  1. I slew a drunk
  2. oh, mannn I need to go to bed, I so read the title of this thread as 'I slew a drunk' time for bed....g'night.
  3. Also, if you are too ill to go to sacrament, the priesthood can bring it to you! You can receive the sacrament in your home. That is something worth asking for, for sure. I have had to do that a couple of times. It's nice.
  4. I'm with slamjet on this one. Get yourselft tested for STD's immediately. Get a lawyer. Get with your bishop. Right Now. This is serious. He needs to know it is serious. Your kids will be adults someday, your hubby is living proof that if the parents are okay with it, the children might have to live with the same disfunction. This should not be decided on a forum. This should be discussed in your bishop's office tomorrow morning, or as soon as he can talk to you. This is like murder, in that what has been taken away from you cannot be given back. While there is forgiveness, you would be sinning to allow it to continue. “But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” (Matt. 5:27–28.) “Thou shalt not steal; neither commit adultery, nor kill, nor do anything like unto it” (D&C 59:6). You will recall Alma’s teaching his son Corianton that unchastity is the most serious offense there is in the sight of God, except for murder or denying the Holy Ghost. (See Alma 39:5.) Marion G. Romney, “We Believe in Being Chaste,” Tambuli, Feb 1982 If we imagine ourselves involved in improper things, our thoughts may influence our heart’s inclination and perhaps even our future behavior. Dr. Maxwell Maltz underscores the connection between our thoughts and our body’s nervous system: “Experimental and clinical psychologists have proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the human nervous system cannot tell the difference between an ‘actual’ experience and an experience imagined vividly and in detail.” Larry E. Dahl, “The Higher Law,” Liahona, Aug 1999,
  5. There is a pattern that I think you should be aware of. This pattern is found throughout the scriptures. You get a litte bit of communication with the Lord, usually on your part, then a test comes, if you pass the trial, you are given blessings beyond measure. Some examples of this are: Joseph Smith praying to Heavenly Father in the Sacred Grove, he sought assistance, the adversary came and tried to overwhelm him, he called out for more help, and was answered by the Father and the Son. Hannah in 1 Sam. poor Hannah you should read about her. She felt unloved by the Lord. She went to the temple and prayed, and a priest, her priest, accused her of being drunk! She could have been offended and given up, but she forgave him, and explained her plight. He answered her by saying her desire would be fulfilled. She was finally granted that son she wanted, as well as other children. Her son became the prophet Samuel, who found David. David was a boy tending his father's sheep. A bear and a lion came to eat the sheep. David wrestled and killed them! He was then sent to face the giant Goliath when the bravest men in the army were afraid. He faced that giant with the Lord's help, and later became King! Okay, this next one is my own trial. As an investigator I began reading the Book of Mormon, it started out great. I got to 2 Ne. Big, big challenge for me (and others I hear) I did manage to plough through it, and what great treasures I have found in the rest of the book! How I cried when I got to third Nephi that first time!!! Those He loves, He chastises! Prove to the adversary who's side you are on...win this battle so that you can join in on the war! Step up to your Goliath and declare that your God is bigger than him! Be bonded to the Lord, for He is mighty, and will not desert you in your time of need!
