Trying to Verify/Debunk a New Urban Legend
ClickyClack replied to Just_A_Guy's topic in Church News and Events
It's doubtful that you'll get a positive, official assertion. But, let's do some math. If they normall get 200 per week, and boys can go a year earlier, they could conceivably get an extra 52 weeks * 200/week = 10,000 applications. So 7,000 doesn't seem unrealistic. I know a number of boys and girls who were waiting to reach the appropriate age, and put in their papers as soon as that was announced. At one point there were about 55,000 missionaries out at once, which would be in the ballpark of 500 applications/week, so 200/week seems completely plausible. If anything, the claimed 200/week may be low, which would make the "surge" of 7,000 applications even more realistic. -
I've shot an LCP and an LC9, I liked the LC9 more. Longer sight radius makes it easier to aim, it actually seemed somewhat softer-recoiling than the LCP, and you're firing a much more effective round than the LCP.

Alright.... treading into "mormon myth" territory here. Or at least third-hand info. I was told by one gentleman that his grandfather was a VERY grumpy old man. Not long after his grandmother passed away, his grandfather started changing and becoming much more friendly. It turns out that the grandmother came back to visit the grandfather, and told him: "Where I am, everything we do is motivated by love. Unless you learn to be motivated by love, you cannot come where I am." So, does that mean that we will have an increase of affection? Maybe sorta. Once all of your other motivations, worries, and obligations that come with mortal life are stripped away (no more paying the bills, being to work on time, fixing three meals each day for the kids, etc.), perhaps we are able to focus more fully on loving other people.

Are you kidding? It's THE singles program! But my favorite description of single's wards came from the bishop of one... "It's a bunch of sixes that are looking for tens." -
Spanish... now there's where you get a lot of names. Although I did once baptize a lady whose surnames were Gutierrez Gutierrez de Gutierrez. Anyway, OP, when my wife's brother got married, he took his wife's surname. No idea why, he never gave any reason. His family was pretty unhappy about it. How your family would take it, only you can say.

And that emotional scariness makes some people lose all logic and reason. People happily let their children partake in activities that are FAR more dangerous than having a gun in the home, and never give it a second thought, because those activities just don't feel as scary as the idea of being shot. Our brains are still wired to evaluate risk in a way that made sense for most of human history, but not for our modern society. A huge number of people literally give no thought whatsoever to the most dangerous activities that we partake in as a society, yet they go to huge lengths to try to prevent terribly tiny risks.

I see that posts in this thread have disappeared. I humbly apologize for my thread hijacking and derailment.

Safe Subjects..... Your Health and the Weather.

I was in that camp. I have naturally small sinuses, and naturally thick mucous. (Yuck!) But, I've found that as soon as it sets in, if I start on sudafed to keep cleared out and ibuprofen every 8 hours for the inflammation, I can often avoid having it develop into an acute sinusitis. Besides, these days, it seems like $4 amoxicillin has fallen out of vogue, whenever you get a sinus infection, they want to give you $100 levaquin. I have an in-law who doesn't believe that people can actually get sick by being around other sick people and their germs. People get sick, because - in his words - "It's just something they do to themselves, mentally." Nobody in the family challenges him. We just say "OK, Mike.", and move on. -

There are some places where open carry of a loaded firearm is still illegal, and where the concealed weapons permit ONLY allows you to carry concealed. Thus, a "wardrobe malfunction" can show your pistol and get you in hot water. Thankfully, that is not the case in Utah.

I am all for it! Anybody else up for it

It sounds like there are enough shooters (or those that would like to) that we should have a get together at a range before the weather turns too nippy!

Sounds good, sounds good... details? What are some of your computer use rules? Do they lose just facebook, or all of it?

How much of a maturity difference between 1.5yo & 2yo?

Even if she quits those things (which she probably will) in half of a year, she'll start doing other things that will make life... interesting. Little kids are handfuls no matter what. -
That's only true if it is unloaded.

Here's the real question: What did he say when it was mentioned to him that he made them feel uncomfortable? If the answer is "Out of all of those people, nobody mentioned it to him", then it couldn't have made them feel all THAT uncomfortable, now could it?

I've heard that, but never understood it. I've seen them zip right through car doors myself. In any event, a 9mm+p, a .40, and a .45 all have similar power. 40 years ago, with poor bullets, diameter mattered. Today, with vastly better bullets, it doesn't, they're all quite equal. Likewise, 40 years ago, your selection of good, high quality pistols was highly limited. These days, there are so many good ones that the hardest part is just picking your preference.

Reenact the duel of wits. Maybe one drink made with sugar, another made with salt.

Yeah. "Getting over" someone often takes a conscious decision and effort to do so, not just passive waiting and hoping.

Because you invested a lot of time and effort into getting exactly what you wanted, and your husband came along and screwed it all up. Take a project of his, and ask him what he would do if you changed it. Say, if he likes to work on cars, ask how he'd feel if you went and painted a big red heart on his hood.

Streets are about to get more dangerous.

From what I've heard from folks who have done it, getting an illegal gun, with the barrel and bolt face marred takes as much as a few hours. Faster than making your own. Not very well. Unless you're going to go completely totalitarian, laws just make criminals shift their methods. Just like all of the regulation on pseudoephedrine was going to make it harder to make meth, but didn't - the criminals just started getting it from different sources. -
Only if what you've done is so grievous that the Spirit would withdraw completely. I don't know what you've done, but it doesn't sound like it's near that point. But, I have to ask... why do you need to ask? Is your relationship with the Lord not at the point where you could simply kneel down, pray, and see if you receive promptings and answers? If it's not, then I would (humbly) suggest that getting your relationship with Him to that point would be a very important part of your repentance.
