  1. Well, there are two reasons I can think of: 1. It’s not always possible to bring food you make at home. 2. Sometimes, you’re just in the mood for a greasy cheeseburger.
  2. Oddly enough, I’m sitting in the IAH airport as I’m reading this. Should I be concerned?
  3. That’s true. A few years ago, my wife and I bought some Play-Doh for our oldest daughter on her birthday. When I opened up the can, the smell emanating from that can transported me back to my days in kindergarten. It smelled like childhood.
  4. I did the same. I loved playing with GI Joes. Like you, I would spend hours having them embark on clandestine operations and engage in heroic battles. Don’t forget though, “Knowing is half the battle.”
  5. Other than my interest in fine watches, I don’t care. I don’t consider it any of my business what kind of watch he wears, car he drives, or house he lives in.
  6. “High-end” doesn’t necessarily refer to vanity over function, but I can see how one might interpret it that way. In the context of my post, I thought it was implied that pilots would purchase them for reasons of functionality. However, what I actually said was that it is common for pilots to buy “high-end” watches. Brietling would be considered a “high-end” watch just as Rolex and Omega are considered “high-end.” Pilots also use Rolex and Omega. Ergo, it is common for pilots to use “high-end” watches.
  7. Yes, well, that was sort of my point.
  8. High-end watches are common for pilots. That’s probably why Utchdorf sports a Breitling.
  9. Is this an actual 'Christmas Party' or a 'Ward Christmas Breakfast'? It seems like the traditional Ward Christmas Party with Christmas dinner is a dying thing.
  10. "Praise to the Man" was one of my dad's favorite hymns. We even sang it at his funeral.
  11. If that's true, why do you think that is? My guess would be, at least in part, because of statements like this, " Good luck with that. The UK government won't move forward on Brexit, what makes you think they'll listen to the people this time?" While it may be likely that the UK government will not listen to the people, history has shown that stranger and more unexpected things have happened. However, history has also shown that just shrugging one's shoulders and saying, "What's the point? They're not going to listen to me" is definitely not going to change anything. Whether or not it's a battle that is known to be lost before it begins, some fights are just worth fighting for.
  12. People used to say the same thing about the Berlin Wall coming down.
  13. The thread title reminded me of this poignant moment in TV history:
  14. The difference is that if I were to walk into a Starbucks, I am certain that the Holy Ghost would still be with me (assuming I don't order any coffee). However, I can guarantee you that if I were to walk into a strip club, I would lose the companionship of the Holy Ghost as soon as I pulled into the parking lot, even if my only intention was to have a good meal. Strip clubs attract evil. There is absolutely nothing good or righteous about them. They are a prime example of the den of iniquity. I would also venture a guess that in places like strip clubs, there are plenty of additional things going on that would drive away the spirit. It is a spiritually dangerous place, and, quite often, physically dangerous, as well. Not a place where the Holy Spirit is going to dwell. Even if someone claims they are just going to have a good meal, they are still willingly putting themselves at great risk of temptation and spiritual danger. Even if one didn't plan to look, how would one accomplish that? Eat with their eyes closed? Stare at the floor? Starbucks, on the other hand, is not dangerous. As others have already mentioned, you can enjoy other things there without the risk of accidentally violating the Word of Wisdom or anything else that might cause one to lose their Temple Recommend. It is a place I would feel comfortable taking my kids. Strip clubs, on the other hand? Obviously, no.
  15. @Vort said that people from NYC tend to think they are smarter than everyone else. You said that they were the financial capital of the world, having the best and brightest. My point is that while NYC may have people who are skilled at various jobs, does not necessarily mean that they are good at anything else. It certainly doesn't mean that they are wiser than anyone else, or even wise at all. The fact that they lead the way in culture really has nothing to do with my point.
  16. NYC might have some of the best and brightest when it comes to crunching numbers and analyzing financial reports, but not necessarily the best and brightest or wisest when it comes to anything else.
  17. I told my wife that when I die, to just stuff me in a Hefty bag and leave me outside by the curb.
  18. I'm not quite sure I understand. You're saying that the implication is that men have a choice to wear something other than pants? Like what?
  19. Actually, it's not an unspoken cultural standard. As stated in the manual, "The Gospel of Jesus Christ": "Dress: Men and boys generally wear suits or nice pants with a shirt and tie. Women and girls wear dresses or skirts." Source: “Worship with Us,” The Gospel of Jesus Christ (2005), 22–23 https://www.lds.org/manual/the-gospel/worship-with-us?lang=eng&query=dress+standards+at+church
  20. Well, that explains it. I never heard of them until I started 7th grade in 1993. I stand corrected.
