  1. How do you feel about labeling genetically modified organisms in the food supply and what are your main reasons?
  2. When conversations would get heated my wife's grandpa would always say this as a topic changer to help things cool down. So starting yet another alphabetic game lets name birds in sequential alphabetic order. A) Albatross
  3. A Birthday couldn't happen to a more like-able soul Have a great day!
  4. It's too bad you can't afford to get medical testing. The best case scenario is to work with a qualified health care professional. A lot can change with your hormones in 20 years. Even so, if you were on the low end of the reference range you could still be hypothyroid, the reference ranges for most hormones are considered by many experts to be too wide of a range. Ideally the following suggestion would be done in addition to lab tests to help narrow down your individual needs, but it can still be a somewhat useful tool as a stand alone as well. There are many who believe that the most accurate measure of your thyroid hormone status is your body temperature. It is thought that an ideal peak temperature of 98.6 degrees should be reached mid-afternoon. However it is usually more achievable to get a morning temperature. Morning temperatures are thought to be best right around 98 degrees when taken under the arm-pit over a ten minute period. Keep track of your temperatures daily as a habit for several weeks to see what kind of trends manifest. It is normal to have fluctuations up and down a little with your cycle. If your temperatures are consistently low you have a few options. First, if it is at all possible you could take this information to your Dr. and get your thyroid hormones checked again. If they are still in the normal range, but on the low end you might ask about a low dose desiccated thyroid prescription such as armor thyroid. Continue to monitor your temperature to see if the dose is right. If the Dr. thing really just can't happen you could also try a weaker thyroid glandular supplement (such as this) that has the actual thyroid hormones removed, but still has other factors that help to support an under-active thyroid. Once again continue to monitor your temperature to see if it's working, it will likely take a little while (week) before you notice a marked improvement. If this does not get your temperature in range do not exceed the suggested dosing. If you're feeling more energy even without an ideal temperature than it may be worth continuing to supplement, otherwise if the temperature and your energy don't improve I would discontinue using it. 5. Low energy can have multiple causes. It could be due to a struggling thyroid or adrenal glands, sleep deprivation and so on. while you might find some short-term success with some adaptogens such as ashwaghanda and rhodiola, long term you will likely have better success with a complete lifestyle over-haul. I'm partial to the nutritional ideas of Dr. Joel Fuhrman and would urge you to get into his books if you're really interested in learning more about picking up your energy levels. If the full lifestyle modification is just not your thing you might also try licorice root, vitamin C with bioflavanoids and a good multi with B complex. DO NOT take my word for any of this... look into adaptogens, adrenal fatigue, low thyroid, and dietary and lifestyle behaviours you can use to influence such things to learn and draw your own conclusions. I hope your energy perks up.
  6. I didn't feel a dissertation on various forms of judgment was necessary given the context of the discussion so far. It seemed to me it was apparent that the judgment being referred to was that judgment concerned with condemnation and company. Of course we need to judge between good and evil, every decision made requires a measure of judgment. As for the "ALL" about aspect of addiction I will have to respectfully disagree. It is about addiction. Satan loves addiction because it is practically a loss of agency. Over-eating, alcoholism, and pornography are addictions first and foremost. Yes over-eating involves food, alcoholism involves alcohol and pornography involves pornography, and yes they come from somewhere. Pornography almost assuredly becomes addictive because of the sexual aspect, but it is also entirely possible for individuals who are addicted to continue the activity even though it brings no perceivable enjoyment whatsoever, they may even lack libido completely but still turn to it, hating themselves for doing so and wondering why they persist when they don't even enjoy it. Going back to the food addiction; Yes it always involves food, but it doesn't follow that it always involves hunger. The same goes for pornography, it always involves pornography, but it doesn't always follow that it is about sex. In any event we need to be loving and understanding of everyone's weaknesses. This is not to say that we accept the sin, it is always wrong to sin, but we love and accept the sinner and seek to help them find a way out. The only lasting deliverance coming from God.
  7. While it is not our place to judge other's sins, we all have our weaknesses, it is our place to stand for truth and righteousness. The saviour taught that he that looketh on a women to lust after her has already committed adultery in his heart. If that isn't a lesson on the severity of pornography, well call me confused. Of course this warning also carries weight with fully clothed modest women as well as those who are just a mouse-click away, because it is based on how a man thinks within himself. I can agree that pornography is not always about sex, it can be like a comfort food is to someone on the diet rollercoaster... as it can bring a self-loathing and actually loses any pleasure or excitement that once existed it simply becomes some kind of misguided coping mechanism. I have doubts however that pornography use ever starts out having nothing to do with sex and lust. Boyhood curiosity is natural but it is satiable, but when boyhood curiosity has the propellant of lust added in it becomes insatiable; a dangerous combination. Just like alcoholics never know before they take the first drink if they will become alcoholics pornoholics are in the same boat, it is safest to simply not take that first drink or first glance and never find out if it is addictive to you.
