  1. I just realized that you aren't a Latter-day Saint, If my comment seemed rude I apologize. I tend to use sarcasm when I shouldn't and I forget how it can come off as. We believe our bodies are God's temple. Our bodies are sacred, It's just a peeve of mine that many shrug off modesty standards as being all about not tempting the opposite sex when I believe it's so much more than that. Our bodies are sacred gifts from God and are to be respected. You just happened to land on something that people say that bugs me sometimes.
  2. I'm not sure why this matters. On one hand it stands to reason that Christ was baptized to show us how it's done, that he'd also get married much for the same reason. But you know what, Jesus was God before He had a body. Therefore he need not be married here on earth to attain celestial glory since he was already there. I'm not sure how that works. I'd chalk this up to "I have no idea, It's possible but it's never explicitly stated." We know that we are commanded to be sealed for eternity in God's temple.
  3. A sacrament or two ago my 9 year old son actually remarked on the *absence* of screaming babies and how weird it was. Fortunately moments after he spoke a baby relieved of us of the burden of silence. We both shared a quiet giggle at that. I don't think there's any good way to approach it. If it's a pattern then it needs to addressed. A one time thing, well you had your bad experience and now it's over. As a parent I know what's it like to just want to be in sacrament but I can't because my child always screams so here I am all alone it out in the foyer sunday after sunday, on top of whatever other stresses they are dealing with... what should be their weekly spiritual break isn't. I guess I just emphasize *a lot* with parents dealing with difficult kids. But if there's 4 adults one child, are they new? Are they just not aware that usually people take screaming children out? Investigators? Something of that nature?
  4. Why do modesty discussions always have to turn to this, it's not always about others. Modesty is about respect for your body, it's sacred nature, and that it isn't for everyone's eyes. My that sounds like we are talking about a temple, I wonder why.
  5. I think that's a huge disservice to the detrimental effects of alcohol. It's a carcinogen, it's a psychoactive drug that plagues humanity, even if you only account for poor decisions made while under it's influence. It can straight up kill you. Dead. That's pretty darn adverse to your long-term health. I've never drank a 2-liter of soda and woke up the next day wishing I had died because the hangover is so severe (Yes, I was a bad teenaged boy who drank for a couple of years, I actually know what it's like) The worst you can say about soda is it's sugary (hello diet sugar free soda) and it's slightly acidic, maybe replacing what could be a good and nourishing drink in its place. Even the caffeine content of your typical cola is a drop in the water up against coffee and energy drinks. It takes something like 10 12 oz cans in one day to hit the "recommended maximum of caffeine for a healthy individual". I mean yeah, soda is not exactly the best thing around, particularly the sugary kind. But I don't think it holds a candle to alcohol.
  6. Explained that way, I can understand it. I guess it makes sense, many men, even non-latter-day saints choose to wear a cotton undershirt for the same reasons. Edit: I realized it was confusing who I was responding too sans quote, but I can't for the life of me figure out how I'm supposed to quote a specific person in edit mode. I don't even see a way to view as plain text and write the bbc code for the quote like we used to be able to.
  7. Adimittly I do live in a dry area however I do recognize that humidity sucks! I am surprised about you perfering cotton in high humidity, I actually found it, as you stated, absorbed sweat. But I also found that it held onto the sweat and just turned into a damp swamp in unsavory places. Maybe when I visit a high humidity place myself I'll have to put your words to the test and see what I think.
  8. I have to say I just don't get the "garments are too hot" thing. I live in a place with high of around 115 degree summer temps. I live in a hot place. I've also lived in Phoenix Arizona and while it was a little bit hotter there, it wasn't much hotter. I wear garments, long pants almost every day, and occasionally I've even worn long sleeved shirts during the summer. While I work indoors, I work in a huge distribution center, it is not cooled by a/c and it gets hot in there, particularly as you get close to the roof in equipment. I sweat a lot at work. What I do (did, I work in the office now, with an a/c, it's nice) is fairly difficult manual labor. The thought never crossed my mind to remove my garments for this sweaty 12 hour workday of mine. Personally I'd just work out in a loose shirt and shorts. Wear the nylon mesh garments if you like, they are fantastic for sweaty situations. They are barely there!
  9. ...wait... does gray scaling the image count? *slowly backs away *frantically searches for a new avatar.
  10. Mods should weild mighty mod hammers, and mod boots. The hammer is the admin ban, the boots are for kicking. I am unaware of what the hat does. All this uncertainty makes me uncertain.
