  1. Yay :) Did you make a journal entry for yourself to remember how you feel?
  2. Congrats to you both!
  3. I just thought I'd add that some questions that did not have suitable answers I left blank... and the survey went through.
  4. I think by far and away age has less to do with it than maturity... I have known 16 year olds who would be ready and 40 year olds who may never be. I think most people need at least a year living away from their parents before they are ready for marriage. I personally have no problem with people marrying at 18 years of age, but I think they will have a better chance of success if they wait until 20-21 or more. I was 24 when I found my beloved... she is a little older.
  5. Site a doctrinal source saying I need to listen to rush for my salvation and I'll consider it

  9. Since I can remember just how heated the mercury in vaccines discussion could get at times I hesitate to share my OPINION as requested because I feel like there will surely be attacks on it. I think NQP is on the right track. It is a multifactorial condition having a lot to do with inadequate abilities for the individual to deal with multiple stressors. One other factor that I have heard implicated is mercury crossing barriers into the fetus... low grade daily mercury leaching from dental fillings. Obviously mercury alone is not the sole cause, but it is a known poison that can cause a lot of trouble. Also mercury from fillings can distress the mothers intestinal flora which can mess up the balance required for proper immunity and gut health. When mom is struggling with gut health it isn't hard to imagine baby may too.
  10. Suzie is a gamer, I mean she is always starting activity threads as opposed to discussion threads. I've also gathered she loves her church history.
  11. Blasphemy Good thing only pleasant music exist in the Celestial Kingdom:D
  12. I had a mission companion who was convinced that Linkin Park was the most influential band of all time... by far and away more influential than the Beatles. I don't know why it was so hard for him to understand that no one would remember LP in a few years, but the Beatles will remain popular.
  13. I'm not disagreeing... I've never thought it about it that much, but if baptism is only required for cleansing in the case of children why was it still required of the Saviour to fulfill all righteousness?
  14. I saw this story earlier and thought it was absurd. Parents should have the ability to cut kids loose if the kids are no longer willing to abide by the rules of the household. The crazy thing is this girl seems to expect her parents should be paying her way for practically everything. I hope she loses every attempt, it would be horrible to set a legal precedence for this type of behaviour.
  15. Just a thought here - Being saved automatically in the Celestial Kingdom is not a guarantee at exaltation. There are three degrees within the Celestial Kingdom and only the highest is for the exalted. Just as being saved in general is no guarantee of Celestial Glory, Christ has saved all but the sons of perdition suggesting that all Kingdoms of glory represent a salvation.
  16. My favourite music is the kind that sounds good to me :) This excludes most country MOOsic, rap, modern pop, and anything I'm forced to listen to repetitively. I think most of the best music was created between 1960 and 1990. I have too many songs that I like to list them all, but too many of these songs also happen to come from bands that produce more ilk than good music so to say I like XYZ band would also be largely inaccurate.
  17. The way my mortal mind wraps around this is found in the intercessory prayer (john 17). Perhaps it is not obvious, and I may be incorrect in my understanding... but I don't think I am. The idea that God being a man once negates God creating the universe seems to miss out on an important aspect about the nature of God. In the intercessory prayer Jesus prays that His followers can be one with He and His Father. As opposed to being a hall of multiple Gods, we will become one with God if we are blessed with exaltation. While it is not explicitly stated, it is certainly implied, that God the Father himself has become one with God. In this way His being a man doesn't prevent the unified Gods (God) that was, is, and always will be from creating the universe. As for the other questions this brings up... I don't know the answers, nor is much known about the parents of God beyond the fact they do exist.
  18. I think parents can definitely shelter children too much. I wouldn't call it abuse either. I am glad for the opportunities I had to get into trouble as a kid when the consequences were less serious and I had (direct) family support. I think my parents did a pretty amazing job of letting go of the reigns a little at a time (at the right times) to let me learn from mistakes and become more independent. I had many friends who were far more restricted than I was and they were always the ones that were more likely to rebel (correlation is not causation... their parents may well have restricted them harshly because they hadn't shown they could be trusted) In any event I think it is a great disservice to put children in the position of utter shock when they get out into the adult world.
  19. I'm no expert by any stretch. My understanding is that the first presidency of the church oversaw the process of compiling revelations into the doctrine and covenants. Many of these were already found in the book of commandments which had been printed in small quantities two years previously due to the destruction of the printing press being used. During this process the prophet felt inspired to make changes to some of the revelations to ensure that they were more easily understood by the general public. I actually see merit to this and can accept it as valid for the following reason; the original revelations were specifically for certain individuals to help with specific challenges, be they personal, or pertaining to church administration and so forth. The precise wording given originally may well have been the best wording (or at least adequate) to help these individuals get the message they needed at the time. Upon the time of compiling the revelations into a volume for mass distribution it is logical that the Lord knew that certain points would need greater clarification and/or emphasis to convey meaning to a broad spectrum of people as opposed to the original recipient. This doesn't make the Lord a "changeable God," but it does make Him understanding of the needs of His people. On a cynical or faithless note it does appear to be convenient for the prophet to be allowed to make changes as he saw fit under the guise of "revelation," but also extremely smart of him to put himself in that position in the first place. Ultimately the question will come back down to whether or not JS is/was a prophet. If so than the changes are acceptable and sanctioned by the Lord. If not than both versions are fraud and it doesn't matter that changes were made. I understand how the changes can be troubling. I still believe. Through the Holy Ghost we may know the truth of all things, I wish you the best and pray you will get the answers you need.
  20. Hope its a great day.
  21. -20 and snowing steady. Spring weather
  22. Have you experienced this?
  23. It sounds like a trip to Hawaii is in order... Five-O!!
  24. Sorry if I started the thread too soon, I just a little note at the bottom of my screen notifying me it was your birthday and that no birthday thread had been started.
  25. One that I find interesting is the idea that being a mother somehow belittles women who should gladly give up being a mother to pursue roles outside the home that are supposedly superior. I had a coworker who was really upset by people who keep the Sabbath day holy. Some of the more fun swimming pools are owned by members who close them down on Sunday which drives her nuts because it is the day she wants to play. She contradicts herself in saying that it is stupid because they are losing lots of money not being open on Sunday, and that it is selfish of them not to do business when people want to.
