  1. What was the Grand Council in heaven for then? Simply to receive instructions from God? I beleive that there was some "have to happen" items that God let everyone know about. And the rest like "...Hey, let's talk about that". We were invited to come along or not, but I think that there was more of our (those in the council) input or decisions that you think. Again. Just my opinion. Was it a take it or leave it? Well, it was in the sense of progression. You either do these things to progress, or you will not progress. Something like "Look, you want to have what I have? There are a few things that need to happen, receive a body...Need a Savior..." But the rest? I think there was some talk about it. As it is here on Earth. We have principles that are unmoving, but there is a lot of area where there is debate or personal decisions involved that could all be correct.
  2. That could be a reason they suggested it. But speculation on why is moot. What was said was "all a doctor will do is prescribe you pills and if you want to take harmful pills for the rest of your life " . Really? All Doctors want to do is give you harmful pills? Do I think that we are over medicated as a society? I do. I beleive in a process. Your first option is not always the doctor. Try out different diets and see if that helps. Study your own simptoms and see if there is anything you can do differently with sleep etc. If then the problem still persists, seek a professional. I am not talking about your standard pediatrician and is supposed to know a tad about everything. I think you should get to someone who specializes in the one field you need and see if it works. The body is a very complicated thing, it is not a truck that you can simply plug a comuper into and know what is wrong. I sometimes feel that we do not give doctors enough credit. We expect them to know everything because hey, I am human just like everyone else, why cant you fix me? Aren't vitamins and natural meds.... still meds? So why are we living longer? Medical knowlege and medical advances. There is a lot of thinking and research that people really should do before diving into meds, but that is not to say that they are all bad for us. I found this good read if anyone is interested. I liked it. How We Died 200 Years Ago, Compared to How We Die Today
  3. I would say Colonel Sanders is pretty old. He died in 1980. If he were still alive it would make him about 123 years old. Now Pete Harmon on the other hand.... still alive.
  4. Vort, I am usually with you on your opinions. But it appears to me that your "calling out" that the idea that there were two plans presented is false...is itself... false. The website is temporarily down. There was most definitely two plans to chose from. Now was there a vote? Well, not a vote that would overthrow one plan or another. But did we make it known which plan we were choosing? Like placing a ballot? I think so, enough for it to be recorded In the end and get you thrown out with the rest of Satans followers. This is an argument that unless you think that the tide could have been turned in Lucifers favor by your decision, is really not that important. But I do see what you are saying.
  5. Not a long list, but 3 out of 4 were special. President Hinkley (a dozen times) Sister Hinkley Richard G Scott Steve Young ADDITION: Thurl Bailey - But if you live in Utah, who hasnt met him?
  6. Andre the Giant? You just gained 100 more respect points from me Vort.
  7. I have to say I 100% disagree with the suggestion that you avoid doctors. We all have anxiety to a certain degree. It is natural. But what was described by the OP sounds severe. I am not sure why receiving medicine for real problems is looked down upon so much. It shows no lack of faith. We have been blessed to have the medical advances available to us. Yes there are things one can do "naturally" but in cases where natural just doesnt cut it, there is no shame in having something prescribed.
  8. How can we ponder about how much meat we eat when we should be pondering about the media we watch in our own homes.... One persons mote, is anothers beam Smeagums.
  9. oooooh, look how awesome you are....
  10. So I must admit, I really feel joy when someone can write a piece without slamming the Mormons. Whether or not they agree with us is a different matter, but I love it when journalists are fair. This is a fair assessment of Mormon theology. Not very long, and a good read. Smart Mormons
  11. I wonder your opinion on this. Do you beleive that 1) there are not many that are trying to do this? 2) Do you beleive that if every single LDS person were to do as you suggested the outcome would also be as you suggested? Stop people from preaching hate against us...etc..? Granted, there are plenty of people that could get off their butts and do more... even LDS folk. But the feeling I get from your post is that we are all sitting around being cowards. And that if we stopped being cowards, the crazy lies will be held to a minimum. I am a little confused at your last sentence. So should we all be "wacky fanaticals" ??
  12. I think that it can feel like that a lot Traveler. However, we should have hope and remember that when someone dies that is not necessarily the end of their chance to repent or come unto Christ. Therefore our efforts could in the end help save a soul.
  13. A good story doesnt make sex charged scenes any less sexual. Me thinks that is a devils tool that most of us fall into from time to time. Reminds me of the seminary lesson of the donut with the dog poo on it. Will you simply eat around the poo for the good parts or would you throw it all out.
