Actually, it's quite deceptive. Compare it to the various mega churches out there. I live about 5 blocks from Rick Warren's Saddleback Church compound, which is massive. It has shuttle stops from its many parking lots. Almost directly across from the Newport Beach temple is the Mariner's church which is also a massive compound which many very large buildings. They have a baptismal pool on the grounds that can service hundreds of baptims simultaneously. LDS temples and their lots are far smaller and attract far less traffic. I just recently went to the St, Paul Minn Temple, and it was smaller than the adjacent chapel. Trying to sell the temple as a mega church is also misleading the usage of the building. The temple itself does not accommodate thousands, and in fact, because the services are spread out over the week with several sessions a day, the attendance at any given time is only a few hundred, less than a typical Sunday church service. So, to do a fair comparison, you really should compare temples with mega churches. Of course, that doesn't bode well for the opposition who are perfectly comfortable with a massive compound, as long as it services their brand of Christianity. At least, that has been my experience here in California.

Best advice is to google each error message with quotes and see what turns up. You can find a lot of information by researching a little. Hopefully you can find step by step corrections online. But be careful, messing with your registry or deep internals of windows can be tricky. Alternatively you can try reinstalling software which corrects some things, And as a final step, you might want to consider upgrading to Windows 7.

Question About Joining A Local LDS Church?
bytebear replied to Melissa569's topic in General Discussion
Here are some links that will help with attending a church service: What to Expect How to Attend a Mormon Service if You're Not Mormon | eHow.com Because you are a baptized member, your records will be transferred to your ward. Each member is assigned a ward according to geography, so the ward you visit may not be the one you are assigned to, but the bishop can figure that out for you. Don't worry, when you attend service, you will be greeted by at least a half dozen random people who will all be willing to help you connect with the right classes, and the right people. It's a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. -
Fasting on Fast Sunday - is it a commandment?
bytebear replied to gualeguaychu's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Of all the principals taught in the missionary discussions, this is the only one that is not asked for a commitment in the baptismal interview. It is also not asked in the temple interview. -
According to LDS Article of Faith #4 "We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost." So you are half way there, but to achieve greater spiritual insight and Celestial glory you must covenant through baptism with God. But, you don't need to covenant at all to be a Cougar fan, and even us Utah fans may get to heaven.

It was a reference to "shock and awe" and the military (or rather the mercenaries) were definitely the bad guys. It is interesting to compare to Aliens, where the mercenaries are depicted as the heroes. You could spend days analyzing both depictions and compare them to the political climate of the time each film was made. By the way, I hated the movie. Aside from the heavy handed political and environmental message, the effects were still too cartoonish, and I didn't see anything that warrants the hype on the new technology. The story was predictable, and the elements were just derivatives of other James Cameron movies, right down to characters which were plucked whole cloth from past movies. I am surprised they didn't get Paul Reiser to play the corporate lackey.

Let's see: Jordan River, UT (open house when I was a kid and baptisms, and later endowments) SLC, UT (endowed) Provo, UT Los Angeles, CA Newport Beach, CA (open house) The rest were visits: Logan UT Ogden, UT St George, UT Manti, UT Bountiful, UT Draper, UT Oquirrh Mountain (open house) Mount Timpanogos, UT Redlands, CA San Diego, CA Las Vegas, NV Laie, HI and just this past week, I visited the St. Paul MN temple and I am planning to go to the Vancouver temple open house. I have photos of every temple I have visited, and I even have the Oquirrh Mountain temple the day it was struck by lightning (before and after pictures of the damage, but didn't know it was struck until the news that night.

Worship--for God alone, or man as well?
bytebear replied to lattelady's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Here's the difference. Mormons would say that Joseph Smith has no bearing on the salvation of those in the dispensation of Noah, Adam, Moses, Abraham, etc. But for those who lived at the time of Moses, for example, and followed him to the promised land, he was a vital figure in their salvation. That said, only Jesus Christ is the savior of the world, all people, past and present. -
Worship--for God alone, or man as well?

