I thought I was the only Mormon in my whole family until I started doing serious genealogy work about 4 years ago. I made a mistake on something that I entered and this person, whom I never heard of sent me an email to tell me that who I had as my Great Great Grandmother was actually named Sue and not Elizabeth. Come to find out this person is an LDS relative of mine going back on my mother's side. I am not sure how far back my family has been involved...but, at least I know that there are a few of us converts.

I was baptized in 1971 and my parents never mentioned anyone else in the family being LDS... so I just don't have a clue.

Wow I would have to do some research on that.  I know my mom's side of the family goes back to the very early days of the church and that some of my ancestors came across the plains.

I can't imagine stating that there is no Easter bunny; considering the Easter bunny is no nice and thoughtful by leaving goodies and anything else that kids (young or grown) will find wonderful. I'm hoping the Easter bunny will always come to my house, even when the kids are old and grey.

I usually just ask Palerider what's going on.  He can be biased, but he's not as bad as MSNBC or FOX.

Do you watch the news each day or evening ?
How do you stay current with what\'s going on in the country or world ?
I don\'t watch the local news everyday. I probably look at news sites on line more than watch them on TV.
I don\'t like to watch or read very much because I feel it affects my attitude. I try to stay upbeat and it\'s harder for me if I get wrapped up in news.

I think some dress sloppily for lots of things myself. Since when did people start wearing pajamas to go out of the house....to any store for that matter.

It's hard to watch due to all the spin that's put on a news item.

Actually I think the point of the article was that people are dressing sloppily in all aspects of their lives now.

If I turn the TV on, I generally keep it on FoxNews if I am at home working during the day. I'm also active on a conservative message board (that aggregates the news, so a lot of times I'll see 'breaking news' there first), and I listen to Limbaugh, who, is an interesting commentator when he's not talking about football or golf. I get a couple of news feeds on my FB page. I try to listen to Cavuto or some other business news source several times a week, but I don't need it everyday due to the amount of business news I get online. The past few days, I've had a Korean cable news station playing online as I work. I can't speak Korean, but I can watch the pictures and get an idea of what is going on, especially since the American media isn't covering this tragedy very much.

I rarely watch local news and never watch broadcast news.

I probably don't need to watch as much news, but I have to keep up because of my work, plus, I admit to being a news freak.

Palerider got a reaction from Maureen in If prisonchaplain were an LDS bishop he'd tell youth not to date non-LDS
As a father of 3 daughters I have seen them date members and those who are non members and those who are active in their own church. In this area the young men who were active in their church were Baptists. Due to the area where we live there wasn't lots of choices to date LDS young men. To be honest there were some young men who I wasn't all that crazy about. I talked with my daughters about dating and not getting involved in a serious relationship. That was an interesting conversation. They told me at their school if you dated around there were names and labels that you got hit with.
We also talked with them about going places in groups and keep in mind when you are in a group they tend to pair up. My reason for this was I knew if they went to a theatre to see a movie and people we knew saw them that I would hear how they were seen with their so called date. This happened too. Not sure if some made it a point to tell me what they seen because of my being the Branch President at the time and for some reason, my opinion, those Bishop/Branch President kids are always watched by others.
Our Stake is spread out for example our Stake Center is 90 miles away. There were times when LDS young men wanted to date a young woman in our area and some of us would put the young man up in our home so they wouldn't have to drive the 90 plus miles back home.
We encouraged our daughters to keep the LDS standards and we had our battles with them.
Here is how it all turned out, of our 3 daughters, two of them are married to LDS men and sealed in the Temple. Our youngest daughter is married to a non member. He is a great guy and he is not religious. He does not smoke nor does he drink. When they were dating my daughter came to me and said....You and Mom don't like ....... Cause he isn't a member. We told her that wasn't true. We do like him but what we don't like is .....he can't take you to the Temple and we have always taught you and encouraged how important a Temple Marriage is. I know the day will come when he will ask you to marry him and you will say yes. However, that's your choice. We will support you. She is still active in church and he does not stop her from going. He also encourages her to go. I appreciate that
I guess what I am trying to say here....you take the church standards/dating and as Mother and Father and decide what your going to do. I can tell you this....until your kids are old enough to date....it always looks easy until their teenagers.
We did the best we could. Our son is also married and he and his wife were married in the Temple. For us our son was easier to raise than our daughters. Wow. Lol. Hope this makes some kind so sense.

What the article is saying I get that and I agree.....keep in mind it's not talking about those who can't afford church type clothing. Our area is a rural area and we do have people here below poverty. We encourage them to wear their Sunday best....if that means blue jeans and a flannel shirt and that's their Sunday best the that's what they wear. I don't believe that's what the article is saying....over all attitude is changing.
