On Defending your religion on the internet.

Mahone makes a valid point. I'd say that the scriptures give us some excellent guidance on contentious matters: 3 Nephi 11:29 For verily, verily I say unto you, he that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another. it might be wise to say your piece, correct the doctrine where it is seen to be untrue and then leave it at that and allow the people to seek out the truth for themselves through the spirit if they so wish to. -

M.C. Hammer learned the hard way that Chuck Norris can touch this. Chuck Norris can drown a fish. Brett Favre can throw a football over 50 yards. Chuck Norris can throw Brett Favre even further. -

yeah love knoppix... got me out of a hole many times anyone know if there is the scriptures on linux yet? i have a hole bunch of text files that has the scriptures on them that i have on my eeepc which i take to church, but would like to have it in a program so to speak.
-
i like puppy linux which runs entirely in ram. perfect for the eeepc which i have it installed on. Server wise i prefer CentOS or Ubuntu basically because they are the servers we use the most at work and i'm the most familiar with. Desktop i prefer Fedora, don't know why but I just love the feel of it. Been playing with Mandriva a bit lately and it's a nice build. Personally i don't like gnome and prefer KDE but that's just me.

D&C 1:38 What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my aword shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same. -
sorry i hit the wrong button and thanked Elphaba for the post when i was supposed to hit the quote button. i feel exactly the same having read your post as I had this situation happen in my ward growing up. Later on in life i took a job as a pyschologist treating borderline intellectually disabled pedophiles. I lasted 3 months before i quit, realising that it was a deadend job and that these people are really sick with an addiction that they can't treat. I really feel for you. Just be there for the kids is my advice.

i've read both threads and i'm confused and i'll leave it at that.

if i may add a small comment here..... the whole purpose of my post in this thread was to really enquire as to whether Sola believed in modern day revelation or whether he believes this has ceased. As he has stated he does not believe that revelation is given to man any more through a living prophet, which is his belief and I'm fine with that. This being the case, then there is no way to show that the suffering Christ did in the garden of Gethsemane holds any wait into him taking the sins of the world upon himself there as he is correct that the bible does not discuss this, but it does not specifically say that when Christ was on the cross that he bore all the sins of the world there either. we as latter-day saints allow men to worship how where and what they may, but i agree with what vort has said to this point regarding the topic.

i know you said only christmas carols/ songs but does a song sung at carols by candlelight count? if so see below.... if not please disregard YouTube - Jimmy Barnes and David Campbell, Carols By Candlelight, "You'll Never Walk Alone"

what i believe is what is stated by Joseph Smith in the wentworth letter or known today as the articles of faith whereby he states that "we claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own cconscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may"
-
i guess it comes down to whether you believe that revelation still exists as to whether you believe that the statements put before you previously are true or not. If you are of the belief that God still does communicate with man via revelation through a living prophet then the statements of Elder McConkie fulfill what is spoken of in Amos and God's continued guidance to man. In the 9th article of faith it reads: 9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet breveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God. (Articles of Faith 1) I believe that the following given by Elder McConkie to be true and given by the spirit of the Lord and that the agony suffered in the garden of Gethsemane was more than just preparation for what was to come:

i think that when it comes to drinking drinks such as energy drinks, pepsi, coke, dr pepper etc it comes down to addiction. simply if you are addicted to these substances then you are breaking the word of wisdom. I have yet to see an official stance from the church on caffeine, other than it's harmful to the body and that the body is a temple and should be treated with respect. totally agree

possibly best summed up by the hymn 284 If You Could Hie to Kolob where W W Phelps sums it up beautifully...... 1. If you could hie to Kolob In the twinkling of an eye, And then continue onward With that same speed to fly, Do you think that you could ever, Through all eternity, Find out the generation Where Gods began to be? 2. Or see the grand beginning, Where space did not extend? Or view the last creation, Where Gods and matter end? Methinks the Spirit whispers, "No man has found 'pure space,' Nor seen the outside curtains, Where nothing has a place." 3. The works of God continue, And worlds and lives abound; Improvement and progression Have one eternal round. There is no end to matter; There is no end to space; There is no end to spirit; There is no end to race. there are other versus but basically he says there i no end to anything really. If we can comprehend this then..... wow

totally agree. but if still in doubt, talk to your Bishop about it.