  14. This seems a prime expample of the rampant distructions that porn brings into a home. I have an observation, in your post you seem to hint that your wife shouldnt leave you. As you mentioned you left out a lot, but I think that the "a lot" that you left out has contributed to her actions. Fight for love, but respect her decisions. Place her in any other womans shoes and it most likely would have turned out similarly for them. At this time, although it may be alone (without your wife), should be used for you. Get your life back on track. Remember that you may feel that since you have already done X X and X that it may not matter that you continue doing those things that got you in this predicament. Focus on you and your problems. Best of luck to you. Stay strong.
  15. Good comments. Some have suggested they wouldnt/didnt ask about certain items in PPI's as they didnt want to pry. I wanted to add my $2.50 on that. Since the EQP has keys, regardless if it is uncomfortable (which it often is), the right to ask such questions if prompted by the spirit is yours as EQP. As EQP in official PPI interviews I would ask about personal prayer and scriptures all the time. I was also asked to let anyone know that wanted to confess that they were to seek the bishop out for repentance reasons, but that I could listen to them if they needed an ear. As with any calling, there is a lot of room for inspiration. The new manual allows for that. If you can get a point that your quorum sees you as a spiritual leader and not just the next guy who assigns lessons and collects data, that is what you want. I tried doing PPI's and HT interviews once a quarter and even that seemed a burden. We eventually moved to 2 times a year. Although I do get a call from my high priest group leader every quarter.
  16. Also they do not realize that the weight that gives them more stability will eventually lead to their demise when slowing down! I own a MAV (Mormon Assault Vehicle) but drive it like a car while in the snow!
  17. You mentioned that you feel mocked for returning early from a Mission. I do beleive you there. Unfortunately, other people are sent home for other reasons (ie fooling around etc..) but still use medical reason for being sent home, I have met a lot that have used that reason, because it is not embarrassing and they think they can still get places with girls and all. There are members that seem to be insensitive or dont care what the reason was, simply that you did not finish. I wish that this could be corrected, but is personal choice. Who cares if the girl seems beyond reach, let her decide that and go for the gold. Be yourself around her. If that is someone that clammers for something to say when you are around her, then be that person. If that person is someone who's grammar is terrible or who's Penmanship is atrocious, so be it. Now if those things are something you want to change, then change them, but do not become someone different, because you cannot be someone different forever. Just be you. Best of luck.
  18. With a good set of tires you can get by on 2wd, but 4wd is very helpful. Contrary to some posts... 1. 4wd will allow you to get up to speed faster and it does help you not to get stuck 2. It will NOT help you stop. That is one of the reasons people wreck. You may feel safer because you really do have more controll, but it is a false sense of security.

    No I Won't!

I cant say that we had it last from 9pm to 5am. That seems like there may be more going on. My wife and I used to play Uno in bed while waiting for the child to stop crying. It took a few weeks, but it worked okay for 3 out of 4 kids. Our first kid was terrible! he would get out of the crib, and cry at our door. I got him a toddler bed hoping he would be more excited and that backfired. I eventually started sleeping on his floor so he would sleep in his bed. I would never stay there the whole night. When I woke up I would crawl into my own bed. It was a nightmare. I wouldnt wish it on any other person.
  20. I think that the WOW provides a set guidline for us, but outside of those guildlines with the rest of the Lords doctrine, is very fluid and up for interpritation. For example, I know for a fact that if I drink sugary drinks I will pack on the pounds like no others buisiness. If I eat sugary treats however, I am okay. I really dont like treats anyway, I am a main course kind of guy. Outside of the set guidlines, we should learn what our body can take and can not take. If my body cannot handle dairy, but I continue to eat it, would that not be against the WOW? We know what makes us healthy. And by striving to live that way, I think we are striving to live the WOW.
  21. It just seems that your comments are negative (maybe a better word than derogatory) and combative. From what I remember about your other posts however. You can feel free to post how you like (within the rules) but just remember that others will do the same. I am not sure what the "hypocritical doctrine" you are referring to is. The doctrine is in the word of wisdom, the hypocritical part is upon us. Such as judging someone who appears overweight as unhealthy and breaking the WOW. Did you know that you can look overweight but still be as healthy as an oxe? Or you could look physically fit but be literally on the verge of a heart attack? Hypocrits come with life. But I know no doctrine that is hypocritical.
  22. I concur with those stating that if it is really bothering you, see your bishop. When in doubt, ask. For me, I hadnt felt the least of regret for kissing my gf (was soon to be wife) nice and long. But of course, that is where the temptation comes from right? And most people only feel comfortable kissing like that when alone or away from others, so yes, it is best to avoid the situation.
  23. It is a good thing our self worth isnt based on how much we make. The world sure would have us think that.
  24. Correct. Not an increase technically, but a lapse of the holliday. Remember the good times I suppose.
  25. The $100 per week is because of insurance?