  6. I would like to share my hubbies experience this last year. He has two jobs, one he works 10-12 sometimes 14 hours a day, the other is about 20-30 hours a week, always on his feet. We have been kind of strapped on the budget because I stopped working last year. I have a heart condition that makes it hard for me to work sometimes. He is also enrolled as a full-time student. He did not take summer break, so that he can get through school faster. Last fall he was called to the bishopric. (I knew the night before, but he thought I was just being fidgetty...lol you should have seen his face when the stake pres. told him. He was so pale, even his lips went white....his mouth was hanging open!! The stake pres'y called me into the office and there he was looking at me, his mouth open, pale , a sheen of sweat on his forehead. They asked me if I would like to take a seat and I said, "I don't know, are you going to do to me what you did to him?") It was about 10 min. before the sac. meeting started when he was going to be sustained. We were also in the choir and were supposed to sing a prelude hymn. It was happening so fast it did not occur to us to say no. I can honestly say that it has been really hard, but the blessings we are getting are so abundant...like my health has gotten some better so that I can have a part-time job, and we are all learning so much, I really feel like I can ask him gospel questions and know that he is giving answers that the Lord has given him (he has not had the priesthood for long) our whole family dynamic has changed. I used to be the spiritual rock in our family, and now he is receiving and using revelation to teach us and guide us. It is wonderful. Looking back I have realized that his past callings were to prepare him for this one. Ward missionary is a really great one for having a flexible schedule...occasional evenings during the week....or going on a split with the elders...fun stuff...my hubby and I were w.m. together! Our ward emerg. prep. assistant probable does something for a sat. once every 3 months? probably some meetings in between...? You need to focus on what the Lord wants, which is what I think you are trying to do...and ask yourself what the adversary would want to happen here...are these callings to help prepare you for one later? maybe there are other possibilities that you have not considered? keep us updated okay? :)
  7. Well, here is an instance that I would like to see what other faiths would think of...one evening my family were going out to the countryside to visit my husband's parents. We were approaching a steep incline our kids call 'thrill hill' because if daddy speeds up just enough, they rise in their seats. They really look forward to this. On one occasion, instead of speeding up, my husband braked and came to a stop at the top of the hill. Standing in front of us was a large buck. If we had hit that buck, it and we could very well have died. I asked him, "how did you know?" He replied, "I saw a picture in my head of a deer smashing into the front of the car, and I braked" Would the Cessationists or non-Pentecostal/Charismatic churches think that this sudden knowledge came from the adversary? They must pray. My uncle's church prayed. When he prayed I distinctly felt like he was being heard. Do they pray without expecting an answer?
  8. Okay, for one example He took Lehi and Nephi to see the virgin Mary and the baby Jesus. It had not happened yet. 1Ne. Chapter 11. See the heading 'He sees the Mother of the Son of God...He sees the baptism, ministry, and crucifixion of the Lamb of God' six hundred years before it happened. He actually saw it while it was happening, not extrapolating a guess based on past behaviors. This is not made up, this is scripture. Don't call it time travel if you don't want to, call it whatever label makes you happy, but to discount the experience altogether because of semantics... Until you experience it yourself, please don't make fun. Nephi wasn't just told about it. He saw it. To learn about it. To share it with others. Education. The Lord was educating them. He walked on water to teach Peter a lesson about faith. Matt. ch 14. He wasn't just showing off, He could have just appeared on the boat, descended from above, got spat up by a fish, or any manner of transportation, there was a purpose.

    Feeling lost

It took quite a while for my hubby and I to be sealed. I waited to go myself and actually tried to blame our lack of forward movement on him...I had decided it was because he didn't love me. I was hard to love, fault finding, self-pitying, and finger pointing. Of course he didn't want to be sealed to me...who would want to live with that for eternity? I went to the temple a received my endowments, for the first time I fully felt the Savior's love for me, and could not deny my nature, or my purpose. My self-confidence soared and I no longer needed others to validate my existence. My husband was so struck by the change in me, in the beauty of my change, and wanted to experience it too. He eventually wanted to be sealed to this daughter of God who had discovered herself. Less than a year later he received his endowments and we were sealed in the house of the Lord for time and eternity. In order for others to love you, you must first love yourself. No one can hand you happiness, you have to go out and get it. Counselfing would be a good idea, but you have to want it bad enough to actually go. If you don't want to be invlolved in your life, your husband and children won't either. Decide to BE someone that he will want to be sealed to. It's kinda hard to find fault with him for not wanting to go to the temple when you don't want to go either. Develop a personal relationship with the Savior and don't depend on others to bring you joy. Yes you do know what to do to feel uplifted.... You already know that you should go to the temple. Don't let the Savior feel that you have abandoned Him. Read about Him and know that He experienced much worse than these things.
