    I have a question.

I caught a brief segment on Kate Kelly and she made a comment, which I can't directly quote, but went something like the following:

    Is this true?

If no, then fine. Does someone have a source that supports this? But if yes, I'm curious where the barring against women comes in. What would be the reasoning behind it?

Can we straighten something out in this thread, please?  In case you only read the OP, but not the linked article, you might not realize that neither Kate Kelly nor John Dehlin have been excommunicated.  They've each been notified, by their own individual local leaders, that they are now subject to official Church disciplinary action.  Such action has not yet taken place.  They are currently still members of the Church, in good standing, even, so far as we can tell.

Not sure if this is a caution, warning, criticism or encouragement.

"I want to quote Russell Berger from his post on the CrossFit Forum in reply to some of the negative posts about CrossFit going around on the internet. This is his last point and I 100% agree. I couldn't say it any better myself:
"...don’t get too worked up about everything published on the internet.
People feel strongly about CrossFit because it changes their lives. A combination of gratitude and allegiance drives the CrossFit community to defend their own against these types of articles. But the truth is, this type of article is symbolic of our success. No one is writing emotional manifestos against Blackberries, yet it’s hard to keep track of the number of commercials attempting to point out flaws with apple products."
    Thanks Russell!

I use facebook for friends...I use this site for discussion.

Now that sounds like I don't consider many of you friends.  But I think you get where I'm coming from.

I don't add anyone on lds.net.  I used to but deleted everyone.  I just don't see the purpose on this forum site.

Wingnut, honestly I don't think "friends" as in "a list of friends" means much in the forum. Out of the friends I had, I think I only really messaged about two or three of them on and off, you being one of them of course!

Anatess and I have had quite a few laughs too. I wish we kept all our received and sent messages...

Are "friends" relevant in the forum setup?  You're welcome to add me if you want, but I don't actually interact with friends on here, outside of forum threads.  :)

It's been eons since I've checked in, but I met a woman that is a Crossfit instructor, and I think I'm going to look into it further.

You might really enjoy it. Just be sure to go at your own pace. It is also a good idea with any exercise program to look into what education the instructor has above and beyond being certified in a particular system.Even so, book learning isn't everything and if she doesn't have any it may be forgivable if she has years of experience in the trenches, especially if she attends courses and conferences to update her skill-base.

I would just stress waiting until you feel really comfortable with highly skilled exercises like the olympic lifts before banging out reps to exhaustion trying to set time records. Also take time to recover between work-outs (i.e. don't try 5+/week out of the gate). Have fun.

Maybe the Relief Society is responsible. They are the ones that got permission and agreed to the conditions of using it.

I'm happy for the family, but I'm sure they'll be tested by the persecution they'll endure, indefinitely. I would agree with the thought process that the public does not know all the details pertaining to this event, which of course, is always a cash cow for the media.

I will agree that life is not fair, but the Lord is just.

I've heard many times that children under 8 who die and those burdened with developmental disabilities, were brothers and sisters more righteous than the rest of us, therefore born just to gain a body before returning to God or living a life unaccountable to sin. While a nice sentiment, especially for those of us with loved ones that fit in either category, I'm not convinced it's the case. Why? Because on the flipside, I've often heard that those most righteous are reserved for the latter days, which might be our children now or grandchildren... So who really knows?

Lastly, I can speculate all I want and perhaps critique The Lord's plan, but in the end I am incapable of calling out what is fair and not fair in the grand scheme of things in His plan.

My children will never know the joy of climbing freely around the car, over seat, under sister/brother, whilst mom and dad cruise it down the freeway joyously seat-belt free.

    Okay...cynicism a bit there.

I do think the car-seat thing has gone a bit far though now-a-days. I do support car-seats and seatbelts, however. :)

Spending all day outside exploring without adult supervision.  We were sent out to play and we came home for lunch and dinner.  We had fun.  We never thought of danger.  I feel so bad for kids now.  It's all structured activities or video games.  Spontaneous play and exploration seem to be a thing of the past.

I agree with everyone else.  Someone needs to take up a collection, or find a away yo pay it back.  It looks bad when we teach accountabliity and we are not being accountable!

I'd (respectfully and privately) suggest to the bishop, and possibly the ward mission leader as well, that--legal niceties aside--the Church's good name is all over this one.  Missionary efforts and public goodwill in your area will, to a large degree, depend on what the ward does now to make this right with the people whose property was damaged.  Would it really kill the ward to do a bake sale, or send some elders over to do some grunt work, or . . . something?  People can weasel out of their role in the garden, but whatever happened to "bearing one another's burdens" and all that?

And if leadership won't act--that certainly doesn't prevent you from trying to scrape something together.  :)

Your Ward has permission to use the land, they then should replace what one of their members burned. Comes out of the Ward budget.

People have a moral obligation.  I guess people tend to forget that part when accountability is in play.

Can't someone take up a collection or something?

As a user of the garden, even if I couldn't pay all, I would at least try to come up with something.

I think that there are only a handful of people in the world who have adequate information to make judgements on this topic, and I think that's mostly okay.  In the meantime, I'm not one of them, and I'm just glad that the Bergdahl family can have some peace and closure to this period in their lives.  If he stands court marshal, fine.  But his family knows that he's alive and again on American soil (well, soon to be, I think).  I can't help but be happy for them for that.
