  1. Am I a terrible person for laughing? My face went from surprised, to laughing, to disgusted about 4 or 5 times in 2 seconds. The kitten in the blender looks so sad!
  2. Expanding on that I fully believe that if you knew the LDS church was true, but became a (fill in blank here) using the logic that was presented, it wouldn't bode well imo.
  3. Is this really turning into a trinity thing? I originally wasn't sure how I felt about a perfect being creating imperfect creations, and therefore God must be perfect as in without sin only. Some of the posters brought up good points however that I find myself nodding my head to, and I thank them for those posts. It mostly reconciled the issue for me.
  4. It was not authorized by the first presidency, in fact it was denounced by the first presidency. Only the first presidency can authorize such a publication as being authoritative. To my knowledge only the first presidency can speak for the church as a whole, they can at times delegate that authority out as needed. In this case authority was not delegated out. Only the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price are official doctrine of the Church.
  5. I honestly wasn't sure, I'll just crawl back into my box now.
  6. Isn't vort male?
  7. Seeing this made me think of a post I saw an facebook, for some reason attaching the image failed so.... It's an image of a note stuck to a fridge that reads: To the food stealers, It has been about a month now since my brownies started disappearing randomly. Even though my name was on the tub. My husband helped my 9yo daughter bake them for me, so I hope you enjoyed them as much as I couldn't. My previous fridge notes fell on deaf ears, so I decided to take more direct action. So I made an anonymous report to HR. Something about culture of drug use and the potential liability to the company blah blah. That is why we all had to do a random drug screen yesterday. And did I forget to mention that for the last two weeks I have been spiking the brownies with marijuana? Not much, not enough to give you a buzz. Just enough to show up on a drug screen. CHECKMATE (note, I am not suggesting you try this approach )
  8. This is mainly me just musing but I was wondering if I could get some opinions. To me there is more than one way to interpret perfect. Perfect - As in Toast is golden brown every time, you can't make an error. Perfect - As in without sin Perfect - As in complete, whole. Is God perfect as in toast is golden brown every time or is he perfect as in without sin? I am beginning to think He is perfect as in without sin, with a vast amount of knowledge and wisdom.
  9. I think it's reasonable to assume he (Abraham) did have scripture. Seeing as God instructed many of his prophets to write things down, why would he take a different stance on more ancient prophets. There were records found among the dead sea scrolls that claim to be written by prophets before Abraham. I'm just saying "unreasonable" seems to be way to strong a word for this scenario.
  10. Wow, this went from ironic joke to serious. While I would never get a Tattoo (for more reasons than church counsel), back in my rebellious years I did have 2 piercings, I guess I wasn't that rebellious, I went with piercings specifically because I could chose to remove it later.
  11. I'm thinking of a mock of the uncle sam poster but with Brigham Young, the slogan would be "The danites want YOU!" I'm sure a better slogan could be thought up.
  12. See my then-soon-to-be-wife had me call my then-soon-to-be-father-in-law from Catalina Island and tell him that I asked her to marry me. He said "Well that's just great" with a good deal of sarcasm. Looking back, I probably should've talked to her parents before hand. Particularly since they aren't LDS, and we are.
  13. My professor (who is LDS btw) caught our class not once but twice with an elaborate story. The first one was about how he stepped on a crocodile, the second about a lady trying to let him pick up her tab at Target. He spun both tails wonderfully in a believable way and ended with some variant of, "and then I pulled her leg, just like I'm pulling yours." Our whole class won't believe a story he tells now.
  14. LDS tattoo Ideas deserves it's own thread. I guess a portrait of Gordon B. Hinckley would get you a stern talking to when you meet him in the next life.
  15. I'm sure all the clean shaven men will be forgiven one day, all that vanity thinking they look pretty with smooth cheeks. O.o (Forums should adopt an "this is a lame joke" font so no one takes me seriously)
  16. Look, you can pretend the poo is animal shapes. (why does it feel like I'm messing that sentence up horribly?)
  17. I would actually go for ancient, ancient civilization, "when all a man had was his sheep, his cane, and his beard." I'm sure it would be great for like... 2 days. It's easy to romanticize the idea of simpler times and a good hard days work, for a loaf of bread. Although It would be nice to not be so cooped up into buildings all the time, to not have to micro manage my time, and to raise my own food.
  18. I actually cried a little bit while watching that, my heart goes out to the parents. The passerby's not doing a thing, the people that HIT the toddler is more disconcerting to me, how can they just leave the accident, leave that child there? It's sickening to me, particularly when talking about a helpless child. This really strikes home for since I have a 2 year old myself.
  19. I guess I can understand that, the only dish I've made that calls for the stuff has a cheesy Marsala Wine sauce, it's sold as a cooking wine, doesn't look like a wine bottle. It doesn't call for much and the wine adds a characteristic taste. I'd probably would steer clear of it if it's not sold specifically as a cooking wine.
  20. Not answering the question but, what's wrong with using red wine in cooking? The alcohol cooks out.
  21. I wanted to be clear I meant society accepting the behaviors as normal, even encouraged. Yes I was speaking about societies acceptance of homosexual behavior, although it could be extended to societies social acceptance of males viewing porn as normal and even healthy (to the point that women are looked down on if they have an issue with it). I want to make it very clear I am talking about the behavior, not the people. I know the word deviant may have a negative connotation, but it simply means a behavior that differs from the normal, or majority behavior. From my perspective homosexual behavior is a sexual deviant behavior, I'm in no way trying to demonize people with that statement. I have a hard time calling viewing of pornography as deviant (since in our society it certainly seems to be the standard), although I certainly feel it violates the sacredness of the act, among other things. I have personally a lot of trouble with people stating they knew their orientation at a very early age, I mean I had no idea I liked women until I was like 11, then the hormones hit. I can't help but feel the pattern goes something like, "it's okay for men to look at porn" "it's okay for men and women to look at porn" "it's okay for children to have sex with other children (meaning under 18)" "it's okay for men to have sex with men" "it's okay for groups to have sex" and etc....
  22. I love that movie!
  23. I've been saying the general acceptance of one form of sexual deviation may lead to general acceptance of more extreme forms of sexual deviation, such as children and animals. I was told that I was being ridiculous. I really hope I was.
  24. I've never thought about it that way, but I don't feel it does condemn since it isn't officially canonized, and it's considered by believers to be an inspirational restoration to the original text. If you believe Joseph Smith was a false prophet I suppose it does fit the bill however if you believe he was a true prophet, then it's an inspired restoration. Normally the JST isn't quoted from, sometimes in Sunday School we'll refer to it in discussions for further clarification.
  25. I'm sure LDS Missionaries have been impostered (i think i just invented a word...) before in that sort of light.