  11. Relaize that there are pages of this thread I have not yet read, but I wanted to repsond to this. I actuaIly go opposite on this. If you legitimately don't think there are things in your life you would like to change before Christ's return then I'd suggest you are too comfortable in your sins. I would hope that such knowledge would at least hasten your work on bettering yourself.
  12. Sugar in prudence is just fine. It's only when it's consumed in excess that problems arise. There's a reason moderation in all things is a popular saying. Technically doesnt all of our energy come from sugar, protein, fats, complex carbs are all broken down into a sugar inside our bodies.
  13. I have one small thing to add. I did not serve a mission. I made some big mistakes, I confessed before my endowment. During the repentance process I met a girl, I honestly didn't think a mission was an option anymore. I proposed to her. Then the stake president tells me I can serve my mission. I choose to get married to her in the Temple instead. I love my wife deeply, I love the family we have together. But I will always regret not choosing to serve a mission. I feel like a Jonah to a degree. I would advice you to give the Lord His two years and let life sort itself after that.
  14. But wait, I thought intoxicated persons cannot consent to sex, phew, why she almost raped him since she was sober!
  15. I like the suggestion for Latter-day Saint Hub. It's an equivalent to the phrasing "mormonhub". I cast all 3.5k of my votes for it.
  16. I just can't help, everytime this sort of thing props up. If a drunk woman began taking off a man's clothes and he was able to dip out before she could finish. Would it ever come back to haunt her? I guess that isn't useful. It doesn't matter much. I don't know which story to believe. Heck I could believe Kavanaugh actually did do it, but has zero recollection of the event. Alcohol has that effect. It's entirely possible he's a great guy, we have all of those character witnesses, but even great people do really stupid things, particularly when they are intoxicated. Let's play pretend, let's say we find out that there's a video of a heavily intoxicated, barely able to walk Kavanaugh attempting to clumsily take off a woman's clothes all these years ago. Let's pretend this is the only nick we can find. Maybe I'd like to look harder at other nominations, but does it *really* make him unfit to be a supreme court justice? I'm not really convinced of that. Maybe if there was some sort of pattern. Maybe if there were other issues with his character. Maybe if he had drinking issues to this day it would matter more to me. But... I don't know, the time, the youth, the intoxication... doesn't make it right, but, I can't say it colors my view too darkly of who he is now really.
  17. @LatterDSaint Man, I left the republican party when Trump got the republican nomination. I actually am not a registered republican specifically because I dislike trump *so* much that I felt if he represented the republican party, than I must not be a republican. I don't just dislike him, I can't stand him. I still consider myself a conservative, just more of a Rand Paul type of conservative. Now with that in mind even I think you are being over the top ridiculous with your statements regarding Trump and Kavanaugh (although admittedly I'm not following the Kavanaugh thing, at all).
  18. No sweat. I was intending on rocking myself to sleep in the fetal position tonight anyways!
  19. I'm not sure how to take that. I sooooooo don't look like Alex Jones.
  20. I used some tool to make my blue cartoon, guy. Maybe I'll have to make another. I got bored of him!
  21. I hate to break it to you Vort, but Jim Carrey has indeed stared in A Christmas Carol. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1067106/ I'm rather partial to A Muppet Christmas Carol myself. Btw, I love Marilyn Mansions cover of Tainted Love. His cover of Halloween is also fantastic. I can't say I know what makes songs that seem to speak to everyone tick. I'm pretty sure why certain people are attracted to certain types of music should be a scientific field if it isn't already. I've always wondered why it is I'm drawn in particular to sadder, depressing music, or to angry, powerful sounding music. Why I'm typically irritated by bouncy happy music, or at least can only take it in small doses.
  22. I was a freshman in High School. I always had breakfast at the high school after seminary because I lived in a different town. I remember walking in and seeing the smoking towers on the tv. Me not knowing what the towers were, I, I guess arrogantly, remarked "What's that all about, we bomb somebody?" someone at the table said "No, someone bombed us". I still remember my surprise, like, was it possible for anyone to bomb us!? I remember being disappointed in the wake of it all, with peoples hostile reactions to Arabian's (I think I'm using that wrong, Arabs? people of Arabic descent? Middle Eastern? idk)/Muslims in the following weeks.
  23. I think there are far more lurkers than you realize. There's a rule out there that states something like for every 1 active poster, there are 99 lurkers typically. Although I doubt the ratio is actually that severe, I know the ratio of lurkers to posters is typically very, very high. You also have to keep in mind that this is a public forum that will turn up in google searches.