  8. But you are self-admittedly strange... so your concept of normal must be abnormal
  9. the link doesn't go to a blog.
  10. Perhaps I still miss the point of what you're trying to say here. Are you suggesting it is better if we just move on after sinning as if nothing happened? I agree it is a problem when someone agonizes over sin endlessly, because when the atoning power of Christ heals them it is the end of it, but if the agony is not ceasing this can be a good impetus to seek out the atoning healing. Outside of the church people haven't made covenants of obedience and are less accountable, so moving on for them is more of an option, but even then if they choose to be baptized they will need to confront this.
  11. I too am sorry to hear about your dad, anatess. I agree with what you're saying that there is more to health than simply what you eat. However, it really is a pretty huge part. Most people can't do much to change the environment they live in more than to pick a certain neighbourhood, and use certain hygiene products and practices. On the other hand most adults do have the capacity to choose how they feed themselves. Why not take as much advantage of health factors you can control. A nutritionally dense diet has in many cases not only prevented, but actually reversed advanced conditions such as those mentioned above. The role of genetics gets overplayed. We all have genetic weaknesses that leave us more vulnerable to specific conditions, but when our bodies have the nutrients they need in abundance and are not bogged down with excess junk these genetic weaknesses do not get a chance to express. Genes do not predetermine outcomes, they can be switched on and off based on lifestyle choices. Sure genetic mutations and absenteeism can occur such as you might see with say down syndrome, but this is different than simply accepting that diabetes runs in my family so my turn is coming. Cancer is a nasty beast. It is far better to prevent it than to try to reverse it. It is lurking behind the scenes for years before it gets noticed. The average breast tumor has been growing for 10 years before it is the size of a pea. Your uncle does sound like a bit of an anomaly, a sort of George Burns type.
  12. Sometimes it works that way.
  13. Good effort. The response I was looking for is Ezekiel, the only one in the list classified as one of the major prophets of the OT, the others are minor.
  14. Somewhat this logic means no one can go to the temple because you're not supposed to wear garments before going through either. Obviously common sense dictates that there are times that this particular question is put into the individual respondent's context.
  15. Sounds like I am mistaken about the buying garments comment... my bad, sorry. Either way my primary advice is to talk to the bishop, that still stands.
  16. Did you try the report button next to multiquote? I'm not actually sure it helps though :)
  17. They always ask to see mine before they'll sell them when I go to the distribution center. I'm surprised if you don't need a recommend.
  18. I'd talk to the bishop. I expect if you can't buy them without a temple recommend that you probably shouldn't wear them until you have a temple recommend. Thus if you've been away and no longer have an up to date recommend, well, that takes us back to talking to the bishop. :)

Learn More: Recommended reading Joel Fuhrman M.D. Eat to Live The End of Dieting Super Immunity John Macdougall M.D A Challenging Second Opinion The Starch Solution Online quick articles Autoimmune conditions Cancer Heart disease Listen Various Topics My tiny summary: When our bodies are given nutrient foods that they need and not stuffed with an over-abundance of junk foods and nutrient scarce foods than superior health is the expected result. Nutritional density is most accurately assessed by looking at nutrients/calorie as opposed to nutrients/mass. The most nutrient dense foods are dark leafy vegetables, followed by other vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes. Processed foods are nutrient scarce and poor choices, while animal products should make up less than 10% to reduce the risk of many diseases associated with excessive animal consumption and to leave room in your daily intake for more nutrient dense foods.
  20. That's a tough one. On the one hand getting out of debt is plain awesome, and overall saves money because you pay less interest. Buying a home is also pretty awesome, but may be worth the wait. Almost everything I hear about the US economy is doom and gloom here in Canada. I hear about how everything is going to go belly up and inflation will be crazy. If this were to happen you'd be glad not to have inflated interest on your loans and mortgage. Prayer is going to give the best answer. All that being said I have heard numerous church leaders speak about getting out of debt, and never once have I heard home ownership pounded across the pulpit.
  21. What if there was a way of eating that was overwhelmingly supported by the current body of scientific literature and practical experience that reversed almost any disease and made it nearly impossible to get sick? Would you be willing to change the way you eat to reverse heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, asthma, and autoimmune conditions? How about reducing allergies and possibly eliminating them and preventing cancer. Would you be excited to listen to people who claim to have been cured of lupus, eczema, psoriasis, Multiple Sclerosis and more by changing the way they eat? Would it improve your opinion at all if I mentioned it also seems in harmony with the word of wisdom? I know I'm pretty excited.

  23. I don't know, it always seemed to me like my friends of other faiths loved it too!
