  1. I am curious, what IS a mild drink made from barely? The only drink I can think of that is made from grains is beer, and I'm pretty sure that is not what it means.
  2. Since you pointed the error out, now you don't get fired (or worse) later down the road when they figure out why their company is in the hole and want to know why you didn't say anything. Honesty is a trait to rare these days, embrace it!
  3. offtopic, but I thought it was a revision of previous English bibles with some translation from Greek and Hebrew sources.
  4. Consider your analogy stolen.
  5. "The Giver" isn't on there O.o, I love that book.
  6. I'm glad you've made the decision to start attending church again! Welcome back! I know after I decided to go back, it wasn't easy for me to get back in the habit of it. Once I started feeling the spirit again, praying and studying my scriptures again, I feel like my whole week has something missing when I miss church. Remember, everyone in that congregation is a sinner, everyone is welcome to come to church. Most people have made more mistakes then you realize. Did you have specific questions?
  7. (offtopic) Am I the only one who notices that marriage and the family unit make great analogies for our relationship to God?
  8. I may be a bit late to the thread but I grew up in a small lds population, we were a tight knit group and supported each other. We had a "mormon" table in the cafeteria. My town was very small and VERY religious, so we had a spotlight of sorts on us and we knew it. Many friends from my home town I consider close friends to this day, even though we are states apart. I think growing up in either small population or large population lds area's have their own set of unique challenges and boons. Living in a large population of lds may make it easier to just coast on by on the fence, but at the same time I believe those same fence sitters would be following the def facto herd were they in a low lds population. Here we make fun of Utah mormons, but all in good humor, at least what I've heard. I would personally find being strict to the commandments more difficult if many around me was a so called "jack-mormon" rather than having only a few lds around me who mostly held to their values.
  9. Mathew 24:23-28 23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great dsigns and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25 Behold, I have told you before. 26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. 27 For as the lightning cometh out of the beast, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
  10. We believe in modern day revelation, why does the answer have to reside in The Holy Bible? I would simply say I made a covenant with God to wear them.
  11. I actually just printed it and ironed it to a T-shirt, I don't want ANYONE forgeting
  12. I know! I could literally throw a stone and hit a building (okay, maybe not but it's 2 blocks away from my apartment), but I go to one 10 minutes away. Everywhere I have lived I drive past a ward or 2 to get to mine. Drives me nuts.
  13. Whole heatedly agree, many people don't realize there are bots that actively scan publicly viewable forums like this one for emails and personal information.
  14. I can't recall exactly where it's at but I believe Jesus himself is quoted as saying at his next coming it will not be as a man among you. Can't get much more specific than that.
  15. And yet people do do that don't they? A man with a full beard (even if it's neatly trimmed) vs a clean shaven man in an office job interview with equal credentials, who get's the job? The clean shaven man, I can almost guarantee it.
  16. What is death? It's not an end, perhaps I don't know the actuality of it, I have never lost someone close to me, but I don't view death (edit) of a righteous man (/edit) as a terribly bad thing. Just a temporary separation. I suppose your view on death is different than mine? This thread needs some good cheer, much to heavy for my taste :)
  17. You say that as if it is a bad thing!
  18. I very nearly died an eternal death due to my own transgressions. I, as a parent, would rather my son died a righteous man than fall away due to transgression. That is not to say if he did transgress I would prefer him dead, I love my son and I personally know what the atonement can do for you. I'm sorry if that's clear as mud to you but that's the clearest I can express my thoughts.
  19. I think the statement is to put the gravity of sexual sin into perspective. The world wants you to believe the law of chastity is not a big deal.
  20. I enjoyed reading that transcript from Margaret Barker, I had no idea there was evidence of the old testament being modified so long ago.
  21. I had to look it up as well, sounds like every ward just found their answer for reactivating their inactivates! ...who is that knocking aggressively at my door?
  22. While I'm not purporting child marriage, that research was far from conclusive.
  23. It also depends on if you want to bulk up, or simply get shape and definition. To bulk up you lift heavy (say 3 sets of 5 - 10 reps). If you just want to get stronger and get defined muscles you would do more like 3-5 sets of 15 - 20 reps. This varies by person but 1000-1200 calories a day probably isn't enough for you to gain muscle. I personally have to eat about 2800 calories to start putting on weight. Add healthy calories to your diet, add some peanut butter toast to breakfast etc... Drink a glass of milk with it. Throw some olive oil on your salad etc... Also take everything I say with a grain of salt edit: Also your working out ALOT, muscles do take time to repair themselves, the bigger the muscle, the longer it takes to repair, either take a day off between lifting sessions or work alternating groups of muscles on different days. Keep up the aerobics to keep off the fat, cut them down a little bit if you find you are having trouble gaining muscle mass.
  24. I think you guys forget just what the Bible, Book of Mormon, and Pearl of Great Price are. They are simply a collection inspired writings of prophets. I think it's pretty clear from quotes of prophets provided in this thread that the church considers the writings and addresses of modern day prophets to be scripture. Seeing as we believe in modern revelation that makes perfect sense.
  25. I've always had the atonement explained to me as Jesus being a middleman, paying our debt to god, now owing our debt to him. Not getting away scot free. The repentance process is your suffering now for your actions rather than latter after death. edit: I guess this is getting off topic though isn't it
