anything on it. It was good for my spiritual well-being