I would appreciate a link to that discussion, because, honestly, I can't imagine anyone saying they worship Joseph Smith. -

A friend of mine is a contractor in Iraq. I would recommend reading his blog to get an idea of life over there. Chris in Iraq -
Just remind your investigators that contention is not the goal, and if they want to know the truth, they are welcome to continue learning. Many times on my mission, I told investigators flat out I would explain any and every doctrine of the church in detail, but only if allowed to give context to the discussion. Most times, the antagonist would not agree. And that is when the investigators know who is truly from God. and who is not. Also, point out what the Holy Ghost feels like, and ask them to contrast the feelings that the other person brought into their house, compared to the feeling they got when they first met the missionaries. It's very easy to feel when the Holy Ghost leaves a house.

No, because it also includes babies born to LDS parents, and that will add a lot to the numbers.

Some Mormons may not understand Joseph's translation process
bytebear replied to Hemidakota's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
1887, 58 years after the translation. David Whitmer, a man never directly involved in the translation process. My instinct is to say this is hearsay at best. -
Are General Conference talks scripture?
bytebear replied to OneEternalSonata's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Their guidance is scripture but only until the next conference when new guidance comes. Any doctrinal proclamation however, must be sustained by the church in an official capacity before it becomes canon. The JOD are not necessarily the same as conference talks. They were written by second hand witnesses, and not by the speaker. Nor were they approved or edited by the apostles, and they were never sustained or approved by the body of the church. So, they are useful from a historic standpoint, but are in no way considered declarations of truth, as the Ensign transcripts are. -
A few questions
bytebear replied to a topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Have you ever heard of push polling? It's essentially asking questions, but not to gain answers, but to push an agenda or present an opinion disguised as seeking information. This is essentially what the OP did and rather than be honest in his agenda, he chose to disguise his attempt at influencing the board in the guise of seeking information. -
Which brings up another myth. That we do everything our ancestors did.

A few questions
bytebear replied to a topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Actually, the offense is in the false assumptions of the questions. like the one that says that Mormons believe God had sex with Mary. The question lies in the asking and presents a false statement to deceive the ignorant and uninformed. It is not about finding the truth. -
I never understood the traffic issue. Every residential temple I have been to has very little traffic, if any. The local Starbucks attracts more cars than a temple. I actually wish the church would go for the big landmark temples. The DC Temple and San Diego temple come to mind (although the SD temple is actually quite small, but it looks big).

A few questions
bytebear replied to a topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
What I want to know is why the original poster didn't come here with his own ideas, and instead plagiarized an anti-Mormon website. Questions Every Mormon Should Ask -
Myths: We stock ammunition for some great war, or to take over the government. We shower and bathe in our garments, and never take them off ever! Various garment protection stories. All Mormons live in Utah We wear pioneer clothing. We live in log cabins. The LA Temple's angel Moroni was installed facing South (as the Temple does) and a nearby non-LDS neighbor said she would join the church the day that angel turned and pointed toward her house. Well, the prophet had the angel rotated so it faced East, and the woman woke up to quite a shocking scene!

But God the Father didn'r raise Jesus, Joseph did and essentially adopted him as his own. It woudl be more akin to say, do you need a marriage if you act as a sperm donor to another couple, and the answer is of course no.

Choosing a Ward
bytebear replied to prisonchaplain's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
A ward becomes a family, and just like your family, you can't just kick out uncle Bob because he's weird. But, fortunately, if leadership is lacking, remember, it will change quite frequently, as Bishops are only in that position for several years, and the turn around in leadership in all positions is frequent. You may even find yourself in the reverse position one day. Also, we don't want our wards to compete with each other, where people are shopping for the best "family" they can find. Instead, we are supposed to build up the ward family we are given, and help each other out, instead of taking the easy way out. The Lord has already shown what he does with those who run from difficult situations - i.e. Jonah. By the way, sometimes the geography is odd. Most buildings house several wards, and even here in California where there isn't a ward on every street corner, I have two buildings closer to me than the one I am assigned. -
I just saw The Holiday. Better than I thought it would be. Christmas Story is my favorite. The Grinch cartoon is a close second. And I do like Die Hard.
