"Are you tougher than a Boy Scout?"
jerome1232 replied to skippy740's topic in Priesthood Quorums and Scouting
This winter, I had trouble keeping my fireplace which has a gas log starter going. I guess I have some burshing up to do to live up to my eagle rank. -
The problem is the Invicible Children Organization wants to arm the Ugandian army (not sure why changed is talking about Kabila... is that where Kony is now?) The Ugandian government is also guilty of some of the same things commited by Kony (from what I can garner, to a much lesser extent it seems) Another issue is the way the non-profit spends it's money, some of the film makers are making $89 a year (about 3% of all money donated goes to 3 guys at the head of the organization) Many of their programs have also failed in Uganda. The good is I've seen great praise for their school reconstruction projects, I think lending advisors and scouting technology to african governments trying to capture Kony is a great idea. The video they made was designed to tug at the heart and raise awareness, I don't have a problem with it's one sidedness. I'm still confused about why changed is talking about Kabila, my understanding is this particualr non-profit is primarily focused on Uganda. I also don't see you backing up your claim about what this Kony guy is fighting for, your word alone won't convince me that was a lie by the film makers.

I think it is worth mentioning another side of the coin (this is some critism about the invisible children non-profit) Visible Children - KONY 2012 Criticism edit: I wanted to note that I do agree with some of the critisim, however I think overall the non-profit is doing a good thing, and the way they are utilizing social media to get their cause out and known about is spectacular.

The bit about what the original aggreement entailed was enlightening for me.

Half Million People could lose Internet in the coming weeks.

Again, the trojan wasn't directed at infecting DNS servers it was directed at infecting client computers. To my knowledge a DNS servers DNS settings wouldn't affect which DNS server it runs to when it doesn't know the answer since it knows other DNS servers by ip not by name, (if i recall correctly, it's been a long time since I've messed with bind9 to be honest, I could be wrong) I didn't think about Windows DNS servers being infected, the fact that this is a trojan doesn't lend itself well to infecting a server, if someone is surfing questionable websites on the admin account on a SERVER and downloading codecs, well they need a very, very stern lesson on server security. BTW a quick google search, shows the trojan works on OSX. -

As I read it, it is somewhat relevant. They didn't infect already existing DNS servers, they setup rogue DNS servers and created a trojan which set your ip settings to use their rogue DNS server. As far as I can tell the trojan was also capable of attacking your router, I'm assuming a computer attached to the router had to run the trojan to do so, making OS still somewhat relevant. All this is moot really since the trojan was written Macintosh and they were affected. -
Trolling? I don't understand how someone can claim they don't believe in a literal satan in the face of scripture and what our prophets have said. Especially when Christ and Moses had conversations with him, again, how do you justify that belief?
-
So, do you believe Christ is lying when he talks about Satan?

Unrelated in a way but, I'm glad I drive a bike which gets about 70 mpg right now.

If you watch the video the suckers expand to 9 times their weight in your stomach, therefore they would contribute to a full stomach rather quickly. My understanding is lean sources of protein are great for losing weight.

For a minute I thought you were stringing us all along on a grand joke, then I googled it and it's oh so real.

Is there a compelling reason for him to not translate into the same English he was used to scripture being written in? Although I'm certainly not very educated in this light, I've heard from other sources that this is somewhat debatable. Regardless I haven't heard of any proven, glaring errors in the KJV that would warrant a shift to another translation. It is incomplete and unfinished, even though it's referred to as the JST, it's better thought of as inspired commentary, not translation. The few parts that are completed are included in the Pearl of Great Price and are used in our standard works. I was genuinely curious about your view the sections I asked you about earlier, I wasn't expecting the spit and venom you shot back. I haven't had time to go and reread it since I did quickly glance and may have gotten it out of context. In my experience if you want to educate someone about another way of seeing things, patient teaching works much better than beating it in with a cudgel, sharp retorts, and boasting of your own intellect. I have personally learned a lot on these forums about mainstream Christianity that I previously misunderstood from posters like PrisonChaplain (chiefly the Trinity)

I feel these are biblical accounts that suggest there are varying degree's of glory, what is your interpretation? 1 Corianthains 3:8 "Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labor." 1 Corianthains 15:40-42 "There are also celestial bodies and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:" The JST inserts telestial in the first verse as well, to correspond with the 3rd glory of the stars. We believe that the physical resurection is the free portion of the atonement. To be exalted, we will be judged by our works based on our ability, my own personal belief is alot hangs on individual effort, his grace makes up for where we fall short if he judges us worthy to enter the kingdom of God. As I understand it we believe the vast majority of people will make it to the lower two kingdoms, few will make it to the highest degree of glory. edit: Preganacy occures in stages, therefore 1 month pregnant isn't "as pregnant" as 8 months pregnant. One who is 1 month pregnant will not necesarily get to 8 months (as terrible as that sounds). -
I think it's inconsiquential, we are teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, to us "joining the church" is synomynus with coming to know Jesus. I feel there is a misconception that we don't focus on Christ and I feel it is at play with your logic, since that is what you continulay seem to suggest as a major difference between Mormons and mainstream christanity. Either baptism is a saving ordiance or it isn't, you can't eat your cake and have it to. As I interpret it baptism is the new birth. If baptism is not a saving ordinance as you claim then why do Christian churches baptize? Why was Jesus baptized?

I thought about that, but you also note that there was light on day 1. Now if you read in Moses it says "...Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven, to divide the day from the night, and let them be for signs,..." Could it be referring only to the distant stars? In Abraham it is much the same as in Moses. Either way it is clear there is light from day 1, regardless of if there is a sun or not. What I am unsure of is how to interpret there being light before the stars, sun and moon. Perhaps emanating from God himself? Perhaps some other natural phenomena?

Unfortunately I work 12 hour shifts over the weekends and can't attend church, perhaps I should start attending Institute.

I just got a brand new set of scriptures, and some brand new colored pencils. I just marked up Genesis Chapter 1 last night and it was fun! This is the first time I've really gone through the scriptures like this in a very long time. Right now I'm just circling superscripts the pertain to HEB, GR, IE, OR entries in the footnotes, and with TG suggestions. Jotted down a few notes in the margins about the creation. and shaded in some key words that pertained to my margin notes. Does anyone have some tips on how to study/annotate as I go along?