  10. This is something I am curious about as well, what is the difference between pastors and ministers, apostles and prophets? Are they just titles or is it an organizational structure? My uncle was a Methodist minister, he preached and explained what some scriptures were saying and how they apply to our problems today, he loved those he taught like Jesus loves us, and he helped us love one another. This seems exactly like what my bishop does, and what my husband does in our home. What is the difference really? Are church leaders in other faiths considered representatives of Christ, or considered to carry authority from God to baptize and marry etc? or they just a guide and members of those churches are left mainly on their own in life decisions, etc.? Is counsel they give considered to be counsel from the Lord and revelation? thanks, :)
  11. Okay, I know exactly what you mean. One time as a new member I wandered onto an anti site. I did not realize that was what it was at first and read some things that really effected me. I was in a little bit of a panic. It seemed so reasonable. I had changed my whole life...could it all possibly be based on a lie? Had I imagined all the miracles and influences of the Holy Ghost that I had experienced? I got down on my knees and poured out my heart to the Lord. I told Him what I had read, my doubts, and my sincere wish to simply know the truth. He answered, just like He always has. You are not now, nor have you ever been alone. Even Jesus was tempted to doubt. The first temptation Satan presented Him was not to simply break His fast, it was questioning His divinity..."IF you are the Son of God..." He tried to make the Savior question His own identity...he will try to make you question yours too. Jesus answered with scripture, simple scripture, not pages and pages, just one sentence. Pray, study, pray some more, fast...that's what Jesus did.
  12. I have also been to a church historical site, I also saw a lot of older couple missionaries there...however, I entered one building with my children and asked if my daughter could use the restroom...they were very hateful toward me, that is when I noticed their nametags...they were just a littttllllle different...I realized that another church also had property at the same historical site. The two were not divided by any physical barrier or marked in any way, so I did not notice the change immediately. Your missionaries may have been from that other church. Sorry, I'm off topic, I'll stop now.
  13. It is for educational purposes on our part. Lehi, Nephi, Isaiah, modern day prophets, you, me, etc. There is also no need for Him to walk on water, He can appear anywhere at will; but He did, for educational purposes.
  14. When sin was passed on through lineage, it was through the paternal side. He had to have an earthly parent and experience temptation in order to judge us. He can not expect us to live a life he himself was incapable of living. He had to experience and overcome in order to be a true judge, having experienced being tempted, sorrow, separation from Heavenly Father, and pain. Being tempted is not a sin. The spoken acknowledgement at Jesus' baptism wasn't just for those who were witnessing, but also for Jesus himself. While He did understand who His father was, since He spoke of it in the temple at the age of twelve, He still needed to learn His role, He had passed through the veil as well. After receiving the Holy Ghost suddenly He was given quite a bit more to learn. He fasted for forty days in the wilderness in order to come to a full realization of the nature of His relationship with His Father, and divinity. He grew in wisdom, "Christ's realization that He was the chosen and foreordained Messiah came to Him gradually.....He had much to think about, much that demanded prayer and the communion with God that prayer alone could insure. Throughout the period of retirement, he ate not, but chose to fast, that His mortal body might the more completely be subjected to His divine spirit." (Talmage, p 120) His time in the wilderness was not to repent, but to gain knowledge, accept His divinity, and speak with His Father to receive insruction before beginning His ministry. (IF He had sin, which He didn't, it would have been washed away at His baptism and receiving the Holy Ghost) Once again being the perfect example for us...first take care of your baptism and get yourself on the right path, then worry about others.
  15. Okay, so my hubby is 2nd couns. and I sit right in front of him so we can waggle our eyebrows at each other...anyway last Sund. a sister stood up to give her talk. Immediately the Bishop is holding his breath...my hubby looks like he is choking, he turns red, then purple, I'm just about ready to jump up and give him CPR when he spots me and nods his head towards the sister. She gave a perfectly normal talk. What we couldn't see was that she had stuck a long bit of toilet paper to hang down the back of her skirt...with a note at the end that said, "Just kidding," but the note had fallen off, and they didn't see it until the talk was almost over. She sat down, took up the t.p. and wiped her eyes with it. That was it, the bishopric was doubled over laughing and no one knew why.
  16. When my bro. was training in Panama they had night vision exercises. They had the buddy system. Night vision goggles...at night...in a tropical rainforest. My bro. took cover...his partner went crashing between two trees and paused, "What's that?" he whispered to my bro. My bro. said, "um, never mind just get down and get over here by me." Too late............ a giant spider arm came down over the guy's goggles, slowly carressed his face, and grasped his chin. You guessed it...gave away their position.
