  1. I have tons of fun on Facebook. It's the main method of communication between me and my extended family. I'm also member of a bunch of groups and pages that indulges themselves in lightmindedness and loud laughter. I got a few supports group on there too.
  2. A missionary from Washington State has been murdered in Veracruz, Mexico, four days ago. He was found dead in a hammock at his apartment with a bag over his head, cord around his neck, and hands tied. His companion has apparently been arrested as the prime suspect. Mexican newspapers has published names and graphic images of the deceased, but I decided not to link to them. Victim's family has been notified according to a friend of mine who knows the victim's mother. Anyone heard in American news about this? What's going on? It seems like every week have another dead missionary in the news.
  3. There is some great books on the subject. I recommend the "History of God" by Karen Armstrong. The early Canaanites (which the Hebrews originally come from) was polytheistic and worshipped three main gods, El (the high god). Asherah (the mother), and Baal (the son). Later on El transformed to or replaced by Yahweh, a war god. The need for military success made the worship of the war god Yahweh more important to the Hebrews than the worship of Ashera and Baal (both fertility gods). This resulted in a polytheistic society becoming monotheistic.
  4. Making the civil rights of citizens of United States conditional to some subjective "benefit to society" analys is unacceptable. That's a scary slipperly slope path to places we don't want to go.
  5. I guess it all depends on whether or not church leaders can be influenced by internal or external pressures.
  6. There is a link to the recording of his own speech in the original post.

Excellent! I will use this excuse next time my daughter ask if we can go to Chuck E. Cheese.
  10. Posturing isn't the same thing as intent. Can you tell me a single benefit Russia would gain from becoming actively involved in the conflict with its military?
  11. I will not claim to be a expert in foreign diplomacy, but I do believe that it's not in their best interest to get involved with their military. They will gain more by loudly voicing their displeasure, sit back, and just observe the events unfolding.
  12. There is no way Russia and China will engage themselves military in this conflict. They might rattle some sabers for the sake of public opinion, but they will not engage.
  13. My opposite would be a bridge troll.
  14. Joseph Smith's lack of education is exaggerated. Yes, he only had 2-3 years of formal education, but he did not come from a family of uneducated ignoramuses. His father was a part-time teacher and they read a lot of books in the household. Home schooling is not a new concept. :)
  15. ... aint gonna take it anymore ...
  16. Waitin' on Joe.
  17. Four miniature schnauzers, two cats (tabby and calico), and one horse. All rescue animals adopted from local shelters.
  18. Looks a little on-sided, overly cheesy, and with a lot of platitudes. While the list claims to be for men, I suspect that the real target audience are women (who will send the list to their husbands). My marriage tip for men: Buy your wife a horse.
  19. A rape is a rape. Enough said.
  20. I apologize this is not a LDS video, but this sermon deeply resonates with me.

  22. 1. Using wifi service that is not password protected but is private like a residential network not intended for public use. - Temporary and very limited use okay. It's okay if you need to look something completely harmless up quickly and you can't do that through any other means. Anything more than that is not okay. 2. Taking in outside food and drink (that you've hidden or the usher said nothing) into a movie theatre that prohibits it. - Not okay. 3. Wearing perfectly good clothing and returning it afterwards because you can and they don't ask questions if you've got a receipt or kept tags on. - Not okay. 4. Using a handicapped stall in the restroom when you do not have any physical or mental disabilities. - Handicapped stalls in restrooms are NOT restricted to handicapped people only. 5. Saving places in line while waiting to be called in a first-come-first-serve setup. - Only if you are ACTUALLY there as a complete group (like going to the movie theater or amusement park together). Not okay to save a place in line for your friend to make sure he or she also gets the latest hot Christmas gift for their kids during the Black Friday sale. 7. Turning on and using your phone before the aeroplane has taxied and come to a complete stop. - Okay. I believe that most airlines do allow this nowadays. At least they did on my last flight. 8. When leaving, taking extra food out of a buffet restaurant for later. - Not okay to go to the buffet line to get more food with the intent to take it home. It's okay if you unintentionally had something left over on your plate. They will have to throw it away anyways so why not take it home? 9. Allowing your children to use first names for authority figures or elders, such as: teachers, parents or grandparents. - Okay. 10. Not spaying or neutering your family pet because puppies/kittens might be fun or you foresee making a quick buck by breeding. - NOT OKAY. DID I SAY NOT OKAY? ABSOLUTELY NOT OKAY.
  23. If I died tomorrow, I would like the following four songs to be played at my funeral: 1. 2. 3. (addressed to my daughter)4. (conclusion)
  24. I seriously doubt that.