  17. I'm sorry about that, and I think we will all get to see a more detailed picture later on, and it will be easier to understand. It took me years and years to finally see how things have been for developing my faith and reliance on the Lord. I guess sometimes that enduring to the end means enduring not being able to understand why things have to be the way they are.
  18. I second that, I think he will appreciate your dedication to returning to the path your Heavenly Father has asked you to walk. If your stake pres. is anything like mine, they already know and are waiting for you to return. Like the prodigal son, those to whom your care is entrusted will rejoice and be willing to help you change your life for the better! Every time I have spoken with my stake pres.y I have felt the love that my Heavenly Father has for me...if you do need to go through some disc. process you should know that it is not just for 'punishment' but will be a cleansing process, to help you let go of past deeds and habits. I'm pleased at your courage, hang in there!:)
  19. mine too, applepansy, Bishop is more than a full time job. My Bishop works with me, and my hubby is 2nd couns. He , the Bishop, has found that people, nonmembers and all, now approach him at all hours for advice. ALL HOURS, while he doesn't complain about it, he is in a kind of awe at the responsibility of it all. Babysitting is a great idea, I think, He will find it really hard to get temple time and wife time. I wish more members understood how extremely important Home teaching is to the Bishop, that is the best way of making sure the ward's families are doing okay. It is best for him to be proactive, and not reactive by sending priesthood holders into homes before the problems start, rather than waiting for a gusher of a problem to force the family to approach the Bishop who may have no idea what is going on. Small problems can often be solved by friendly home teachers, aleviating the habit of approaching the Bishop when he may be needed elsewhere for things home teachers can't handle. Though, I know that bit of advice has nothing to do with you in particular, it is a bit of a beef of mine. Yeah, I feel a little better now. :)
  20. That reminds me that my daughter had a HUGE problem with crickets when she was little. There always seemed to be one hiding somewhere at bedtime... I tried to comfort her and said, "I think it's just calling for it's mommy" She replied (4 yrs. old) "no, it's calling for REINFORCEMENTS!!!" I then passed her to daddy
  21. Yes, though he does not use the word 'genes'. Talmage wrote on p. 18 "Adam realized the disparity that had been brought between him and his companion, and with some measure of understanding followed her course..." then quotes Paul "Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression" 1 Tim. 2:14, also 2 Cor. 11:3 He further explains on p 19 that by man, Adam, was death brought, and by man, Jesus Christ, shall all be made alive. He quotes Paul again "For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive" 1 Cor. 15:21,22 Being son of a woman gave Him the knowledge of good and evil, in His physical state after passing through the veil, and also being Son of God gave Him the ability to lay down and take up life, at will. The best of both worlds. For Jesus, who gave us an example of priesthood ordinances not being performed on oneself, His resurrection was not an ordinance for Him. But ours will be similar to it, being done as an ordinance through the power of the priesthood, and not under our own power. John 5: 25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. 26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall *hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. After Jesus was resurrected, there were people who came out of their graves in their immortal forms (Matt. 27:52-53), through His priesthood power, and we will too. *By His mouth, or by the mouth of His servants, it is the same.
  22. D & C 124 49 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that when I give a commandment to any of the sons of men to do a work unto my name, and those sons of men go with all their might and with all they have to perform that work, and cease not their diligence, and their enemies come upon them and hinder them from performing that work, behold, it behooveth me to require that work no more at the hands of those sons of men, but to accept of their offerings. 50 And the iniquity and transgression of my holy laws and commandments I will visit upon the heads of those who hindered my work, unto the third and fourth generation, so long as they repent not, and hate me, saith the Lord God
  23. D & C 121: 25 For there is a time appointed for every man, according as his works shall be. My father died when I was young, I have never really spent a lot of time wondering what could have been. I have spent a lot of time thinking that I would be a completely different person had I not faced the challenges that I have faced. I know that he is waiting to see me again, and that all this will seem as the blink of an eye. The miracle came before and after, and possibly during the death. Have eyes that see, and you will know this too. If someone asks me who the "guy in charge," is, I think I'll just try to point at a picture of Jesus.
